Dye Time

When I get a new dye, I like to dye 10g of yarn at a 1% depth of shade (meaning 1g of dye per 100g of yarn). I do this to get a feel for the colour and how the dye reacts. This means I have lots of 10g skeins to experiment with. The yarn I chose to over dye today was dyed with elven lily which is a fibre reactive dye from Dharma. I wanted to use up the tiny bit of cyan (acid dye from DT Craft and Design) that was left over, so I used that to attempt to do a staggered dip dye. I wanted the changed between shades of cyan to be obvious.
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.

Blues are the ones that get me! Although there is one green I’ve learnt to use very sparingly.
