    A few products from this review were sent to me by Banggood for testing.
    This does not mean that I do get all my products. I review also a lot of products I bought myself.
    I started these reviews because from my experience not every tool from China was worth buying. So I wanted to make in-depth reviews to show you which products you should consider and which product you better leave alone. The fact that Banggood sent me products occasionally does not change the way I make my reviews. I still give in-depth reviews and give you my honest opinion!
    On this, you can count on!
    I have a good experience with Banggood.com and they have a lot of woodworking tools nicely organized on their site.

I don't know if you have the info, took a while to hunt it down, the black mdf in Australia can be bought from a company in Melbourne called " BORD ", not cheap but I wanted it. Thanks again for your quality reviews.

  • @andreasbentz6106
    @andreasbentz6106 Před 2 lety +1

    Hey Dennis! Thanks for the excellent video. Hearing you say the words "KWB" and "quality" in the same sentence cracked a smile on my face. KWB is part of the Einhell Group which stands for the more entry level of tools. Pricewise as well - so charging 20 bucks for this forstner drill is shameless!
    Coming to what you call forstner bit set: Firstly I want to point out, that I have a similar set and I absolutely love it! BUT they are not forstner bits. There is a very important difference to forstners, that might lead to disappointment if you are not aware: As you can see in the video, a forstner bit has a nearly circular outside shape that stays in contact with the wall of the hole and keeps the drill centric inside the hole. The bits from the chinese set however, have carbide blades, that protrude from the steel body of the bit about 1mm. The drill ist centered only by the little tip in the middle. When you use such a bit in a manually guided drill, this leads to a slight sideways shifting - especially in holes deeper than the height of the bit body. That does not happen with a frostner bit. Another big difference between these two drill bit types is, that the forstner bit can drill partial holes at the edge of the material, where a part of the hole is not in the material.
    When used in a drill press however, like in your test, there is practically no difference between these two drill bit types, because the drill press itself provides stable guidance. So for good results use these china bits in a drill press or with any other firm guidance for your drill and you will be absolutely happy with them.
    Fun fact: In contrast to forstner bits, those drill bits like your chinese set are called in Germany "Kunstbohrer". Deepl returns "art drill" as a translation, but I have severe doubts that this direct translation is the correct name in English.
    Please keep on your excellent work.
    Best Regards
    Andreas

    • @MatzeMaulwurf
      @MatzeMaulwurf Před 2 lety

      Andreas 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I just wanted to address these points! KWB and Kunstbohrer 😂 very good explanation. I‘ve bought some KWB-Wood drills on a flea market. All where the same „Professional Series“. Most of them are cheap quality. But two of them are excellent HSCO-Drills with fine sharpness and a smoooooooth finish. So kwb is a typical distributor/Handelsunternehmen. But it is in general cheap quality. I needed some cheap ones to build a fence on a horse farm out of wood with doubtful origin. Some had concrete on them. I didn’t want to ruin mine fine Würth set. Buy 10 pcs. of 6mm for 2€ was fine for the job.

    Fantastic video as always! The "hollowness" in the middle of both squares is a necessary feature of injection molded plastic parts. There is a maximum wall thickness for each type of pastic because of shrinkage while cooling from the mold. The squares are actually "ribbed" so that sufficient strength is achieved, while maintaining almost uniform wall thickness.

    I have used the same set of forstner bits for over 2 years. Thrashed them and still sharp. Only criticism is the tiny cutters at the edge make the bit prone to wander if used handheld. Not their intended purpose but a point to consider

    @ST-0311 Před 2 lety

    Dennis, sir. Wow.
    I just binged watched 25 episodes of China Tools. Very impressive reviews, Dennis. Truly exceptional detail.
    There are so many "Tool" channels on CZcams focused on the current cordless power tool craze. These channels have their place of course. Drilling holes and driving screws into rock-hard petrified wood may demonstrate a tool's raw potential. However, such tests usually lack the depth of detail for fit and finish, ergonomics, durability, and warranty to justify the conclusion that the yellow/red/teal tool is the best.
    It is so refreshing to find a channel focused on the finesse of the little things. A kerf maker! A magnet! A clamp! Little things that improve the quality of life in the workshop so greatly.
    My only wish is that more of the products from China had an imperial equivalent of the outstanding metric tools.
    Can a drill make a hole? Yes.
    Is a square... square? Too few would think to ask. Far fewer would have it tested at an industrial complex. Magnificent!
    Subscribed. Bell rung. Awaiting more.

I want to combine this with an MFT table to come up with a table saw like set-up for my track saw. Keep the quality reviews coming!

    I love your channel, and your energy and I've really enjoined your project video's in particular.
    That said, I'm a bit sad to see so little project video's lately. In fact it's starting to feel like a commercial for china tools.
    I understand the (financial) hurdles of running a channel (I have one of roughly the same size), but just be aware of the direction you're going in😉.
    As an alternative maybe you could do projects (tailored to the tools you want to showcase) where you actually use several (china) tools and talk a bit about them in the process to balance the projects and the commercial topics.
    Anyway, keep it up and go far!

    I think I have at least about the same router lift as shown. One problem I have with it is that there is no locking mechanism for the lift. I have noticed that if there is some vibration from for example routing a bit too deep groove the lift depth can change during routing. Something you should check when you test it

    • @HookedonWood

For example the router lift looks almost identical to the one sold by Sawstop, ditto for the Jessem clear cut table saw guides from Hongdui, etc. Is this because (a) these brand name products are produced in the same factories and these factories have license to produce identical products under different brands for less $; (b) are these "reverse engineered" products produced in China based off breaking down established brand name products or (c) is this a straight up breach of intellectual property? Any ideas?

    Hi Dennis,
    Another great episode👍👍. Really interested in the router lift. However looking at the price of $319 or €264 it is not that much cheaper than say the Sauter router lift at €339 and which is a very high quality/precision router lift. Would be really interesting to see how good it is and also how much better it would be than using a Triton router with adjustable height which I guess is cheaper than both and the router comes with it? Very much look forward to seeing router lift review if you do it ? 👍👍👍take care.

    Re, T-Track: Look at dimensions on the T-Track, and what standards it is made to if any. T-Track in the USA was 3/4-inch wide, and 3/8-inch deep, and sized to work with 1/4-20 fasteners with 7/16-inch across the flats nuts and bolt heads… Then every body started jiggling things a bit.

    Have you heard about the new tax and customs regulations from July 2021 on. What impact will this have on orders at Banggood. As far as I have heard, it affects all goods that are shipped to the EU. The tax-free limit falls away, as far as I have heard. One must then pay customs and import duties on everything you order from outside EU.

Vooralsnog zijn de prijzen redelijk gelijk gebleven, maar nu met BTW. Ik denk dat ze vooralsnog dit verlies dragen.

    As much as I admire your tool reviews, I'd like discourage the purchase of plastic tools. I've seen any number of tools ruined by the eventual failure of their plastic components. Also, with much use anodized tools suffer in terms of their appearance. With minimal maintenance cast iron ages well but who can afford them? I'd encourage all wood workers to use a few perfectly accurate tools to make much of their kit. See JSK-koubou and Ohyo56 on CZcams. For instance, search "45 degree / 90 degree" to see whether you might not make your own beautiful, superior, lifetime tools.

      @HookedonWood  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the info and I agree you can also made them yourself. But that counts for a lot of tools. Aluminum is fragile. IF you drop this, you also get some small damage, but that is easily to repair. Also with DIY squares you have to check some times if everything is still under control. But I get the point.
