    I love the old Dennis and the new Dennis. Showing us the affordable quality tools is very useful to me as I am elderly and on fixed income. You still produce build videos, granted not that often but you do. Would I like to see more of a mix of reviews and builds yes. This is a response to a post saying that he feels you are an advertising arm to Banggood. Keep doing what you do Dennis. Love your channel.

      I agree and being retired in this case of the drill press, I'd rather have one of these than a cheap drill press. I think well clamped it can do just as good a job. My dilema now being retired is that I have a little more time for wood working but less money to throw around. And Banggood is an avenue that allows me to access some pretty good stuff without paying for the name. Good luck Steve!

State the dimension of the hole or bore that it fits into. I have Kreg Tools. They seem to be odd man out. I will rewatch your video…. I remember watching your videos years ago when you first started your channel Dennis. How things have changed since those early days of you posting videos on CZcams. It has become apparent that the Dennis we used to know and love has morphed into nothing more than an advertising arm for Banggood. I'm glad to have watched your channel become very successful and I hope that your success keeps growing but it'd be great to see the old Dennis make a return. I've bought tools from Banggood in the past but I like to see woodworkers actually build projects and educate at the same time, not just constantly advertise what tools they have in their workshop.

      I can understand, but my build videos get hardly 20% of the viewers. So, based on that people like to know how good these more affordable products are. By choosing one firm like Banggood, I get what I want and I can say what I want. Because they know they are the ones that needs to improve the products when they want better reviews. Based on analytics, i get more views and more subscribers with these videos. So, I expected that this is what the majority want. And for me, it is fun to do and creates opportunities like designing my own tools. So, it is also exciting. So, my channel will be about these toolreviews with a critical opinion and improvements for your workshop. And for projects there are luckily 1000 other channels as well

I also enjoyed the other workshop building videos, but there are also many other good content creators out there that I follow for works, methods and techniques. With Dennis' channel, I'm often eagerly waiting for the next episode of China tools.
      I live in Southeast Asia, so as much as I appreciate the brands available in European and North American markets, the most practical and affordable range of products for me are those more accessible in Asia -- so Banggood is a good choice. Getting a good, fair evaluation and critical eye from Dennis on what's genuinely good is very useful for me.

    My drill guide arrived today, so far it looks pretty good, except unless I'm missing something the depth stop doesn't really function when you install two springs, and one spring isn't strong enough on its own. I think the instructions are for the original version and the pictures are way too small.. and thanks to that I still haven't worked out what the two small plastic washers and the two steel sleeves are actually for.

      If I look at a system like the UJK Parf Guide system, it goes way further to create an accurate grid of dog holes. Is also much more expansive and you can only us it for that purpose. But as I said in all my videos about the dog holes, you not necessary need an accurate grid of dog holes. Most of the time, I do not need the accuracy. (When you use it with a plunge saw, then I think it is worth it) So, to make the grid ass accurate as possible without breaking the bank, I tink it can be a useful tool. You will be able to drill the holes straight. But CNC like accuracy will not be possible.

    With the Parf guide, the holes sometimes do not turn out perfectly, though they are usable, for the most part. This is why they sell the reamer. If a person did buy the mobile drill guide, and they wanted to use the Parf 20mm bit, or possibly get a bit just for the drill guide as I prefer to keep the Parf Guide, for that tool alone, then one should not need the reamer. Usually the top half of the hole is fine, or the underside was drilled from the back side and does not align perfectly. Just a tip as one could doubtless find a use for both tools, but the drill guide might make the reamer unnecessary, or hold it for a later purchase. This is what I find with my set-up, though I have a different drill guide.

That said, my recent experience with Banggood resulted in a wait of 6 months and the unfortunate ending of NOT getting what I paid for and losing $263 CAD. Not a big deal. Just the principal of the matter. If you ever decide to do a show on the risk of doing business with Banggood or the hilarious customer service who wanted me to phone all Canada Border services ports of entry across 6 time zones than please let me know. The only thing I really don't understand is why they're still using those crappy manual tightened chucks with a a round end rather than an half-way decent automatic lock chuck with a hex end... I'm a bit on the fence on taking a 80€ hit to figure out whether I can turn this into a proper tool without too much effort or whether this is going to end up as another drill guide shaped paperweight...

    I wonder why the drill guide has two motor bike handlebars. You can only use one as you other hand has to hold the drill. This would help reduce costs. Also it has poor clamping options which would give a better result. It would be great if it had the option to fix to a saw track to be able to drill a series of holes in a straight line with a clamped down track.

    • @HookedonWood

      The guide rail option is something to consider. Although you can perfectly align the base against the back of a rail guide. But I agree when connected to a rail guide in any way, makes it even more steady. The base is big enough for clamping (or you have to use a very big bit, but with normal size bits, there is enough space to clamp)

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před měsícem +1

      I thought about that as well. But most of the T-track clamps have that play on the Miter track. Most of them also use a contra contact point, so it will be stable. This one lacks that so, it needs also a bigger T bar so it will not damage your T tracks. So, far I do not like the different T-track solutions.

    The drill guide seems pretty similar to UJK & Rockler's versions, but it actually seems better in one regard: the fact that it has a fence is a big advantage. I have the UJK version, and like it, but UJK missed a trick by not including a fence (or at least a way to add one yourself; there are no holes for guide rods in the base).

    • @maximusmagni1
      @maximusmagni1 Před měsícem +2

      The UJK version has an optional add-on base that accepts fences. It is also MUCH bigger and beefier than this drill guide outside of the handles. The UJK rails are twice the diameter. I really wish someone would make a drill guide just like the Woodpeckers Auto Angle drill guide, just not $800.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před měsícem

      I used them in specific situations because the aluminum hold down clamp was already easier to use. The Hongdui has an advantage that it clamps inside the hole that will give it more clamping power. Especially in an 18Mm workbench. But because I have a double layer workbench top, or thicker top, these kind of clamps with a shaft give already an impressive clamping force, so it is not necessary to increase that. But for 18mm workbench, and you want some extra clamping pressure, the Hongdui is one of the options to go for. That does not make it the easiest clamp to get. This one will work more convenient.

    Thank you for your video. Not sure what it is about these manufacturers and drill guides...? Simply make them more stable - thicken the guide bars so no more (or very little flex)? I could see in your video how careful you had to be at times, in order to achieve accurate angle holes (and having to drill the hole twice). Not worth purchasing until they are more stable. There are other options on the market - and last time I looked - for not much more than this drill guide. Thank you.

      Good point Peter, I think there are some, but they lose the mobility. But for some context. This is a pretty stable drill guide, for what it is. I do not think the 600 dollar woodpeckers will be substantial more stable. I did not say that, because I do not have experience with the woodpeckers, but based on some laws of physics, there must also be some flex with the woodpeckers.
      Ofcourse I drill carefully when I want to test accuracy. It would not be fair to drill not carefully and blame the drill guide. I think the accuracy is perfect for what it is. I do not expect it to be 100% accurate, when you drill in 30mm multiplex wood.
      So, I think my end conclusion is fair. When it cares, you can drill pretty accurate holes. When it does not care that much, well it is a very convenient tool that is easy to use for multiple holes and you results will be more accurate then without a tool like this.

    If these tools wouldn't be just 1:1 rip offs of European/North American products. Let others do the innovation work, reverse engineer the product and run the CNC. Not a fan at all.
    That Chinese companies are capable innovating products themselves is proven by e.g. Harvey. But surprise surprise, at basically the same price level as American/European products.
    If you buy bargains and even worse promote them, you either screw labour conditions in the country of origin or screw the patent holding company in other countries. Would wonder what Dennis would think about finding his plans on AliExpress for a fraction and no share for him at all.

    The clamp looks like a Festool copy. When I bought tools from China ( I mean w.o. European Brandname wich does QA) I was disappointed about quality, t rulers that are not square and not keeping calibration.. parallel guides not fitting track they designed for, clamps releasing pressure spontaneously. What normal Customer get, looks significantly different what you review. If you not a CZcamsr you have a felt 50% chance to get red alu scrap instead of a tool..

    Dit maakt dat je een verkoper lijkt terwijl je veel meer in je mars hebt. Helaas ga ik unsubscriben hierdoor.

    the advantage of Chinese products was the price. it's nice that they are becoming good quality products. But we have the quality that can be found in every store.
