A few products from this review were sent to me by Banggood for testing.
This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself.
I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that Banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews. I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion!
On this, you can count on!
I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

Thanks Dennis I’m a retired Woodworker with 25 plus years as a Professional and more than 35 as a hobbyist , there was a period that Chinese tools were pretty terrible but in the last 20 years or so China has stepped up on quality and ability I like your channel because you are taking out the guessing game on which products are worth buying with a minimum risk of my money please continue posting your videos
I'm a novice wood worker and wood working tools can get quite expensive. Thanks for your reviews, they really help.
Thanks for putting all this effort into the reviews, I really enjoy them! Enjoy the holidays and time with your family, hope to see you again next year :)
Thanks for sharing! It's great to know that there are more affordable alternatives out there.
Loved watching your China tool series Dennis. Fantastic quality reviews. Look forward to seeing you next year.
Season's greetings to you and your family.
You put in a lot of work to your channel.. thanks I really appreciate your contributions
I agree the Kreg hinge jig works very well easy to configure for different hinge sets ups. I think the Kreg is a better buy for us in the USA.
Dennis your China Tools series is outstanding I really like your evaluation of these tools.
Thanks, I agree on your comment.
Love the cabinet you made for your shop 👍👍👍
Great series of video reviews keep them coming in the new year stay safe.
thanks
Excellent review as always. Thank you!
Hi Dennis, you are one of the best youtubers. Your video's are very well thought out as well as well done.
Thanks again for a nice review Dennis. Can’t wait till next year for more reviews
Thank you so much Dennis please stay safe and have a wonderful holiday season cheers from Sackville NB🇨🇦
Hi Kate, Thanks for your comment. All the best for you!
Another great review. I like the analytical level our go to. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I wish you also a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I am a hobbyist but spent the extra on the keg jig kit with the clamps included and glad I did as it gives great results and is flexible. I will be making a mounting board like yours Dennis as I like how you included the dust extraction pipe in the design. Great channel and great reviews.
You sir are a true professional. Thanks for sharing all this information with us. I have bought some stuff on Banggood based on your reviews. Thanks again and greetings from Portugal.
Your tests and comparatives are of an extraordinary precision and thoroughness for a CZcamsr; or even for a professional company, for that matter.
They’re also very useful for us, hobbyist diyers.
Thanks a lot 👍🏼
P.S. I would love to see a video about that cabinet you show at the end. Looks like an awesome job.
Really thorough review. I appreciate the time you take to cover everything, especially for me, not "a heavy user. "
Thanks Rick, glad you say that, because sometimes it is difficult to draw a line, at what point you begin. So, I have in mind that non heavy users are watching. And I am glad to get your feedback. Thanks
That pocket hole is what I own. And I set it up with a toggle clamp like you showed.
Another great video Denis, thanks for the excellent review
Great stuff there, dude! Awesome review! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hi thanks for sharing your video. A interesting tools. Wish a happy festive season and stay safe.
Awesome and thorough review. Subscribed. Thanks.
Hi Dennis! Great video, again. I’m not in need of both products (yet) but your coverages all always interesting and educational. I’m sorry to hear it is the last episode of the year but appreciate the fact that we are in that time of the year. Many thanks, keep on the good work and looking forward to the next video.
Many thank, __Frank
Very nice cabinet! Good job!
Hoi Dennis,
Thank you for your series of China Tools video's. I find them very interesting. Not everything which comes from china is crap :).
Please come back in the new year with some new content from your workshop. I realy enjoy watching your video's. Because the explanations are calm and detailed. For you and your familie also an early merry christmas and an happy new year!
Groetjes uit Duitsland

Denis another well presented and informative ChinaTools. Thank you and wishing you Vrolijk Kerstfeest and a prosperous and healthy 2021
Thanks, all the best for you too!
thank you very much again Dennis, I will get this pocket hole, hope there is some good deal on older recommanded tools, take care
Thanks Greg.
@@HookedonWood what size of pocket hole screws to do you recommand to buy? for standard cabinetry, I see you use 25mm, is that's for usually 18/20 mm sheets? is there a rule of thumb for size? do you have a coupon code this time? thank you again
Well done sir!
As always, a GREAT video. Dennis is one of THE best DIY'rs teacher there is. Thanks kind Sir. May Jesus bless you and yours always dear friend.
Again a nice and good review, it reminded me to take a look at the curve maker if the price was a under 20€ and finally, 39% of at the moment for 18.59€.
I ordered me one tonight and hope i will get it soon and looking forward to try it out. Already have some ideas to start with to try it.
Great video, explained very well and sympathetically. Happy Holidays and greetings from Germany!
Thanks Headley! Happy Holidays
Very nice review. I've been using my Kreg Jig for about 6 years now. Nice to know about the wear on the unit. You have a museum quality shop. I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I so hoped you have a video on the cabinet, it is quite beautiful
Good day Dennis. After about one year of following you and actually purchasing a few of your recommended items I can say that the professionalism and attention to detail has not diminished one iota. All of your reviews seem to genuinely be honest and not market driven. Your delivery /video editing etc is Hollywood class. Just a perfect informative woodworking site. So happy to have bumped into you on the web. Have a wonderful and safe holiday season and hope that you continue with the China series

Hey Michael, Nice to hear from you again. I thought I lost you😀. Always nice to hear from you and thank you for your comments. You followed me almost from the beginning and working at these videos take some time. I have a bad habit that I want to improve myself every time and sometimes that is a bit annoying and time consuming. But the comments like yours, now and in the past, have always be a motivation for me. SO, thanks for that. I hope to see you next year again. All the best for you and your family. Dennis
Nice video, Dennis! And a very beautyful cabinet! Happy Christmas from Austria!
Thanks Joefein, Happy Christmas, we see each other next year
I have just looked on the Ali Express site for the pocket hole jig and see they have already changed the screw knob to the lever clamp similar to Kreg's. They must have watched your video. Thanks for sharing.
Dennis, nice looking cabinet. I would add felt to the top of the shelves only because I’ve lived in high humidity climates (Alaska rain forest and Texas). The felt eliminates rust on the soles of my hand planes. I also built an msg cover for my table saw and drill press and glues felt on the bottom of the cover between the cover. This protects and eliminates having to wax my tabletop as often. On the table saw the cover doubles as a layout/glue up table.
Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Dennis for this review, excellent as usual :). Btw, you could buy replacement bushing for that orange pockethole jig. If size is the same, Foreman Micro-Pocket™ Drill Bit with Drill Guide or some cheaper models, and fix them with a screw from outside
Merry Christmas to you and happy new year
Thanks mervyn. Appreciated.
I've used the kreg hinge jig before which is quite good.
@William Emory tasty spam
Good job with these reviews, cheers from Australia =)

Prettige feestdagen alvast!
Happy New Year Dennis! Thank you kindly for all your Excellent videos.......Bligh-me.....I’ve spent near on £300 on China tools in 5 less than five days, but hey-ho. Cheers from Devon, England
Have fun with your tools!
hi hooked on wood , great reviews. i purchase the new yomo pocket hole jig which has a toggle clamp .but alas i dont think the people at yomo have thought it out, as the throw of the clamp is 25mm, the rubber end is 12mm, and you have a possible adjustment via screw thread of 12mm ..so the clamp will only clamp from 0-19mm of timber, making the jig near useless .unless you buy another clamping mechanism, and mount to a board as you have .just a warning to everyone if you want the full range of clamping of the yomo clamp you reviewed with the thumb screw clamping mechanism is the better one allowing you full range 0-50mm and in my mind the better option
Good that you mention that. I find the clamping of the Yomo OK, but the end Is too clumsy. I do not think a toggle clamp is a right clamp on such a device. But as you say, if it only goes from 0-19mm there is some lack of thinking. The problem I have with the clamp is, that it can damage the wood. But you can fix that by putting a wooden end on it. Or something else.
Excellent reviews Denis as per usual.. You should start up a new series in the new year... Dollar / euro / pound store reviews..
What about fitting the hinge plates? It's a different position for inset doors than for overlay doors. This is just for the main pocket which you could do with your drill press and a bit of wood used as a fence. It would also mak the process much, much quicker.
Thanks a lot, haphy holy days
Haha I was NOT ready for that electrical sound...
Sorry David. :-)
Good evening Dennis, i have to agree i also dont like the clamp system of the new jig. I bought a jig similar to the orange one online made completely from steel. Also it has steel L shaped bracing on each side so when you clamp there is absolutely no deflection as in your orange one and the kreg. Thank you for all your hard work during the year, i really like your new display cabinet. Please have a great Christmas and a very happy new year. Ps i would make more cabinets if i had a decent table saw. Mine very widdle
Hi, thanks for your comment. We see each other next year.
"I could not explain it better myself" LOL
Lol good one
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Typo al Dutch expression 😊 you should hear about it “when the cows come home”. Mooie video weer Dennis. 👍🏼groetjes uit Limburg.
This is a brilliant series! I saw one of the earlier episodes and then went back and watched all the others. Thanks Dennis! Subscribed.
Regarding the orange pocket hole jig. Could it be improved by replacing the inserts with good hardened steel? An idea for a future video perhaps?
Wishing you and your family all the best for the new year.
Thanks Peter,
I do not know, I would not recommend this product. I think they cut to many corners. I used the drill bit today of the orange pocket hole jig and that was also not nice balanced and I do not like that they put so thin bushings in it.
Then I would look to other pocket hole jigs.
@@HookedonWood Ah well It was just a thought. See you next year!
Thanks for some great videos, I've been watching the back catalogue over the last week after finding you by chance and free plans on the web site as well . I look forward to some videos on your new workshop toys from Hammer ,Santa did come early . Have a great festive season from here in the UK .
Thanks Nicholas, Same for you! Oh and Yes Santa did come early and boy, I think I have done something very good this year looking at his gifts :-)
Gotta agree with some of the guys on this one. Kreg concealed hinge jig is the better tool for this job. Keep up the good work Dennis.
I can understand. You can do more with the Kreg, but I found this one stable. But I think both are good
Dennis thank you, Dennis just a FYI I found the black MDF in the USA , Trinity Innovations CA. has it but shipping is very expensive and Sierra Forest products Chicago, also expensive shipping.
DM lumber in Brooklyn, NY also has it by bulk in every size and color.
Thanks James, I ad this info to my site.
I have that drill press, can I ask where you got the chuck from
3D print a plastic plug to go on the clamp to make it more like the kreg clamp?
HI Dennis,
again a super high quality review! Thanks for that! :)
Maybe you could use one of your next episodes to talk about Hand Plains? I don't think I would be using it a whole lot, so a good price / quality ratio is making me wonder if this could be something to source from China as well...
All the best to you and your Family and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too! :)
I keep it in mind Seipp. Alle the best for your family.
Would you please let me know the name of the tool you used at 4:29. You use it to punch a spot before you start to drill.
Thank you for this. I have a kreg R3 I've had for years. It's not fine woodworking but when I need to assemble something temporarily or build a quick jig...I was thinking of getting one of these to try, with the integral clamp for building a big laminating table (boat building). I was wondering if my kreg screws would fit in the smaller holes. The square drive screws work much better than phillips etc and if you shop around you can get them cheap, typically about 5-6c each in australia for 1" for example.
Yes, thew will fit. I did not test it on every wood, but on MDF, Ply, oak it was not a problem.
The Yomo MD21 has had an update where they've improved the clamp. It's a quick clamp instead of the threaded clamp now. Greetings from the backcorner!
Yes, but be aware of the reach of this clamp. I heard that is very limited. Did not have the possibility to check myself.
Thanks for the video. Banggod got a new customer. In the video you show the set up with the pocket hole jig with a clamp, very similar to the Kreg clamp. Could you give me the reference for this clamp? Thanks again.
Anytime I see a metal screw clamp like the one on the hinge jig I get worried about it making a mark on the face side of the door. I would highly recommend some kind of sacrificial wood to avoid marring the piece
I agree!, that you can clamp it by screwing it is what i like. But it feels not to good. So, perhaps you are right with a sacrificial piece
I’m trying to find a woodworking compass any suggestions?
Well done. I'm so early I've even beaten the buy USA guy.
😀 😃 😄 😁
I found your channel by accident today and have been watching about 10 episodes of China Tools. I love your reviews. They are comprehensive and very well presented. Thank you. I have subscribed and will be using your channel to make my purchases.
My question though is about your black MDF. it seems different than the MDF I am accustomed to here in the USA. It appears to mill differently and looks like it is more sturdy. It sure is beautiful though. Have you done a review on it?
Of course as soon as I wrote this I went to your website and found the answer to the MDF question.
Lol. Thanks again.
Thanks Kenny, I did not reviewed the Black MDF. But I sure like it.
I love you China Tools videos! Why don't you make and post 2 per day. I am kidding lol.
Whose Router Plate or Lift Plate is that in your table top?
How about reviewing forstner bits.
Enjoyed all the reviews, just finished binge watching all of them.
I will keep it in mind.
KregJig also lets you drill the mounting screw pilot holes with the same setup. Big pain to have to try and align the hinge and mark the holes again. That would drop the score to at least a (3) for me.
That is OK, Kreg needs extra clamps to attached them. So it cost a lot more if you do not have clamps. But it is difficult to give score to everything. Important is, that I can show it in a way, you can see it it is something worth buying.
The Kreg pockethole screws also exist with a Torx head, although they're not made by Kreg.
Torx being more standard and stronger than the (square) Robertson's screw heads I would recommend Torx.
Warning: the pockethole screws sold by Axminster have a larger head diameter and don't fit in the holes made with the Kreg jig.
Top, good that you mention that.
Cool
I remember you showing a switched magnetic block a while ago & I can't find it on the banggood site -do you have the description please?
Hi Richard,
If you look at my site hookedonwood.online/China-Tools-Ranking/ you see the magnetic block at the 4.5 star ranking. I checked the link and it works.
Good luck!
Dennis
@@HookedonWood Thanks so much Dennis, much appreciated
I went to see (again) your previous videos having in mind to find some good opportunity for Black Friday. I was susprised to find that most of the items I was interested in are on sale today at a higher price and at a moderate shipping icost (s no more free shipping..).
Be sure that you select shipment from China. With some products you can choose the warehouse countries. You find this under the price. Select CN. Maybe that is the problem
If you regularly browse through the Banggood or Alixpress products you should have noticed that over the last two or three years prices have risen and free shipping is rare. I think that that could be expected, I am not surprised. Also, most of the discounts that they show on the product are always three. There still differences but are becoming thinner
Hi, thank you for another very useful video. Could you tell me, please, how does the material(black) called which you used as the top of your table and you used in this video as a sample.
Thanks.
Looks like Valchromat ?
Goede filmpjes, Dennis.
Thorough review (and I agree on that clamp.... kinda ruins the look of the pocket-hole jig - though it might clamp properly).
Just for reference: what jig would you recommend for 'professional' pocket-holing? (as you mentioned that the Kreg one wears out similarly, after about 100 holes (yet, is plastic, not aluminium))?
Are you going to do a video on the new tools-cabinet? It looks very solid and smooth - great job! (what is black MDF - they now offer colored MDF?). Wishing you a nice holiday!
Hi Ibu,
Good you point that out. No, the kreg I have for 4 years or so and that does not really wear out, but has this bit of play. I think they all do have a bit of play and think 1-1,5mm is acceptabel for most users. The pocket hole jig I tested had this same play but it stabilized. Of course I do not know for the long term, but I think the bushings are pretty good. If you compare it with the smaller Kreg systems, they have also only the bushing and than it is plastic. The K4 and 5 have fully hardened steel support for the drill bit.
Kreg has an industrial line from which I think is for the professional market. The Kreg Foreman is something I look for at the moment. Not that I use it, that much, but it is very handy and I think I can integrate it in a nice and practical way in one of my benches and than it is easy to work with with bigger panels.
If I make another Tool cabinet, I will make a video about it.
The Black MDF is indeed Full colored mdf.
Thanks for your comment, Dennis
@@HookedonWood Thanks Dennis - Kreg seems to be a good investment then as they will last - yet, tbh, they are not cheap...
Had no idea about the 'new' (well....) MDF options - not only colored, but also 'faux wood' print etc. Thanks for the (indirect) pointer to that as it is great material to work with.
I'm sure you've been asked before but where did you get the small hole marking punch you use ?
Great videos by the way !
Hi Richard, I have it from Banggood. www.banggood.com/custlink/K33RW0lQee
I would advice the one with the plastic knob. That is easier. I am very happy with it, but I have my second one on this moment. The last one took about 8/9 months. I do not think they will last a lifetime, but I prefer them definitely over an ordinary center punch. It works quicker and easier.
@@HookedonWood thanks for the speedy reply Dennis, it’s in the basket !
Again a great vid 👍. What is the square you are using at 3:44 ?
Hi, That is a woodpeckers square
Did you replace your Bosch drill press for the Jet? If so we're you unhappy with the Bosch?
Hi Craig, yes. I still think the Bosch is nice, but you can not compare those products.
Beste Hooked on wood,
Hello Dennis. Can you please tel me where you buy T rail for you're workbench.
The T-rail in the video is from INCRA. But in my former workbench I had it from Banggood. I choose for INCRA this time because of the color. It is more expansive. Quality is the same.
What is the difference between green makita drill and black one behind you?
Hi Sajjad, The green one is a lighter one. I like to have two drilling machines, one for drilling and one for screwing. This way you do not have to change your drill bit with a screwdriver bit.
Hi Dennis, just loving your videos and reviews, I have only just discovered your channel having retired recently (Oct 2020) at the age of 61 and with lots more time on my hands. Having been a fanatical all round DIY'er for over 40 years I have struggled with cheap tools and little time, fitting things in around a full time job, three children and little spare cash. Now having a lot more time and slightly more disposable cash I hope to build my ultimate workshop inspired by yours, your reviews and projects.
I was about to purchase the Drillpro Pocket Hole Jig, as it was only half the price of the UJK POCKET HOLE JIG from Axminster Tools but I realise now that its probably going to give me issues in a fairly short period of time so cost me more in the long run.
Have you had any experience of the UJK POCKET HOLE JIG ??
Keep up the good work and I am working my way through all your videos and hope to build MY ultimate Workbench based on yours :-), thanks.
Hi Colin, No, I do not have experience with them. But if you want spend the money, I would consider Kreg.
@@HookedonWood Dennis, many thanks for the quick reply, I thought I had made my mind up but just seen the new Kreg 720 Pro which is being released on the 15th Feb (There is also a 520 Version) not sure when it will be available here in the UK or how much it is going to cost over here, but wow what a machine. I haven't used Pocket Holes before but this tool looks amazing just hope the price of either model isn't out of my reach will wait a couple of weeks to see what happens :-) czcams.com/video/J4jjx1iICpE/video.html
This is a well made Tool but the Drill has just 9mm . Any idea where i can find that size here in Europe? My drill is broken and everybody is selling the Kreg standard 9,5 mm drill which is too big for this tool. 😢
I believe the smaller systems of kreg use 9mm holes.

Nice reviews, guess it'll help to put some more precise in the title (to deliver better search results?). Right?
I think your right, but I do not know how the algorithm works exactly. I believe no one does.
what the screw driver bit used with the cordrless driver?
That is not that special, I bought it in my local Home Depot. It is from KWB. www.kwb.eu/nl/
