In this Dye Time, I hand paint a new to me, unusual plant based fibre; pearl! I hand painted this fibre with 5 different fibre reactive dyes, then spun the fibre into a gorgeous, multicoloured, crazy yarn. I'm used to fibre compacting on itself when it's been dyed and I have to fluff it up. Not this fibre! It was very fluffy already! This was a very interesting experience and the whole way through, I kept saying to myself "I can't believe this is made from pearl!"
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.

I have a monthly yarn subscription that can be purchased through my Patreon: / fromthecauldron Each month you'll receive 100g of yarn in your chosen weight dyed in a mystery colourway and some goodies made by other small businesses. Another perk for Patreons is they get early access to the video where I dye that month's yarn and they get to vote for next month's theme.

It's so beautiful, what will you make with it?

Thank you! I’m not sure what I’ll make with it. Possibly, it will make part of a hat along with my other samples.

Do you use hot water or cold water as you use your dyes?

Usually cold tap water. Some dyes dissolve better in warm tap water, which I usually only remember after I’ve tried dissolving them in cold water!
