In Dye Time #76 ( • Dye Time #76: Dyeing T... ) I dyed a skein of yarn twice with the same dye. That time it was with a purple dye. I loved how that yarn turned out and have wanted to repeat this method again. When I get new dyes, I dye 10g of yarn at a 1% depth of shade, meaning I used 0.1g of dye on the 10g of yarn. This leaves me with lots of 10g skeins I can have some fun with. Shiitake mushroom is a dye that breaks dramatically, which is why I chose this one. And it did not disappoint!
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.

I have a monthly yarn subscription that can be purchased through my Patreon: / fromthecauldron Each month you'll receive 100g of yarn in your chosen weight dyed in a mystery colourway and some goodies made by other small businesses. Another perk for Patreons is they get early access to the video where I dye that month's yarn and they get to vote for next month's theme.

Thank you! I love the breaking that happens with these dyes. Good luck with your dyeing!

Beautiful! I have that color and actually used it to base dye some embroidery threads, then wanted to over dye with browns that break. I have my ‘Lindy’s Stamp Gang’ dry powders, their ‘magicals’ as they are called, because they break so beautifully. They really are not formulated for fibers or cloth, though - more for paper crafting. But I like to bend the rules as much as I can 😉. I can get good breaking on my threads, but they will wash out. For my threads that are only going to be used in pieces that will never be washed, I guess that’s fine, but not ideal. Anyway, will be ordering Dharmas browns this week and see how they do. Thanks for sharing all your creative content with us! Xo

From what I can tell, the dharma fibre reactive dyes aren’t intended to be used in powder form, which is why they break so beautifully! Mermaid’s dream and blue violet are two that I love when they break. Good luck with your dyeing!
