    you are a good photographer. so many youtube "photographers" just show snapshots with people in them with no regard to composition or anything and think its "street". Your photos clearly have a purpose and i hope to be as good as you some day.

    • @MrsMysteryWoman
      @MrsMysteryWoman Před 4 měsíci

      This is true. The trendiness of “street photography” is just plain cringe. REAL street photography requires artistic vision and intent, the ability to ‘see’ real and candid moments with a proper skill set and great timing.
      You clearly understand these things

    I'm about to go in and buy my first Fuji camera + prime lens. I must have watched 15 videos so far but I have to say I love the walk around segment at the end of your videos. It's truly the best way that I've seen to get a good sense of the focal length, and how close you need to get to capture certain subjects. Really great job on the rest of the review too.

      Thanks a lot for your comment.
      Could you please help me, I'm wondering if I should buy the 35mm F2 for stills and facecam videos:
      1. Is your 35mm F2 still prone to hunting while shooting videos in march 2021? In which conditions?
      2. Did you find a way to solve it? Maybe the last february 2021 firmware updates correct this? It helped many of my lenses autofocus...
      3. In particular: did you try to play with autofocus sensitivity and speed, as they play a major role in autofocus breathing?
      If it is not solved yet, I'm afraid that this hunting/focus breathing ruins my videos as I need continuous autofocus and face tracking (for CZcams facecams and customers interviews). That's why I ask, it's very important to me ;)
      Thanks a lot!

    I tend to disagree, I at one stage had both the 35 f 2 & f1.4, did many side by side comparisons & didn’t find either any sharper then the other, both were very sharp at all distances, even after pixel peeping I couldn’t seperate them and couldn’t tell which image was shot on which lens. Very nice review Roman. If I’m not using the XF 16-80 on the X-T4, it’s either this lens (35mm f/2) or my latest acquisition, the XF 50 f/2. I know what purple fringing is but I never have that problem on any of the f/2 lenses (or the XF 16-80), I don't know if it’s got to do with the aperture, I shoot mostly at f/8, I have no use for blurry backgrounds or bokeh of onion shapes (Hahaha). Thank you in advance.

    I’ve literally just bought this lens after a lot of review watching/reading, and I’m looking forward to having all 3 of the so-called Fujicrons. I’ve got the 35mm 1.4 so it’ll be nice to have the choice of tiny but not so fast, and bigger but faster. I’ve gravitated towards the primes much more of late (love the 27mm Mk1) and on the X-E3 these small lenses really pack a punch but don’t take up much space. Perfect for what I shoot.

    I'm a bit confused due to crop factor... So, to be clear, your love for the 35mm lens here (which is a 50mm equivalent on full frame) is really a love for the 50mm focal length, not a love for the 35mm focal length?
    So 50mm (the 35mm lens) is your favorite focal length for street photography, followed by 35mm (the 23mm lens)?
    Context: I'm a long time full frame shooter who recently acquired my first fujifilm camera (x100f which is 23mm = 35mm equivalent on full frame) and I love it so much that I'm now considering an xs10 or xt4 for lens options.

    About the lens hood, there is a very nice option from Fujifilm named LH-XF35-2. It clips on, fits both the 23 f2 and 35 f2 and is metal.
    Used to rock the plastic screw in before I found this one and this just feels so much better.

    • @pret5097
      @pret5097 Před 10 měsíci

      I’m wondering why people tend freely replace the original hood of particular lens by other one originally designed for wider lens and claim it perfectly ok having the same effect. From aesthetic standpoint I can get it, but technically, there is obvious optical functionality the hood is aimed for, and this is to block the stray light beams hitting the lens from the angles that are beyond lens’s field of view.
      So the wider is the lens, the shorter the hood will be in order to avoid blocking the usable light towards the boundaries of the particular field of view.
      Which means, using the hood from wider lens on a longer lens undermines the very basic optical functionality the hood is intended for. In such case the only reason to put the hood on is just some sort of mechanical protection

    • @IszakG
      @IszakG Před 10 měsíci +1

      @pret5097 Yeah, but the one I mentioned in my comment 3 years ago is made for the XF35mm f2, which is the lens this video is about.
      It happens to fit to the 23 f2 aswell, and is sold for both lenses by Fujifilm, so I guess they have made it work good enough for either lens.
      Oh, and the original hood from the XF23 f2 is narrower than the original for the XF35mm f2, so your argument does not apply to this example.
      You are right in general though, that hoods for wider lenses are usually shorter and less narrow, and therefor would not do much to help decrease bounching straylight in a telephoto lens.

    My copy of the 35mm f2 has next to no purple fringing, but my 16mm f1.4 has terrible purple fringing. It is hit or miss sometimes from copy to copy unfortunately.

      Hi. Will this lens greatly improve the image quality? I have the fuji XT200 with the 15-45 kit lens. Will the fuji 35 mm be a great upgrade? Thanks!

      @@gessinibirad2980 A zoom will be more versatile than a prime in terms of focal length/FoV, but a "nifty fifty" equivalent like this 35mm is a classic "normal" semi-tele focal length that is plenty versatile and the main reason it's usually glued to my camera.
      In terms of IQ, this lens is SHARP. You will find that very closeup, macro shots will be a bit soft wide open at F2 (like the X100 series and the 23mm F2), but beyond that, its has excellent sharpness, contrast and color rendering across the frame and minimal vignetting.
      Some people find its optics a little "too" perfect compared to the F1.4 version, but I'm always so delighted by the images it produces.
      Compared to the 15-45, you'll also find the build quality is in another class and weather-sealing is very convenient. It doesn't have OIS, however, but the faster aperture will more than make up for that to allow you to shoot at higher shutter speeds in low light situations.
      Hope that helps!

      @@larrynguyen85 thank you so so much for the information! Such a big help.
      My concern is if i get a 35 mm lens, would it be a big improvement or the difference just close from my 15-45 mm kit lens? Or am i just spending money for nothing?
      All i am after is to get great portraits but a bit wide like the 35 mm.
      Also, is the 35 mm f2 great for portraits of a couple?
      How does it compare to the f1.2? Still torn between the 2 of them.
      How are portraits at f2? Do i have to stop down to f2.8 to get better portraits?
      Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

      @@gessinibirad2980 Hi Gessini. If you are wanting to do portraiture, then yes the 35mm f2 is excellent. If you need more background/subject isolation I would look at the 35mm f1.4 or the Mitakon Zhongyi as they have faster apertures. The f1.4 is much older and slower af than the f2 and less sharp, and many say it has a very vintage and "magical" look. The f2 has very fast af, and contrast and sharpness and IQ are better, but less background separation. The Mitakon is a manual focus lens and has a very dreamy, full-frame look. There's an excellent review comparing all three here if you interested: fujilove.com/which-35mm-lens-should-you-buy-for-your-fujifilm-x-camera/ . Hope this helps!

      @@larrynguyen85 thank you so much for this! Now i am leaning towards the f1.4.
      But Just a question for the f1.4. Does the slow autofocus affect the quality of the image? Does it make images blurry?
      Also, i pick the f1.4, will i be able to use face and eye detection? Because thats the one i use for portraits.

    Eventually you will get tiny scratches on the front element. I used one of my favourite lenses without a filter and ended up with tiny scratches and I have no idea how they got there. It doesn’t affect image quality just the resale value. On my Fuji system I only have two lenses this one 35mm f2 and 18-55 f2.8 -4

    Should I get it if I already have the kit 18-55?
    I mean, I know the prime is smaller, has better light at 35mm and is weather resistant, but I wonder if the lens I already have won’t become useless after I buy the prime.
