- Fujifilm 35mm F2 Review | Best value lens for cinematic images.
My thoughts on this incredible little lens by Fujifilm using it on my Fuji Xpro1. This is a perfect lens for travel, landscape, street or even portrait photography. It's compact with amazing image quality!

This guy knows what he’s talking About! ❤️
Great review! The 35mm f2 is my favourite lens. I use it on my X-T4. Yes, it does shoot in the dark!
Wonderful photos - they look amazing! I have several of the Fujifilm cameras with the 16mp sensor (X-Trans2) and they do have an astonishingly film-like quality about them. Your assessment of this 35mm has put it on my "must have" list now...
I’m just as happy about the 35mm f2 as you are! I’ve owned several Fuji bodies and several Fuji lenses and the 35mm is my favourite since its such a fast and fun lens for the money. I’ve actually bought and sold it 3 times over and just a few weeks ago I had two of them at the same time (long story). 😂 I’m also a 50mm shooter. Actually I’ve sold all of my lenses and now only own this 35mm f2 for my X-Pro3 and a 50mm f1.4 for my Nikon FM2n. 😂 I hope the best for you and your channel! Your content and quality deserve loads and loads of subs! Take care!
Traded in my canon 6D for a Fuji x-T2 and I cannot wait to get it. I can’t pinpoint what it is about Fuji’s picture quality but I’m in love..
Hope you are enjoying your X-T2! One of my favorite cameras every. I have no doubt you love it! Peace.
One thing that surprised me as a new hobbyist (painter mostly interested in capturing scenes as I see them) was I bought one of those knockoff cheap ones which was quite good considering it was like 75 pounds. Image was pretty crisp and I knew that it wouldn't be quite as sharp and might have some artifacts especially in certain situations. However, when I bought the XC version of the 35mm from fuji for 200, I was happily surprisedthe colour rendition is a huge step up. The photos now look very close to the scene in terms of color. I would say to anyone who started out with a dirt cheap lens, make the step up to the xc 35mm for that bit of extra cash, you won't regret it.
Just purchased this for my Xpro 3 and I'm really enjoying it
Love this lens. It performs very well in low light. I used to shoot burlesque performances and used this lens a lot. I did sell this lens to get the 1.4, which is great, but the focus speed and accuracy in low light on the F2 is actually better.
Great lens. great honest review, great shots and absolutely stunning models (give 'em credit) unique! Just, wow.
Especially the female, just such strong, remarkable features. The photo at 3:07 is absolutely breath taking. Thank you Sir!
hey Tobias, thank you for watching and for your kind comments brother!
Very nice review
Fuji aps-c is the sweeet spot for weight and size. Love it when you pulled out the zeiss ff lens to compare size. I even find my X-T2 to be too big and heavy and will grab my old X-M1.
Definitely! Big lenses and FF systems have their place too, but Fuji is killing it for sure. As we always say, the right tool for the right job!
Great review. Thanks for sharing 🙂
thanks for watching!
Congratulations great review, excellent lens excellent x-pro1.
Thanks for watching bud and for your kind words!
Great review man, personally I love Fuji's lenses, very sharp with a smooth & organic bokeh!
Thanks dude! Yeah judging from this only lens that I own they’re pretty incredible, especially at these tiny sizes!
Thank you!!! How do you like flare? I love shooting backlit 😬😬😬🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
which lenshood you got? any links. I have head of wierd distortion in this lens for raw files. If one uses lightroom, it automatically corrects the distortion. JPEG is autocorrected by camera. But if raw file has to be edited without lightroom, distortion is significantly there. 35mm, 1.4 has better bokeh but I get it that you got this as you love to shoot in lens. Thanks for the video.
Hi try the Fuji 16-2.8 on the xpro 1 it’s really nice and I love using it.
Great video and great pictures!!
thank you brother.
Cool, i have the lens on my x-t1, but pictures show darker corners and a dark band left & right side. Looks like I shoot through a pipe. Wonder why only the center shows no dark?
Greg, I own the X-pro1 since November (came with the 18/2), bought the 35/1.4 and the 23/2, AF wise the Camera is a different beast with the newer 23/2. focusses faster and nearly silent. Not so with the original lenses. They perfectly workable though. The images coming out of the 35/1.4 are great. Just a different vibe to the 23/2. I d say more pastel colors and an organic look whereas the 23/2 has more contrast.
I was tempted to get the 35/2 as well, just to compare. Some sell locally for 250 chf. I like the compactness and looks of the f2 ones. I am just a hobby photographer and I am fine with f2. Had the x100t for 5 years as my only camera, never a problem with f2. I d say the magic of the 1.4 comes out in portraits the most. If you mostly shoot streets, I think the f2‘s are perfect. Faster, silent & more compact. Also if you like to use OVF the f2‘s don‘t get in the way. I think if someone is serious about photography or a pro, you could very well own both 35‘s for different situations.
Cheers from Switzerland
Great points and I completely agree that for everyday and street the f2 primes are more than enough. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Nice review! 🥰😍🤩
Thanks for watching!
I use my Xpro 1 for night photography all the time. Pro Negative Standard and Monochrome are the best film simulations for iso of 3200 to 6400. But I don’t use the 35 f2 for night photography either. I use either my Mitakon 35mm 0.95 or a lens with a 1.4 aperture.
Nice review I sold my xpro 1 last year and I ended up buying it again this year. Even tho for work I use Leica Q and Leica sl I was still missing those Fuji colors it’s not the perfect camera it is slow but I love it I’m using mine with the xf35mm 1.4 I wanted to keep my set up this time as original as possible lol
I’m very curious to try the 35 1.4. The rendering looks lovely. How do you like your Leica Q? Fuji definitely has incredible beautiful colors! The xpro1 has definitely spoiled me in the colors department.
Nice video!
Great, balanced review. Good photos too. What colour film simulation are you using. Great colours.
Hi Tom, thank you. I don't use film simulations, I edit my photos. I have a video on this channel on how I edit, you can check that out if you like. Thanks for watching.
very very nice pictures! i love the colors, did you use some film simulation or you made them in post? regards from italy!
hey bud, thank you! I edit my photos in post. I have a video in my channel on how I edit, if you want to see :)
Since "value" was in the title, I thought you would mention the XC 35mm f/2. Same exact lens, but without the aperture ring and plastic replacing some of the metal-1/2 the price. But, you made a good case for the XF 35/2 (Which I own, BTW) and your clip had good production values.
I bought the XC used for $169 which is crazy good. I dont mind not havin the ap ring. Its on my XE1
I picked up a used silver copy for 70 Dollars which I would have been an idiot not to buy. I still prefer my 23mm 1.4 for most things, but I have gotten some absolutely wonderful shots with this lens on my backup camera.
I have the same lens and agree, it is a great lens.
Hi Greg (nice name ;D)! Very nice review man. I got this 35 f2 used it alot in crazy rain, blizzards etc and a night super cool photos. Recently got xpro2 and yesterday got 35 1.4 for a very good price and seems to be actually very good as well, focus seems ok, super sharp too. Need to test it more outdoor and see. I will try to do a review of both, but im not so good infront of camera hehe
Ha! Hi Greg! I’m very curious to hear your thoughts about the 2 lenses. Looking forward to your video!
@@Gmakamian Haha I was just testing them just now. My biggest surprise is when changing from 35 f2 to f1.4 lens (on gorillapod) when doing pictures 1.4 pictures were wider like 32mm or something, maybe its closer to the sensor idk, strange.
@@gregoryoutdoors some lenses might be wider or longer than their advertised focal length. I had the same thing happen with my old zeiss 55mm. It was more like 58mm :)
@@Gmakamian Now im not sure which one is actually 35mm heh
Greg you are a really good photographer.
Thanm you for your kind words Arturo!
So iso6400 is called now days as "can't shoot in the dark"? Lot of people never shot film back in the day..Thought that my xpeo-1 is going up to ISO 25500 in high setting (jpeg) or whatever that one call, since there is no such thing as ISO when it come to digital photography.
Very nice stills!
thanks John!
I wish they would update this lens with better optic (just like they did with the 23mm on the x100v)
Seems like they have quite a few lenses that need updating, like the 35 1.4 and 23 1.4.
@@Gmakamian agreed. Also hoping for more third party lenses as well. Fingers crossed for Fuji x Sigma
🎉
if I were to have a cropped sensor camera, and want to shoot at 35mm, would I have to go for a lens that is like 23mm to get 35mm on the camera? I’m new to photography and I still can’t figure out this idea, any help would be appreciated!
Hi there. Yes that is correct. For apsc cameras, you want to divide the focal length by 1.53. In this case to get 35mm: 35 / 1.53 = 22.8 which the closest lens is the 23mm. Hope that helps, and enjoy your new journey in photography!
27 mm, 23 mm o 35 mm?
Depends which focal length your prefer. 23mm will be the most versatile.
When are these guys going to learn/realize that WR doesn't mean "weather sealed." Its means "weather resistant."
Thank you for the correction. I learned now.
Lens size doesn't matter.
Yes it does.
For me, it matters whether I want to take it on a 10 mile hike with 2500' elevation gain. That's why I swapped out a Nikon for a Fuji.
@@LeslieBigos I understand and respect your decision, but you can’t say lens size doesn’t matter. It matters depending on the job. If it’s a commercial shoot where sharpness and resolution is important then lens size absolutely matters.
I love your reviews... almost bought a xpro3 but bought a xpro1 instead 🥸
Thanks Johnny! Enjoy your xpro1, it’s such a beautiful camera.
