I had some left over sweet pea fibre reactive dye (from Dharma) in solution that I wanted to use. Fibre reactive dyes, once in solution, have a short shelf life, so I wanted to use it rather than toss it. Since there was so little dye, I decided to use it up to dye a base layer, then speckle with the dry dye powder on top. This is a method I've done before and it produced amazing results. It's something I'd eventually like to do with all my dyes but that might take a while! Once I'd speckled on the dye powder, I wrapped up the yarn in cling film and steam set it.
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
