In this Dye Time, I dip dye a new to me, unusual animal based fibre; milk protein! I had some milk protein fibre that I decided to spin into yarn, then dye. Even though this was sold as a vegan fibre, it's not a plant based fibre. So I did a bit of googling and decided to treat this as any other animal based fibre and used acid and heat to set the dye. This was a very interesting experience and the whole way through, I kept saying to myself "I can't believe this is made from milk! How???"
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
