    It really is a great lens. I have the XC version of the lens. I’m slowly but surely migrating from Sony to Fuji and the XC35mmf2.8 has been a great introduction to the fantastic image quality of their lenses. The build quality of the XC35 on the other hand …

    I kept the 35mm f2 for it's wr properties but honestly I just swapped my 23mm f2 for a 23mm 1.4 and that's my go to for most shots now, I like having more room in my shot and I actually think the 23mm distortion is very pleasing. the 35 is great for closeups but if I'm shooting environment portraits it's gonna be the 23mm 1.4 all day.

    Cool, i have the lens on my x-t1, but pictures show darker corners and a dark band left & right side. Looks like I shoot through a pipe. Wonder why only the center shows no dark?

    How do you think, which one is better for portrait shooting - 50mm f2 or 35mm f2?

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před rokem +1

      35 on APS-C is my preferred focal length for portraits. Thanks for watching!

  • @Fuzzbrause
    @Fuzzbrause Před 3 lety

    Thank you for the video! Actually I think, if you´re starting of with Fuji to look towards Viltrox. I think those lenses are much cheaper, giving awesome results. I owned the 35/f2 for quite some time, but always missed someting. I think the lense is tailor made for streetphotography, but for portraits it is just ok. I used this lens a lot, especially since it is weather sealed. But once i shot the viltrox 33/f1.4 i was so impressed by the results you get. Thus I sold the f2. Honestly I miss it from time to time, when the wheather is rubbish and I want to shoot anyway. Of course I considered the 35/1.4, but I think this lense is far to old and outdated to justifiy the price.

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, Gunnar! I appreciate the comment. Great point about the Viltrox lenses. I haven’t used them, but I’ve heard great things. I probably should have mentioned that as an alternative to Fujifim’s own lineup. Thanks so much for watching!!

    Is F2 on apsc the same on full frame? I mean, does it give the same depth of field?

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 3 lety

      Great question! So an F/2 lens will always let in the same amount of light as any other F/2 lens. As far as DOF goes, the APS-C cameras will theoretically have a larger plane of focus, more DOF, at F/2 than a full frame camera due to the smaller sensor size. Thus larger sensors offer more bokeh at fast apertures than APS-C but how much more and whether or not that really matters to you is something you can explore and decide for yourself. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching 😊

    the 35mm lens cover is easy to drop... any suggestion?

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 3 lety

      You're so right about that! It's annoying! I don't have any real solutions to it, sorry :( I'm just usually careful not to bump the lens or anything like that because I have lost the lens caps before. I know some companies make rubber lens caps, which might work if they are made in the right size, but I don't know enough about it to recommend anything. Thanks for watching & for subscribing! I really appreciate it!

    I am really wondering about buying 1.4 or 2.0 for street photo and portraits. And my question will arrive again with 23mm. It’s important for me portability and I also live in a rainy area in the North of Spain. Some people recommended me the 1,4 as more profesional. I am very hesitant about that. Can you help me?

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there! Thank you so much for watching! This is a great question. I think that there are benefits to both. My original copy of the 23 F/2 was amazing. Super sharp, beautiful lens. That was back when the lens was manufactured in Japan. Now they are made in the Philippines and I can tell that the quality is not as good. It definitely won't be a lens that you will enjoy shooting wide open, but when you stop down the quality improves a lot. I haven't used the 1.4 lens, but I've read a lot of great things. I think it depends on what you will be shooting. Weather sealing isn't necessary unless you are shooting outdoors most of the time. I think either could probably work for professional shoots depending on what you are shooting. I hope this helps!

  • @achimwasp
    @achimwasp Před 3 lety

    Fully agree - that little lens is great. But you made me want the 90mm/f2 even more now that I saw your review (even though I have and could live with the 50-200). B.t.w. I appreciate the closed shirt, as the open one was way too distracting ;-).

    do you use single point focus when shooting group photos as well?

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 2 lety

      More and more I have been using Canon's eye AF, but yes I do sometimes use single point, making sure I'm shooting at a reasonable aperture to keep everyone in focus.
