    Ernie Hudson was not included on the original theatrical poster, because he was a nobody actor at the time. Nobody knew who he was, and his character showed up in the second half of the movie.
    But with Ghostbusters II, Winston is actually the very first Ghostbuster you see on screen (suited up as well) after the Dana Barret scene. Weird that he was not included on the DVD box for that movie.

    • @BloodrealmX

    • @schtive81
      @schtive81 Před 6 lety +6

      The top billings would have been Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigorney Weaver , Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis. After that Ernie Hudson would have probably gotten sixth or seventh billing (possibly behind Annie Potts?). That's probably why the studio didn't want him on the poster. But I agree, that he should have been there.

  • @LokiDuck
    @LokiDuck Před 6 lety +3

    I actually grew up in a Laserdisc household because my dad hated Video tapes despite being video editor (For reference I was born in 1990). We even had a laser disc player that flipped the disc like you mentioned.
    The main problem with laser discs is that they would rot over time and could be scratched pretty easily but we used them up until dvd became more common.

    • @LokiDuck

    I’m a huge fan of the movies and the video game with the voice actors. It is one of the best realistic comedy-horror movies ever made. At least once a year or so, I reference them and almost always whenever I go into NYC, I jokingly think of the “Gozer” building and visiting the Hook and Ladder 8 firehouse makes me smile. The fact that they have a painted symbol outside the building and one of the original second movie signs hung up on their wall just brings a smile to the face. They seem to have a great sense of humor and humility and the fact that they are true heroes fighting fires and trying to save lives is the best.

  • @U014B

    WELL, ACKCHUALLY, in 1985 the exchange rate for Yen to US Dollars was 238:1, so that VHD really only cost about $32.77. Still, that's in 1985 dollars, so, adjusted for inflation, it was worth $75.17.
    Boy howdy, this comment was pointless.

    VCD used to be huge here at flea markets and China Towns. DVD was still new at the time and used to be a luxury item back at the day and VCD was cheaper and easier to afford. The quality of the movies ranged from clear DVD quality to camcorder with crowd noise quality. Some of them were even Chinese dubbed instead of English so you can guess the frustration when we get these versions.

    I did a feature on umd on my channel. I was actually rooting for this format back in the day but let’s be honest, it was only a solution to a temporary problem. Within two years of the umd video launch Sony was releasing high capacity memory sticks capable of holding digital downloads.
    There was also a Blu-Ray re-release you missed, a combo pack of GB1 and GB2 which included some new special features for GB1 and actual special features on the GB2 disc.

    Interesting. Our videos in the UK always came in plastic boxes, much better quality, I have the massive box of Ghostbusters (video store version), a later released version of the same movie in a slightly smaller (Home video) box and then I have double bill plastic box, which is still the same size as home video box, that has both Ghostbusters 1 & 2 on VHS that skips the credits at the end of GB1 and you get a caption stating "5 Years Later," as the scene opens with Sigorney Weaver walking down the street pushing her pram. Both credits appear in sequence after GB2 ends.
    This video was so handy back in the day, as we could just pop the tape in and not concern about fast forwarding etc... Good times _(no, not Goodtimes)_

    As I understand it, laserdisc is a digital encoding of an analog signal, which is probably why it's so big and CD-like. And that early DVDs often had better features because they were ported over from laserdisc versions, and it was quite a while after laserdisc went under before DVDs picked up the slack.

      I remember looking up how much it would cost to import VHS tapes back in the 90s, and they were also about that expensive even back then. Lord, I remember that too! Early 1980s, having a home video format of any kind was considered an exclusive premium thing. The price fluctuated a bit depending on the age and popularity of the movie, but typically VHS was 99.99 and Beta a little higher at 109.99.

    The tape in the Ghostbusters VHS looks awfully short, like it was recorded in SLP/EP mode. I wouldn't expect this from an official release.

      Depending on the part of Canada, they'd either use proton shotguns or proton strongly-worded letters.

    I freakin' love those VHS box pillows you guys have. You should include a link on how to get or make them any time they show up in your features! Hell, you could probably make tons of cash on the side by creating custom ones for your audience. I mean, Lupa could probably make thousands on selling Ginger Snaps pillows alone.

    BataMax? Are they the Prototypes for the VHS? Like Laserdiscs where the Prototype for the DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
    Also, As Oliver Harper said on his Laserdisc collection videos, Laserdiscs do get Laserrot over the years of use.

      VHS and Beta came out less than a year apart, so they existed together in a battle for dominating the market and neither was really a prototype for the other. Technically, the 3/4 inch U-matic cassette was a prototype for both!
      I can't remember exactly what Oliver said, but... Laser rot only happens to a small percentage of Laserdiscs, and it's from age, not use. Weather or not they degrade over time depends on when and where they were manufactured, and weather or not they were stored properly.

    Aha! I'd thought for a long time Ghostbusters was rated PG13, it must have been me seeing it on one of those old VHS copies that made me think that. My copy must have been recorded off of TV or something, I don't remember actually ever seeing the box so I'd never seen the rating on there (and it had scenes missing)

    I remember when I would upload movies and shows to my 3DS Camera. I did this from 2011 to 2016 until I finally bought a touch screen phone. It worked for the time being but I'm glad I didn't stick with the 3DS camera. I had to convert the video, sometimes twice, rename the now-10-minute sections, take the back cover off the 3DS, take out the SD card, stick it in the computer, upload the files on to it, stick it back in the 3DS, and pull up the camera so it could load up what I added. It didn't help that some things I converted would somehow be larger than the original file. The video files were also very bit crushed, like GBA Video but better quality. Cartoons tended to look better than the live action stuff.
    The phone is much better. Rip a disc, upload it to the phone, and it's done.

    Beta is better but VHS was ultimately more cost effective. Guess it's a strong visual reference to compare LDs to CDs but largely better to compare them to LPs instead which are also analog. Wouldn't mind an LD or VHS but the UMD is likely the easiest alternate format one could find easily now. Nice collection. ;)
