    A few products from this review were sent to me by Banggood for testing.
    This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself.
    I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that Banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews. I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion!
    On this, you can count on!
    I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

    Grabbed both the 90 and 45 engineers squares after your review. Easily the most beneficial and used tools in my workshop. I verify almost everything with them. The wide, flat base makes blade alignment effortless. I use these to verify any new tools I bring into my shop. As always, thank you for your honest opinion. I will continue to use your knowledge and experience to make my shop and projects better.

    Wow! I didn't know this channel even existed, but I'm just blown away by the attention. It's really helpful info to a serious hobby guy like myself. I've been doing this long enough that I've embraced the 'buy the best tool you can afford' mentality and have quite a collection of quality tools. But I still like to find a deal. Like that cabinet drill guide...I bought a similar model off of Amazon a while back when I was remodeling my kitchen. Mine was very well constructed aluminum like the one your demonstrated, but no case. I think I paid $25 at the time, and it was at least 2x better than the 'professional' guides I'd picked up from Rockler. I even loaded it to a buddy of mine who was building some new shop furniture, and he was absolutely blown away by the quality and function. So those deals are out there, but I'm glad to have a guy like you out there testing things so I don't have to work through trial and error finding the 'best' cheap tool.

    I bought this system made by Veiko based on your recommendation from Banggood. The kit I got is improved with the guides starting from 200mm and two setup marks at 295 & 371mm and side scales zeroed at the 371mm mark for cuts less than 275mm wide.
    All in all, it was a great recommendation and I'm here to thank you Dennis for these thorough reviews that save us money and frustration.

  • @glamajamma
    @glamajamma Před 2 lety

    Hoi from Den Haag. I also purchased the parallel guide system. It arrived days before you made this video. I immediately realized the issue. I zeroed it with a 3.5cm offset. which is the furthest I could bolt the track adapters. I don't think I will be cutting closer than that anyway but I can make quick adjustments if I ever do. so if I leave the narrow rod adapters in I can get accurate repeatable cuts from 3,5 to around 100 cm.
    By the way, they just released upgraded rails for preorder.

    The current Fonson Upgraded parallel guide system from Banggood has all criticized points corrected (scale also on the side, main scale starting around 22cm and so on). I just got it for 95€, shipping from CZ to Germany only took 3 days. It’s perfect, only the rods (or the tips) are 1mm too long, making the calibration inconsistent between normal and narrow cuts. It works great with my Makita track saw and rails.

    Hi Dennis! You will be happy to know that I ordered and received the parallel guide for track saws that you reviewed and they have fixed all the shortcomings that you noted about the product. The top scales are now correct and accurate (and have the reference arrows for stop guide placement) and they have added a side scale to the rails as well. I like to think that they are listening to your reviews and making adjustments! Thank you for the recommendation! I have spent a lot of money recently! ;^)

      @martink7777 Před 2 lety

      Is the calibration consistent between regular and narrow cuts? For me it’s 1mm off - when I calibrate one, the other is off by this amount. I suppose the plastic tip is a little too long. Otherwise it’s perfect.

    @jeanlucvassort6411 Před 2 lety

    Thanks for those reviews.(nice analysis and video edition) I have received the parallel guide mid dec 21 : 1st impression is correct manufacturing, manual of use or assembly still missing. I notice that there is - now - a 280 mm scale on the side starting at 200 mm from the attachement t the rail. Now it is time to test & practice. It sounds not so easy to set an accurate dimension, an index should be implemented, parallax error possible. Nevertheless the price is really much better than other systems so we have to find our way to use this Veiko product. Correction: I found a video on WP guide system issued by Graham workshop who explain very well the calibration process. I tested it, perfect. So this tool seems to be excellent for repetitive similar cuts. Thanks again for your advises, between you and Graham, all is now clear.

    Dennis -- I enjoy your reviews and have purchased some of the items you suggested from Banggood. One of the last orders for the Veiko BIG T-rulers which I ordered on the 11.11 sale has not even shipped yet. Now they tell me that they can only ship via Ocean shipping even though they still indicated Express shipping to the US on the website. And they want me to cancel the order or agree to 2 to 3 more months before I receive the three T rulers I ordered. They were unwilling to make any price or shipping concession for my time. The most I could get out of them was 500 BG points. Just wanted you and your followers to know that it looks like Banggood service is going down. Almost looks like seller remorse for selling the item at the 11.11 sale price.

    With the screw you can sircumvent the problem from getting them in to the dog holes.
    Just take out the screw, remove the handle, insert the shaft from under the table top, put the handle and screw back on, done. No matter how thick your table top is.
    All you need is enough room under the table to be able to insert the shaft.
    En in het nederlands is dat hetzelfde ;-)

      But to be honest, I do not have experience with others, so I do not know if they are stronger. For use on ply and MDF this is no problem.

    Excellent channel, plenty of useful information, it's definitely my reference source to select and check the woodworking tools.
    I congratulate on your 30th video and I wish you to continue in a same manner. I am looking forward for many many more!
    Regarding the parallel guide, I have just noticed that two versions have been offered in a shop now. The first one I think is the one reviewed in a video. The second one, available for preordering only, is an upgraded version, I suppose. Unfortunately, the photos for the upgraded version are not clear enough and the description is lacking an upgrade notice, so it's hard to understand what has really been upgraded. I think that the two lacking marks on the scale can now be seen, that's good! Also, I think it's a new font and the marks on the scale are thicker now. I doubt that the thicker scale marks could reduce measuring precision.
    Do you have any more info about the upgraded version? I hope that you will have a chance to present it in one of your next videos.

    Hi Dennis, I love your reviews and truly appreciate the time it must take to complete them. I purchased these guides based on your recommendation and wanted you to know that they arrived with the bar that goes inside the track improperly manufactured. The holes were skewed by 4mm from end to end and the clamping bolts that go inside the rail to lock the position would not go into the counterbores.
    Worst of all, Banggood has been banging me good by slow walking assistance.

    I just received this parallel guide. I'm trying to use it with my makita tracksaw. One thing that is puzzling me is the nut to attach the guide to the makita track keeps sliding with some play. uWatching your video I see you for a glimpse tryed what I thought would be easier to have a small nut to connect the rail. Does this also happens with festool track?

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 2 lety +2

      You need to use the red long bar for this. Not the small nut. In my video that was i have a shot using the small nut but that was from my unboxing video. So the longest red bar.

    Lot of the tools you were showing in ya video are Woodpecker tools design Which China has this multiple system of factories. The parent company gives them the design to these companies then spread it out to point it is pirate copy without being pirating. However, parent don't get any money for it, from non pirates factories, but it goes back to above the ladder factories. Very crafty system China is allowing. That is why it a hit-and-miss with the clones though.

    Hi Dennis, I just received the Kerfmaker from Banggood. It's beautiful but I did notice one thing. When all the jaws are closed, there is a small gap. Obviously, one would never have a zero width cutter or a zero width work piece but my concern is that the gap factors into the final settings. Can you confirm that you have the same gaps and that in practice it isn't a problem? BTW, I'm going broke watching your channel. Happily! Thanks for the wonderful content.

    Hi Dennis, in your opinion, would the doweling jig be a good alternative to the Festool Domino. It is clearly out of my price range.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 2 lety +1

      A Domino is much more versatile. So, no, it is not an alternative. But for cabinet making and simple connections. This goes very well with this doweling jig. I did not come across a doweling jig that makes this so easy and fast.
      But when you make a chair for example, then this doweling jig is not the best to use. I would prefer the more traditional models.

    I just received the Banggood Parallel guides. I barely tried them out, but I have noticed a few issues.
    1. There are no instructions. I was able to puzzle out how to out the units together, but it was not immediately obvious.
    2. There are significant "fit and finish" flaws.
    A. The "thin rip" rods would not fit through the bored holes in the hinged stops. This was due to metal "flash" where the set screw holes meet the hole for the rod. I had to force the rods through with a mallet, although I guess I could have re-drilled the holes if I had the exact size (likely metric) bit.
    B. Same thing with the T bolts that hold the stops to the tracks. Bits of flash in the holes prevented the bolts from going through.
    C. The knurled nuts that secure the stops in place would not easily thread onto the bolts. The tips of the bolts were imperfectly formed. I suggest once you get them threaded you never remove them.
    3. The biggest problem (so far) was that one of the units could not be inserted into the (Makita) track slot unless the flat-head screws that attach the guide to the rail-inset piece were loosened. I'm talking about the flat-head phillips screws, not the allen-head set screws that are meant to fix the position of the guide in the track. This would have meant loosening both the phillips and allen screws every time I needed to move the parallel guide in the track. I "fixed" this by adding a strip of blue tape between the piece that slides in the track and the "T" shaped bracket that attaches that piece to the guide.
    I have not tried the "thin-rip" function yet.
