Just the fact that Sony pulled the "You're legitimate criticism of our trailer and movie is misogyny" crap and attacked James Rolf in the media for simply saying that he wasn't going to review the movie because it wasn't "his Ghostbusters" is more than enough reason for me to withhold my money from this film. I'm not going to support a film that was marketed that way.
Exactly. They pretty much made a marketing gimmick out of treating the fans of the original like crap and they invented this controversy to drum up ticket sales. I just can't get behind a company that does that.
What I find annoying is that the people who were hating on the movie because of mahogany and the people who were hating on the movie because the same old characters weren't in it were both groups that were small but the internet and the media made them seem like they were a much larger demographic than they really were. I mean. Did they really want to see the geriatric ghostbusters running around? No. What people DID want to see, though, was a "passing of the torch" movie that took place in the same universe that didn't obliterate the original like this movie does. People didn't want to see a "New" re-telling of the same story.
Woman here! I didn't like what I saw about this movie. It's not the cast, it's the fact that it's a poor remake. it's slpastick and fart jokes... Not my cup of tea.
Same. I found the marketing and the accusing critics of being sexist neckbeards to be disgustingly cynical. The casting seems fine, but I don't want cheap girl power moments so much as good writing and well-rounded characters.

You know, because of all that backlash they'd get from the scores of people who thought this movie was going to be awesome, i.e. no one.
The producers wanted people to see the movie because it's Ghostbusters. That is the exact opposite of wanting people to judge it on its merits. Is that what being unfair to the movie means now, saying anything that the big studios don't like?
Jesus guys, the fact that they're women ISN'T THE POINT. That's the Sony interpretation of the problem the fans are having. That's the spin they put on it. The point is: This movie looks lame, the ghosts look stupid, and frankly Chris Hemsworth's character is offensive. "Equality" doesn't mean abuse the shit out of the other side to cartoonish extremes. That is what I like to call: Sexism.
Couldn't agree more. It's like the sexism is okay when it's against the men, and Paul Feig has no problems making the men look like either a-holes or complete idiots in this. Also, that ending where they shoot the ghost logo villian in the crotch pretty much sums up what Sony/Feig did to the franchise: abused it and kicked it in the balls.
I don't mind if people like this movie or even prefer it over the originals. The thing that pisses me off is that anyone who doesn't like it is labelled a "woman hating sexist" and maybe adding in their skin colour for bonus points. All this based off YT comments of all things.
I thought the hate for this film was disproportionate also, loads of comments complaining that this was all the fault of "sjws" and "feminazis", and not Hollywood's current trend of attempting to cash out by revamping old franchises. I'd like all of this to stop, please.
The writer/director Paul Feig is genuinely a man hating moron though, he was rather transparent about it surprisingly, talking about how when he was young he was bullied by other boys, and it's rather obvious he built a resentment because of that. Also arbitrarily changing already established character's gender/race/sexuality to be more "progressive" is another current hollywood trend this film is cashing in on. (Because why would you write original characters with those properties when you can just fill a quota? Though this film actually tried to make it's characters original)
culwin are you confusing feminists with women again? Ones a gender, the other's a supremacist hate group. And to debunk you're point, look at the reaction James Rolfe got when he said he wouldn't see the film in the most chill way ever.
Okay, why was Chris Hemsworth a complete _deet dee dee_ idiot as the Ghostbusters secretary? Annie Potts' Janine Melnitz wasn't some ditzy, airhead in the movies or the animated show. She was snarky and sure she flirted with Egon but she wasn't so distracted by it she was incompetent. Is his role a "take that!" or something? I swear it sounds like it.
I haven't seen the movie, but what I heard about it, it seems like they've gone one step up from the original by making all characters but the Ghostbusters babbeling idiots, while in the original only most side characters were babbeling idiots.
I didn't hate the movie I hated the people behind it, the trailers were shit and they made the movie look like shit but instead of taking it like "yeah we fucked up" they tried to make everyone who disliked it out to be sexist neckbeards and that pissed me off. but I'm happy the movie didn't completely suck (although I'll judge for myself when I get to see it) I mean really who wants bad movies to be made?
+culwin I think the vast majority were just trolls and most of the people who genuinely disliked the trailer hated it for the bad jokes, CGI and horrible way they put it together this has been stated multiple times the trailer made the movie made the movie look like shit and Sony should have owned up to that. The trailer was the fuck up.
Harley Quinn You must have seen different message boards than me then. Personally I thought this movie looked mediocre at best, based on the bad trailers and the fact that I don't like McCarthy or Wiig.
I'm female and I'm embarrassed to call this a "movie". It's feminist propaganda and I refuse to see it. for the price of the tickets I got food for the house.
Calling it "feminist propaganda" is giving it too much credit. Its as much a legitimate part of a political movement as the so-called "Men's Rights Activists" complaining about Mad Max were (by the way, as a male, I feel no more free thanks to their "efforts." Good lookin' out, boys.). This film is just a big nothing and is using politics to try and make itself seem like more than that.
As expected it was a mediocre movie. All the negative hype around it was so silly. This kind of movie would barely get the attention, positive or negative, with any other title.
So this is the fourth time I saw it rated "meh" and then add to it that my newspaper rated it 2/5 and said "The new Ghostbusters adds very little" as summary. I think we can almost say for sure that it is just "meh" for most people.
Phelous is always super chill when he does these kinds of videos, it's hilarious. His rants are so calm and collected and his reviews are insane...maybe he did it intentionally as another meta joke ;-)
I wasn't determined to hate this movie, but since the studio's marketing strategy has been "If you're not 100% interested in this film you're a mysogynist asshole" I made the decision not to watch it. I don't care about the film's quality, it could be amazing and I still wouldn't go, because screw them, I don't need to take insults from them.
The problem this movie seems to have in a nutshell: They have Charles Dance in the movie - yet NOT as the main sinister straight evil villain playing off on the "goofiness" of the main chars...
So basically, this movie doesn't even need to exist, because it accomplishes nothing new or worthwhile to warrant the money put down for it. That's about right.
I cant really consider this film to be "feminist propaganda" like many people are saying it is, because from teh sounds of it there seems to be plenty of female-oriented gendered humor that... just doesnt seem right for something that would be genuinely feminist. The whole big-boobed ghostbusters logo joke for example... doesnt seem right... There is nothing worse for pro-women than a failed "girl power" moment or something like that, and that is why I am scared for this movie. The big reason why everyone called Jurassic World sexist was because every two seconds it tried to do a "GUIRL POWA" moment, and each time it fell flat and failed to hit the point it wanted to make. So I actually have the opposite fears that most people have, I dont care if it is feminist propaganda or a pro-woman movie... I just want it to be good at that if it is going to do that, and to do it genuinly with heart.
SJW has become such a meaningless term nowadays. It's literally a blanket term for "people I disagree with" and probably should just be thrown out. And no, most feminists are not radicals. Because most feminists aren't the types you see crying to the media or posting ridiculous stuff online. We have another term for those, "attention seekers" or, if you prefer, "tumblrinas" They're professional victims, not actual activists.
I loved how they integrated the no ghost, and the fact that they animated it sorta like the original opening for the Real ghost Busters was really nice, but after they cameoed the Stay Puff Marshmallow man even I wondered why they essentially copied that scene from the first movie
I haven't seen this movie, so thanks for your insightful psuedo-rant and review of this movie alongside your friend. I can easily believe your criticism regarding the male secretary character being depicted as consistently dumb as a brick that it completely ruins both a character and a joke when it's practically sledgehammered throughout the movie he's so dumb, it's not even funny anymore, but just agonizing. The statement at the end does sum it up pretty nicely though. I can totally buy that people have already set their minds on either judging this movie as great or pan it as being horrible, it depends on taste, but I loved hearing you two rant and laugh at each other for 30 minutes regardless.
You know what I HONESTLY can't believe DIDN'T happen with this movie? That Amy, Paul, and Katie DIDN'T do what the guys who made the Jem movie did and ask the fans to make videos of themselves talking about why they love Ghostbusters and then editing it to look like they're talking about the remake! That actually seems like something Sony would do! "Not only are they dressed like the characters from the original and NOT the remake, not ONLY do they have the CARTOON toys, but you can SEE the original and the cartoon PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND! It's SO clear WHAT they're talking about! How amazingly LAZY can you GET?!";) ************************************************************************************ Man, Casper and MY GIRL were way better Ghostbusters movies than this could ever be! Both of them look and feel natural, have a lot of emotion as well as funny moments, everyone has great chemistry, the messages about selflessness, growing up, loss, and understanding each other are done very well, and the characters are so normal and flawed just trying to get through life:) My Girl has Dan as an undertaker, HIS kind of writing, AND Vada as a great Junior Buster nailing the right personality and subtle humor who's VERY believable as his daughter obsessed with death because she's scared of it. CASPER not only has a Ray cameo and the same kind of writing BUT Dr. Harvey is SO much like Egon I have a hard time believing he wasn't supposed to be him all along, Kat is ANOTHER great Junior Buster who definitely says the things that Egon's daughter WOULD say to him, and Casper and The Ghostly Trio--nuff said;) Carrigan is a great villain and Vada's friction with Shelly until she finally gives her a real chance is so good, and the best parts of both are the slow quiet times when the characters are simply sitting around talking together:) Not to mention Vada and Kat are dealing with the loss of their mothers in their own ways and Harry and James have their own problems because of that. Both are major TEARJERKERS in places too (I cry just THINKING about them), especially at the ends when Casper sacrifices his greatest desire for Kat because he loves her before being divinely rewarded with his wish to be human so he can dance with her and Vada truly understands what it means to write from her heart by reading her poem about Thomas J and his Weeping Willow that is her way of moving forward from his death:( Plus Harry's friend and fellow undertaker Arthur is TOTALLY Winston! Even Casper: A Spirited Beginning and Casper Meets Wendy had Ghostbusters potential;)
Forgettable movie with the WORST MARKETING in human existence. More people would have seen it [because they want ghostbusters to succeed] if Paul Feig had kept his mouth shut and they didn't put all the worst jokes on their trailers.
The beams & goo going past the bounds of the movie screen was for the 3D effect... it's meant to look like the beams are "literally" coming out of the screen. Looking weird in 2D is a compromise.
Sounds like they went for doofy Family guy or SNL humor and left out all the grit that the first movie had, no doubt to make it "safe" for all audiences and so far from the reviews and rants I've seen everyone pretty much says that this film is forgettable and that's probably why. I think the original is more memorable because of the imposing villains and practical effects, Gozer and the Terror dogs were legitimately scary so the movie left it's mark on people.
People keep insisting that the movie being "okay" is worse than it being bad. But in my opinion okay beats unwatchable any day. but whatever helps them sleep at night.
bad you can at least have fun with (think MST3K, USA Up All Night, Joe Bob Briggs, Rifftrax, Red Letter Media). Passable is too weak to engage AND too weak to mock or laugh ironically. Thats how I see it. All reviews of this film say the same thing: meh in all categories. Add that the trailers are mostly bad (only one engaged me), the creators are aggressively saying that if you won't see it you're sexist, and the abuse slung at AVGN (one of the most chill people in RL) ~ and then the Sony leaks revealing they had to use legal threats to get Murray to guest...and I have no motivation to see it.
idk man. I watched Sage's and Angry Joe's reviews and there's too much bullshit to call this movie meh. Like it opening with a fart joke. And then the Ghostbusters apparently just kill the ghosts. So what's the point of the traps and ghost prison? Just seems like they didn't care. :/
Always kool seeing you hanging out with that guy, i forget his name, but I see him in aloT of your videos & he was the one who talked about the “Blast Process” on those Sonic hacks y’all did. So I can tell y’all are good buddies so that’s bad ass, & yea that movie ehhhhh lmao
Phelous, you are in my humblest opinion the CZcams expert of the Ghostbusters franchise and I will take with a full heart whatever you say about this film. From what I got overall from your review is a "Meh" re-imagining of the sorta first movie but a prequel, a lame bad guy, bad pacing, a stupid Chris Hemsworth character, a Bill Murray dying cameo, a Annie Potts' not-Janine good cameo, an okay Slimer cameo, a lot of retreading, really bad trailers promoting this film, and a lot of padding for a sequel. Um, now I really don't know if I want to see this or not! I got a lot of thinking to do here...
+Chihiro K I already knew that AVGN wasn't going to see that. So I was hoping that Phelous will. It's always good to have a backup reviewer for every occasion. Also, I have been rewatching Phelous' reviews as of late.
Jason Jimerson Oh definitely. I went here and to Brad's midnight screening as my back up. I just disagreed Phelous being the #1 expert youtuber on ghostbusters. I do agree with your comment though. If the movie is just meh, I don't think I want to waste money on the tickets...
Well, besides Brad and James, Phelous is the only other reviewer I knew for certain who was a fan of the Ghostbusters franchise as a whole. And I did see Brad's review as well and again pretty much said the film was "Meh".
Hello Pheian Porteous, will you ever review the first Resident Evil/ Biohazard movie called Biohazard 4d-executer it's a C.G. movie from the year 2000?
They could have made Rowan be a cultist who is a member of the Ivo Standor society and the leader ordered them all to bring about the end of the world.
Look, like most studios based on Diversity, I won’t hate ya for not liking this film. But tbh, this was solely made as a middle finger to the changes made to The Real Ghostbusters.
If I ever work for Sony I'll pitch a crossover between the original and the remake. involving alternate universe's dimensions. that way we'll get the remake but fans will also get their sequel.
This movie was TERRIBLE usually my family and me talk about the movies we watched in theaters on the way home THIS TIME ! we just stayed QUIET through out the entire drive home , that is not a good sign.
I'm sorry, I'm just five seconds in and I've got to ask... is that music a cover of anything? I swear I know that melody but I can't remember from what. At first I thought it was Batman: the Animated Series but apparently that's not right. It seems obvious that it would be a Ghostbusters thing but I have seen none of the movies or the Real Ghostbusters so all I know about the franchise musically is the main theme and the sting Phelous sometimes uses.
Akaito Shion Surely the very act of holding the box in your hand would prove it exists therefore there wouldn't be any need to put that on the box Then again I've seen stuff just as plainly obvious written on boxes before.
Phelous gets really camp around other men in these flaccid 'rants'. Always makes me laugh how different his edited persona on here is, compared to his unscripted videos.
I havent watched the new Ghostbusters, but I already know it is better than the original, because I dont want to agree with the sexists who hate this movie, because it is starring women (because there cannot be any other reasons why people hate this movie at all, being a remake, having lots of CG and having a different form of humor). I have already given this movie 10 out of 10 on IMDB. Such a great movie. Cant wait to watch it, so I can say that I am not a sexist
About the "Mike Hat" bit (BTW, check out the Telegraph article about Katie Dippold (www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2016/06/24/ghostbusters-writer-katie-dippold-they-said-it-was-the-worst-mov/), which describes it thus: "...[Dippold] delighted in watching the cast improvise some of the best material including a brilliant scene in which Kevin, the dopey himbo receptionist played by Chris Hemsworth asks if he can bring 'my cat' to work. When Melissa McCarthy’s character reveals she’s allergic to cats, he claims he is actually referring to his dog, whose full name is 'Michael Hat' but Mike for short". So apparently Dippold doesn't know about the older-than-dirt prank call in which the perp claims to be looking for his friend "Mike Hunt" and gets the victim to ask everyone "Has anyone seen Mike Hunt?"
This is how bad people let Hollywood get. As I'm waiting for a review on one of the worst remakes yet, Im watching an ad FOR YET ANOTHER REMAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last time I went to the theater was in 2012 too see Rush (which is a great movie) befroe that it was 2010 to see the ANOES remake that sucked balls.
The reason there was fear of this "killing the original" was that it would replace any chance of a sequel with the original cast. However, happily... this movie was SO poorly received that we are getting Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Which looks promising! Hope it follows through.
There's something that hardly anyone seems to bring up! Up until 2014, people were still anticipating a follow up to the originals. This movie seemed to temporarily kill that hope.
i like how one of them has a more realistic ghost busters shirt and the other one looks like the cartoon. I'm small so i snuck into the threatre to see the movie when it came out and almost the entire threatre was empty expect for a couple of people.
I think in all actually, the real problem regardless of the movie's quality is the director and possibly a cast member trying to shame the critical folks by claiming it all to be sexism, and that by seeing the movie it feels like rewarding them for such unethical tactics. I mean even if the movie is bad, it's not like people are unable to enjoy something regardless or even like it as a guilty pleasure, so I don't see why the director would need to pull this stunt.
The Rasmus did a cover of the Ghostbusters song _years_ ago, and that's probably my favourite version (not that I'm a Ghostbusters connoisseur, mind you).
I think my biggest fear as an at the very least a feminist-adjacent woman is that this movie's failings would be seen as justification to forego woman-led action and comedy movies. The trailers didn't put me off because they were women, it was because it was women telling derivative jokes and overacting like Hell (looking at you, Leslie Jones-- Sasheer Zamata deserves your spot as Prized Black Woman on SNL). Kate McKinnon would be, to me, the only reason to see this because I love her. If people hated what this movie stood for because of its comedic shift in comparison to the original, more power to them. Or if people hated its hackneyed attempts at "girl power" while being somewhat reductive, I can agree with it. But if they were hating this movie using misguided pot shots at feminism, it's a little suspect. I think it's a fair statement to say that there were some people who heard it was an all woman team and decided to hate it immediately, and some who attempted to give it fair judgment and didn't like it.
I disliked the idea of a genderswaped remake of the original because it felt like it happened because someone said "the original movie is great, if we could just get rid of those beloved male characters it'd be so much better." It felt kind of insulting you know. I disliked it for different reasons when the trailer came out because it felt like a parody of ghostbusters on SNL (kinda helped by all the snl actors).
I don't think it's fair to say they genderswapped characters because of some vicious hatred of the male ones, I think they were generally trying to go in a different direction. They just ultimately failed and it may (unfortunately and unjustly) reflect badly on female-led movies. From what Phelous said, it sounds like they didn't take any of the concepts with potential far enough, and they let the unfunniest and most asinine of scenarios go on too long. The movie definitely could have stood some rewrites and maybe even some recasts (I still hate Leslie Jones so much).
+jack brearley. Honstly I dont blame her for that type of comedy. Hollywood likes to types. cast alot and "the fat person is fat and falls down" joke is just a long running archetype. Chris Farly used that type humor and hated it. He wanted to do so much more but died before he got the chance.
I'm still open to her being funny in my eyes someday. What gets me, though, since I learned of her, is that I saw a female Chris Farley. And they fucking gave her (or she adlibbed) "That's gonna leave a mark". Not challenging your hate, just sharing my own disappointment.
These reboots are not really a big deal, no one remembers them after a few years, but the originals live on. Remember the judge dredd reboot? No. Exactly.
+Haleophant Green alright to be fair I never saw the dredd reboot nor do I think the original is a masterpiece, I just picked the first 80s reboot movie I thought of. But yeah, the robocop reboot? Same deal, lost in history.
Dredd is the poster-child for how to reboot a movie right. Take elements from the original and handle them respectfully, improve on points that failed and above all make it your own thing. I recommend it if you don't mind a tonne of gore.
After everything and looking back on the b.s. it seems that the director and actors dragged up the controversy when they saw the massive amount of fail that their trailers created. It was like they where trying to generate excitement by creating controversy since the trailer obviously failed.
Pretty much and both sides bit hard. If you hated it you were sexist, if you loved it you were a SJW, if you felt meh about it the torches and pitchforks came out. Hell, if you were well known on youtube and just said you didn't want to see it you were put through the internet version of being stoned to death.
+Chris “Libra113” McWilliams yeah, that's the whole thing that bothered me. Name calling and finger pointing is the first resort for the ones who can't defend themselves.
+Chris “Libra113” McWilliams yeah, that's the whole thing that bothered me. Name calling and finger pointing is the first resort for the ones who can't defend themselves.
Considering Hemsworth seems to be in a LOT of films nowadays I'm not sure if he's A, a passionate actor, (one who enjoys acting and will take...almost any role), B, is under contract to do a lot of roles, or C, is living pay-check to pay-check...which would be a little weird considering how popular he is as THOR.
Everyone who bought into that stupid rule 63 Hollywood war on the patriarchy bullshit screamed endlessly about how this proved women can't be comedians, and only men should make movies like this and COOTIES... Often while proving they didn't actually watch it. People with brains sound like Phelous in this reivew, even if what they liked and didn't like disagree with him.

It's kinda annoying how some blogs and shitty media sites are acting as if this was the first film with female leads.
and what about the other side who hated the movie the moment it was anounced as it was not the same characters they are are just as annoying
What I find annoying is that the people who were hating on the movie because of mahogany and the people who were hating on the movie because the same old characters weren't in it were both groups that were small but the internet and the media made them seem like they were a much larger demographic than they really were. ~Gene Siskel.
***** yeah Adam Sandler movies are still being made too but people do seem to like them.
Are you saying the vast majority of hate comments aren't from sexist neckbeards? And why do you say they fucked up if you don't hate the movie?
+culwin I think the vast majority were just trolls and most of the people who genuinely disliked the trailer hated it for the bad jokes, CGI and horrible way they put it together this has been stated multiple times the trailer made the movie made the movie look like shit and Sony should have owned up to that. The trailer was the fuck up.
Harley Quinn You must have seen different message boards than me then. Personally I thought this movie looked mediocre at best, based on the bad trailers and the fact that I don't like McCarthy or Wiig.
Exactly!
I did my part and pirated the movie, and deleted it right afterwards.
Watches rant on Ghostbusters.
Has to sit through an ad for Ghostbusters first.
I'm female and I'm embarrassed to call this a "movie". It's feminist propaganda and I refuse to see it. for the price of the tickets I got food for the house.
Oh my god, internalised misogyny. I'm reporting you to the rainbow-hair squad!
That said, hope the food was delish! :D
Ppfft it's just an average remake. Chill.
I'm male and I saw this twice, the extra time was for you so I could support feminism.
No, it did not make it up to even close to average. The new Robocop was an 'average' remake.
As expected it was a mediocre movie. All the negative hype around it was so silly. This kind of movie would barely get the attention, positive or negative, with any other title.
Yeah. This movie should have been barely seen and then forgotten, like all the other remakes from the last five years.
+Michael Kuzmanowski The Robocop remake... ech...
This isn't the story people wanted though, in a time with reboot after reboot, you can't blame people for being unhappy.
That didn't exist. You were having a fever dream.
Could it be the reason this got alot more hate was people wanted ghostbusters 3, instead they got a remake
So this is the fourth time I saw it rated "meh" and then add to it that my newspaper rated it 2/5 and said "The new Ghostbusters adds very little" as summary. I think we can almost say for sure that it is just "meh" for most people.
meanwhile we have other people calling it
"revolutionary"
positively or negatively?
Your Nastiness positively...
+tbonevideos23 Those people are called feminists.
+Chihiro K yeah most of them were the ones leading the charge that anyone that was dissapointed in the trailer were sexists.
When i read rant my first thought was "oh, he didn't like it."
Same here. I didn't think he was going to be so chill xD
Phelous is always super chill when he does these kinds of videos, it's hilarious. His rants are so calm and collected and his reviews are insane...maybe he did it intentionally as another meta joke ;-)
For him, "rant" just means talking about something for an extended period of time without use of a script or editing.
+Ally Gator Animator oh phelous never change
I wasn't determined to hate this movie, but since the studio's marketing strategy has been "If you're not 100% interested in this film you're a mysogynist asshole" I made the decision not to watch it. I don't care about the film's quality, it could be amazing and I still wouldn't go, because screw them, I don't need to take insults from them.
there hypocrisy makes it worse.
Just like with TMNT 2014, I really hope this gets a proper Phelous video treatment
The problem this movie seems to have in a nutshell: They have Charles Dance in the movie - yet NOT as the main sinister straight evil villain playing off on the "goofiness" of the main chars...
Yea they have him in a role anyone could have played. Could have been Samuel L Jackson still wouldn't have been any different.
The thing about modern feminists is that they don't actually care. They just want to be victims, and be rewarded for that victimisation.
Only if you think tumblr is a valid representation of any entire group.
mokinokaro A good portion of feminists are SJWs or just radicals.
SJW has become such a meaningless term nowadays. It's literally a blanket term for "people I disagree with" and probably should just be thrown out.
And no, most feminists are not radicals. Because most feminists aren't the types you see crying to the media or posting ridiculous stuff online. We have another term for those, "attention seekers" or, if you prefer, "tumblrinas"
They're professional victims, not actual activists.
mokinokaro I said good portion. Not most. I know the difference between actual feminists and radicals, or as you put it: "tumblrinas".
Been waiting for the only Ghostbusters 2016 review that matters.
I loved how they integrated the no ghost, and the fact that they animated it sorta like the original opening for the Real ghost Busters was really nice, but after they cameoed the Stay Puff Marshmallow man even I wondered why they essentially copied that scene from the first movie
What did Krang think of the movie?
you can tell by his face.
He's yet to recover from the experience.
It looks like he's shrugging, so I assume he didn't hate it, but didn't really like it either.
How amazingly LAZY can you GET?!";)
************************************************************************************
Man, Casper and MY GIRL were way better Ghostbusters movies than this could ever be! Both of them look and feel natural, have a lot of emotion as well as funny moments, everyone has great chemistry, the messages about selflessness, growing up, loss, and understanding each other are done very well, and the characters are so normal and flawed just trying to get through life:)
My Girl has Dan as an undertaker, HIS kind of writing, AND Vada as a great Junior Buster nailing the right personality and subtle humor who's VERY believable as his daughter obsessed with death because she's scared of it. CASPER not only has a Ray cameo and the same kind of writing BUT Dr. Harvey is SO much like Egon I have a hard time believing he wasn't supposed to be him all along, Kat is ANOTHER great Junior Buster who definitely says the things that Egon's daughter WOULD say to him, and Casper and The Ghostly Trio--nuff said;)
Carrigan is a great villain and Vada's friction with Shelly until she finally gives her a real chance is so good, and the best parts of both are the slow quiet times when the characters are simply sitting around talking together:) Not to mention Vada and Kat are dealing with the loss of their mothers in their own ways and Harry and James have their own problems because of that.
Phelous looks so uncomfortable being forced to talk about the controversy in the beginning for 2 minutes.
I shall fart upon all who loves Ghostbusters 2016...
Is it just me or does it seem like Phelous has lost more weight?
Phelous needs to review this movie
Damn Phelous, you lost a lot a weight. Good on you.
Phelous is there a playlist for these laid back reviews/Rant's?
I'm going to see it tomorrow. I was already apprehensive. And you guys don't make me feel any better about the movie. LOL
I would say don't go simply on the fact that "meh" shouldn't be the standard that makes people money, much less with a name as big as ghostbusters.
Technically, AVGN is the expert, but he refused to even go see it....
I have never watched this movie and I never will.
I remember owning that haunted toilet as a child.
This comment is amazing without context.
My dad has one still in the box...
does Phelous have a P.O. box? I have like 4 good times movies to send him i've had since I was like 6.
For some reason, I'd had it in my head that this film was going to take place in Los Angeles.
OMG were did you get that Utrom I want it !!!
You deserve more subscribers
is Phelous gay now?
It's this weird thing called having friends.
I would turn gay for Krang
+Phelan “Phelous” Porteous I guess having friends is gay now, I had no idea.
KKKKKKKKKK TROLLED LIVE
Well you don't got skills bruh but you sure must be salty now. 😄
The movie should have been one hour and fifty seven minutes shorter.
Never made at all, you mean?
The movie was wet because it was completely useless
Nice to see some clear and good criticism about the movie, instead of "It sucks!!", though, I haven't seen Linkara's vlog about it yet... :-P
A "new and improved DX" joke. In 2016. THIS is the movie Sony decided to die on the hill and call all its critics misogynists for?!
I want someone to look at me the way phelan looks at tomas
Is that a kang on the left, where'd you get it? I want one
He gets a lot of his stuff from eBay.
The outside the frame effects were for the 3d version so it looked like the ghost was exiting the film.
The opening is the "Firehouse" theme from the first Ghostbusters film, which was the recurring theme for the first film.
Oh no! The Ghostbusters got wet from the ectoplasm! They're completely useless now!
the yt comments about this film are cancer
"Ghostbusters" 2016, it's okay. I bet that ends up on the blu ray box. :)
No its not okay... "It exists..." Thats what it should say
Akaito Shion Surely the very act of holding the box in your hand would prove it exists therefore there wouldn't be any need to put that on the box
Then again I've seen stuff just as plainly obvious written on boxes before.
This was a good review and I enjoyed it. I think I generally liked the movie more than you guys but your critiques were fair and reasonable.
When your off the cuff, ad-libbed remarks are funnier than a multi-million dollar comedy, there's a problem.
Great job with the rant on a film that was so awful it should be contained in a storage facility in order to protect the public from how bad it is.
PHELOUS!
THE GREATEST MOVIE REVIEWER!
Phelous gets really camp around other men in these flaccid 'rants'. Always makes me laugh how different his edited persona on here is, compared to his unscripted videos.
I want Phelous to review The Nutshack.
As I'm waiting for a review on one of the worst remakes yet,
Im watching an ad FOR YET ANOTHER REMAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last time I went to the theater was in 2012 too see Rush (which is a great movie) befroe that it was 2010 to see the ANOES remake that sucked balls.
Is the guy on the left Joel?!
Harold Ramos's son cameoed in the first capture scene as on of the rocker fans.
Right now, this movie is has a higher rating than RoboCop 3 on imdb
that's...not really an achievement XD
The reason there was fear of this "killing the original" was that it would replace any chance of a sequel with the original cast.
However, happily... this movie was SO poorly received that we are getting Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Which looks promising! Hope it follows through.
There's something that hardly anyone seems to bring up! Up until 2014, people were still anticipating a follow up to the originals. This movie seemed to temporarily kill that hope.
@@bubbythebear6891 That's quite true. As a result, it seemed like only despising this movie could revive the original. And hey, it worked!
Too bad this movie is too meh for Phelan to do a proper Phelous review.
I like that Krang
i like how one of them has a more realistic ghost busters shirt and the other one looks like the cartoon. I'm small so i snuck into the threatre to see the movie when it came out and almost the entire threatre was empty expect for a couple of people.
Wow first review I've seen, in which Hemsworth isn't praised.
6:48 There was a script?
Actually,I heard most of the movie was improvised.
Phelous can you review DragonBall Evolution and The Last Airbender.
Captain Imagination
Not sure if he’d do Last Airbender, since AFAIK he never watched the show, but I’d love to see him take on DBEvolution!
Ware can I get that Krang in the back?
Glad to see you and Mathew Buck are judging this solely on being a movie.
Well, to be fair on the Fall Out Boy Song...the original Ghost Busters theme was plagiarized from "I Want a New Drug".
Maybe the effects bleed into the letterbox to enhance the 3D effect in the 3D version showing.
I'm not supporting garbage period!
This movie is a GHOST SANDWICH.
Damn, haven't seen you in ages.... ''Is that ok ?''
:D
"As a matter of Fact, It isn't."
The ad before this (for me) was of the new Ghostbusters movie....
I hate this movie because I have a deep hatred for Melissa McCarthy. She is the female version of Kevin James, everything she touches turns to shit.
I too hate Melissa mcarthy because her humour seems to be a retread of 'it's a fat person doing the joke' thing
And they fucking gave her (or she adlibbed)
"That's gonna leave a mark".
Not challenging your hate, just sharing my own disappointment.
Who's Kevin James?
***** the fat guy in the adam sandler movies he was also paul blart
These reboots are not really a big deal, no one remembers them after a few years, but the originals live on. Remember the judge dredd reboot? No. Exactly.
I think you misspelled "Robocop reboot". Dredd was fucking great, even if it kinda was a Raid knock-off.
John Doe Yeah and it was so extreme on both sides.
so if its like planet of the apes the tim burton edition then we still have a chance it will get a reboot and maybe well get a slightly better one
"The Ghost & Ms. Chicken"
Krang looks like he has something to say about this movie but he can’t quite get the phrasing right
Considering Hemsworth seems to be in a LOT of films nowadays I'm not sure if he's A, a passionate actor, (one who enjoys acting and will take...almost any role), B, is under contract to do a lot of roles, or C, is living pay-check to pay-check...which would be a little weird considering how popular he is as THOR.
