    A few products from this review were sent to me by Banggood for testing.
    This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself.
    I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that Banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews. I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion!
    On this, you can count on!
    I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

  • @indetailcarcaresolutions3770

    I’ve just bumped into your channel as a recommendation on YT. This is an excellent review of two products I would use often. The layout for the grid can be produced more efficiently if you use the mirror tool in your software. This way they laser cutter is not tracing each line twice. All you do is draw a line at the edge of your page. Select the line and the mirror tool. Set the distance away from the line you want your new line, in this case 10 mm, and action. Repeat by selecting the new line and then clicking. This works in AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator, but in slightly differing ways so you need to check with the software you are using. You will probably find that it should halve the time it takes the laser cutter to create the grid. Lloyd

    Hi, thanks for the video. Not sure if something has changed with the hold down clamps but when I purchased these from the link in the description I received clamps with a shaft just over 20mm. Unfortunately I can't use them in my MFT top. I purchased the 20mm ones assuming they would be for 20mm holes. Hopefully this hasn't happened to anyone else but it might be something for everyone to watch out for.

    I seen those clamps on bangood the other day. I'm really happy you made this video and gave them a review, they both seem like a great buy.
    If I made a square with a 20mm hole in the center do you think this will help the black clamp on thinner tops?

  • @cathalwhelehan
    @cathalwhelehan Před 2 lety

    really enjoyed this video (and, again, the really high quality of the review - so well thought out and comprehensive!).
    The Ganwei clamps are what interests me most and I would love to get some but my bench (a Sjöbergs Elite model) has 1 inch dog holes and the clamps only come in 19mm/20mm versions - which seems to apply for virtually ALL hold down systems. Is there some kind of adapter I can purchase so that I can increase the clamp post diameter from 20mm to 25.4mm (or, respectively, to reduce the dog hole dimension from 25.4mm to 20mm)?

  • @ThisDesignedThat

    I bought a pair of these and will be sending them back as they are poorly designed. Im surprised there was no mention that the clamp lever makes metal on metal contact and the anodized surface is scuffed off on first use.

  • @brucelee3388
    @brucelee3388 Před 2 lety +4

    The second clamp appears to be a re-design/copy of the Kreg 'In Line' clamp, which is around half the price. The Kreg clamp is made from GRP - glass reinforced plastic - the same sort of stuff they make Glock pistol frames from. I also note that Bang Good (or at least their suppliers) are being affected by the current power problems in China - I ordered 4 items on September 8th, all claimed to be ready for immediate shipping. So far only one item is listed as being at the warehouse, but at least they emailed me after 3 weeks to say they were waiting for stock. That's up there with Amazon.

    Dank je wel voor je grondige review. Wat ik gaaf aan de Ganwei Hold-Down klem vind, is het verende gedeelte waardoor er mooi vlak, en zonder zijdelingse beweging aangedrukt wordt. Je zorgen over het rasp effect in het gat deel ik ook. Voor zo`n blad met gaten geld dat de boven en onderzijde belast worden en in het midden niet. Omdat de as in het gat gekanteld wordt, komt er enorme vlaktedruk op de helft van de boven rand en de onderrand. De karteltjes op de as maken dit nog erger.

  • @blake102989
    @blake102989 Před 2 lety

    I've got one similar to the Hongdui clamp that is made by Kregg but it is all plastic. It actually works very well, I use it to hold stock on my Shapeoko CNC. The aluminum one here is much more appealing especially since its double sided compared to 1 with the Kregg. Although the Kregg is only about $20 here in the U.S. compared to $55.99 currently for the Hongdui. I'd like to have one to be able to compare in person before I could justify buying at least 2 if not 4 that I'd need and that would cost me over double of the other. They lookl amazing though!

    @michaelblackmore883 Před rokem

    I ordered 4 of these hold down clamps after watching your review. Three were a little tight but just OK but the 4th was too tight to be useable. I have contacted Banggood several times about a replacement but have had no response. It's a pity as the concept is very good but the execution falls short. This type of device does require very accurate machining as tolerances in the 20mm holes are tight. Even after reaming out my holes with the Axminster 20mm reamer the worst was still to tight to use.
    In the end I gave up on Banggood customer services and rubbed down the posts with coarse alox paper until they were an easy fit. OK now.

    Hi Dennis, just found & subscribed to your excellent channel. I liked the review on the parallel guide system, but I did not like the idea of having to add 200mm I think you said, also one or two other things. The wood pecker is the one I like, but the price is way over the top, when you include delivery to Thailand. So I think I will go for the Bench Dog UK version, unless the one you reviewed is improved in the near future. One thing i'm looking for is a adjustable Shelf drilling jig, like the Veritas or the one from Woodpecker. Do you know of any from China. Keep up the excellent reviews

    I just received a pair of the 20mm "Ganwei" clamps, but the posts are oversized - I'm getting 20.09mm on my calipers. [my UJK dogs fit very snuggly and are 19.96mm]. The products I received look identical to those in the video, down to the packaging, but there is no brand name on my clamps, nor is there in the BG site listing, however the box says they are "Fonson". Also, these shipped from the US warehouse in CA, I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue.

      With an UJK parf guide system it can. It is almost cnc like. I think 80% of my holes are accurate. This has more to do with human error. The deviation of that 20% is very small and probably within a 10th of a mm

    What is the black composite material you are using for your bench tops and kapex insert? Looks like a black colored MDF, but not something I’ve seen in my local stores in the lumber aisles. Thanks in advance and great videos. 👍🏼

    Love this series. Do you happen to know if there are any similar quality tools in imperial measurements? I know this episode is about Dog Hole Clamps. I'm obviously referring to the T ruler and other measuring devices in some of the earlier episodes. I've not yet converted all of my shop to Metric, and not sure it will ever really be feasible to do so since so many of the items we buy in the USA are based on Imperial measurements.

      @HookedonWood  Před 2 lety

      Yes, some products including T-rulers are also imperial versions. But I agree the majority is metric.

    Strange enough the hole in my workbench are much smaller: 16mm. Is that common?
    Are there any holders available for that size that anyone knows of?

    Dank je wel Dennis. I want to build a new (folding) workbench and use your videos for inspiration. To bad these horizontal clamps are not as good as i hoped. But maybe banggood has some good ones, i didnt like the previous ones because of the lifting...

    Dear Dennis I love your videos, you are an ingenious guy. You often ask for suggestions about product’s to review. Here is my suggestion and advise for your tools review, earring protection like the 3M or the ISOtunes protection. Also lungs protection like dust masks. I know you have a top notch dust collection system but your ears are taking a beating each time you use your tools. Just think about not earring your boy or ore realistically our 20 years from now, your grand kids. Any way, wonderful videos. Sorry about the language english is my secondary language. Take care and thank you!

      Zijn er dan andere lezers die je er op kan zetten en die wel sterk genoeg zijn om 3mm materiaal te snijden.

      Ze hebben geloof ik 1 type krachtiger, maar dan zou ik toch kijken of er andere merken zijn met een krachtige laser.
      Wanneer je echt veel gaat snijden is het ook beter om er een te nemen waar ook accessoires bij zitten of bij kunnen om bijvoorbeeld lucht toe te voegen zodat er minder verbranding komt tijdens het snijden. ik hoor goede ervaringen met Orthur, maar heb er zelf geen ervaring mee. www.banggood.com/ORTUR-Laser-Master-2-Pro-20W-Laser-Engraving-Cutting-Machine-Cutter-400-x-430mm-Large-Engraving-Area-Fast-Speed-High-Precision-Laser-Engraver-p-1870390.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjf2X0uek8wIVGJftCh2U9AewEAAYASAAEgIhN_D_BwE&cur_warehouse=CN

    Dear Dennis,
    how thick table top should I need for efficient functioning? I read some reviews about weak clamping force. Could it be in connection with the thickness of the table top?
    Thanks for your response,

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před rokem

      For these clamps I would advise 30-40mm. They significantly increase in clamping force with thicker table tops. But they still perform ok with table tops of 18mm.

    Do you have to pay other fees than VAT when purchasing from China after July 1st? I’m in Denmark and my China tool obsession era is over, because here the national post service sends you a +25$ bill with the choice of paying it to receive the order (even if the order was only fx 5$), or decline and lose the purchase.
    Before July 1st we had a VAT and fee-free max limit of about 12$ but that limit is gone now.

    Hi Dennis, it strikes me that if the lever on that dog hole clamp worked the other way around, that is pushing it backwards to clamp down, then the lever would be more out of the way of the user when using. I think that would be a definite improvement in design. (I did leave them the suggestion on their website)

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 2 lety

      Interesting. But did not have problems yet. This feels sort of "normal" but perhaps when the make it the other way around it feels like how it supposed to be.
