    A few products from this review were sent to me by Banggood for testing. This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself. I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that Banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews.
    I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion! On this, you can count on! I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

    Hi Dennis. Great video as always.
    I'm always quick to watch your videos, to see what amazing new tools I could benefit from.
    This one is very interesting, as the new Kreg looks kind of like a cut down version of the Porter Cable 560 Quickjig from a number of years ago.
    They have a similar layout and concept, although the Porter Cable is larger, and a much heavier duty construction.
    The Porter Cable automatically adjusted the drilling depth based on the width of the material .... a sliding mechanism takes care of that and hence no need to adjust the depth stop collar on the drill bit.
    Although I'm in the UK, I imported my 560 Quickjig via Amazon USA back in 2018, cost was $152 (plus import duty) at the time, which I think was a bargain.
    Unfortunately they are no longer made, so I will treasure mine.

    Well done to Fruitman, the odds were very long for everyone but someone had to win it 😁. I'm sure that Pocket Hole jig will last a life time if looked after properly.
    As for the new Kreg 720, another amazing video review Dennis, like you I am a little surprised at some of the material choices but I suppose they have to keep the costs down to be able to sell it at a realistic price. I will wait and see if my pocket will stretch to the 720, but it is a reasonable price compared to some of the conventional ones from other well know manufactures.
    P.S. Just waiting on delivery for another 8 China tool items which have been delayed quite a while. I assume after your reviews, they sell out very quickly and have to wait for more from the factory.
    Hope your projects go well and see you next time.

    I like your reviews you are very honest in what you say. As for the Kreg 720, I still prefer my K5, it's much better in my view. I do not like the drill bits showing you what section you should select your stop collar. Where I live Plywood is not 3/4 inch and it seems to change each time, I buy a new sheet. Same goes for 2/4 bord was surprised that it will not fit with the 720, but with my K5 just goes in. So, I must adjust the drill bit to what I feel will be OK, so that the screw does not show on the other side.

    I'm glad you mentioned the issue with the setup of the drill collar. Being new to pocket holes, I felt it was strange that I drilled right into the plastic body. And when joining to materials together, I had to continue to drill into the joining piece. Almost having to start a pilot hole?

    I have the K5 and it is a massive improvement over the K4 as the K5 clamps and adjusts from the front (drilling side) as opposed to the back like the K4. While the 720 looks nice it is quite large; I do like both the dust extraction over the K5 and the ability to bring it to a flat surface. The automatic adjust is nice because I have accidentally lowered the drill block before which is not good if you don’t catch it fast enough.

    I wonder the price difference if the jig was made with more robust materials?

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety +1

      I think it will increase the price. But it all depends how complex the design will be. I think under the skin it is not that complex. It is a clever design. I did not find it too weak. Because of the big platform you use little force to clamp. I did most of the drillings with 20-25 kg force. With the K4 I need almost 50 to clamp a board secure. So, this would ask a more rigid construction.

    I have been enjoying your tool reviews, and I have bought a few! My workshop is in the kitchen of my small apartment lol. I use the Festool MW 1000 portable worktable as my base. I am thinking of taking your awesome workench and adapting the design for a smaller portable one to use as a router and table saw (drop in / drop out worksurfaces). I am a senior architectural technician with over 35 years of experience. My speciality is in bespoke detailing. For the router I plan to use the Suhner UAK 30 RF router motor with a Sauter router Lift OFL2.0. Also, I am planning to use the Incra LS Joinery Standard Fence system (430mm). I am still up in the air as to what saw to use for the table saw. Any suggestions?

      Difficult question, but I think when I have to do my work in the kitchen in a small apartment, I would choose for a Tracksaw. it is quit, with a good add one workbench, you can make it accurate and easy to use and it has good dust extraction. Best luck you neighbors do not kick you out of the building :-)

    Great review as usual Sir. I bought one of these 2 weeks ago and used it daily. In my opinion after trial by fire it is a piece of junk. I returned it and went back to my K4. Lots of plastic, lots of flex.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety

      Really! But what did flex? and was this from the beginning? Does it has impact on the pocket hole? I agree with the plastic though. But Most of the clamping force I used was between 20 a 30 kg. That is not much. With the K4 you probably use around 50kg to hold a piece in place. So, I am a bit surprised to read your experience. Will see how it will holds in the long term.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety

      Hi Peter, perhaps in the future. I saw a Amor last week and I was surprised how much play there was on the bushings. And it was not that heavy used. I found the construction really genius, but based on the 10 minutes I hold the Amor in my hands, I like the size of the 720. If you have the 720 for one week, all the others look too small. Especially the clamp arm of the Amor was really small in comparison. I do not know how this will work out the long term, but I like working with the 720

    Looks like Kreg have copied the Porter Cable jig somewhat, but with a few omissions. PC unit is mostly metal and more robust, & the PC unit doesnt require constant changing of the drill bit ring, every time you change wood thickness. Set it once and you are set for life. I think Kreg pocket holes are a bit cleaner than Porter cable, but I think the PC Quick Jig is a little easier to use. The 720 also costs a bomb!

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood  Před 3 lety

      Hi Anthony, I do not have the K5 myself. I saw an Amor yesterday that was 1 year old. This was wear out completely. I find this also very clever build. On some points even easier than this 720. But, the fact you can use it upside down this easy is very handy. And I already like the bigger build of the clamp itself more. About the K5, why is it more versatile? I was surprised that you still have to reach over the board to push the clamping mechanism in place. This looks like a big plus for the 720.
      But, do not get me wrong, I just got it and used it for two weeks. Hardly not on a project but mainly for testing. So, I made a 50 holes or something in different material. And although I like it, I do not have something against a K5, K4, Amor or the Banggood pocket hole jigs. But Based on my experience with the 720, I can not see a point why you would not like it.

    The Kreg K-5 jig is still available, in a few places and
    is better, overall, than the K-4 or the K-720.
    It is an improvement over the K-4 and does not have
    the, functional, shortcomings of the K-720.
    Kreg made a mistake, in immediately discontinuing the K-4 and 5s.
    I believe they will see a decrease in sales.
