I'm sure you've felt a pang of anxiety when holding your phone on a boat or dock; that when you drop it, it's over. But we discovered that there might be some hope. A Vancouver woman's iPhone was rescued 6 months after it plunged into Harrison Lake. All thanks to a local diver and improved ingress protection standards.

Awesome video! Thanks for the mention 👍
u have some rlly good vids
hey I am subscribed!
Love it when some of my favourite channels collide!
hi
Hi
I love how this channel is really open, fresh and not constrained in one studio. The way he interacts with people and shoots the B-rolls, I totally forget that I’m watching a LMG video. Techquickie, SC, LTT, they all give the same vibe, whereas this channel feels like an independent channel owned by Jonathan. Oh also, I really like your interesting video ideas.
Lol profile pic got me XD
totally agreed. it's got the quality of the LMG stuff, but has a completely different feel. im not an apple guy, but i watch to keep up to date on stuff because im the "family repair guy" so it pays off when i know whats going on with hardware that i dont own
@@ghomerhust family repair guy, lol. I know how that feel.
@Joe Lest we forget Anthony
I guess the very broad upload schedule allows them to have more playroom. Most LMG channels have a very tight Upload shedule (LTT daily) and as such usually less time per video compared to the (bi?)weekly schedule of MA
Its still weird to me that this channel simultaneously does and does not feel like an LMG channel, but I like it either way.
Apple users are snowflakes. Linus has this done on purpose to have this channel behave the apple way. The smug way.
Yeah, it is distincly different from LTT videos. So refreshing.
this comment was stolen from another video made by this guy, he’s just like farming
@@Reclinesmc Who stole what now?
@@NishantSoniTV Why are you here then?
Thanks for the interview guy! awesome experience. Shame the two phones you where not able to return, but that does happen.
Hi
amazing how different MA feels compared to the other linus channels
same high quality, very different feel. i dig it
It’s very Vice level quality - reminds me of Taj’s videos. It’s great stuff
Feels how an “apple” Channel should.
Because they take time to make a Mac Address video, unlike other LTT channels.
@@NuryPPanaligan Mac Address doesn't have to be on a daily upload schedule, and even if it had to, it physically couldn't be. When you restrict a channel to one specific thing there are bound to be a lot less videos overall. I'd argue that these have the same high quality that other LMG videos have, only difference is that these leave the office a lot more. An LTT video is almost always on a single set, with a single host, rarely more than that.
Her smile is so contagious I couldn't stop smiling whenever she came up.
Yeah I’m straight simping for her lol

I laughed much more than I should reading this comment hahahahha
I lost my Apple Watch at the lake the other day, this hits a little close to home. I ended up renting some scuba gear to try and find it but no luck.
awe that's too bad. maybe it's worth a shot again, or talking to someone who does what clayton does, maybe they could help you out
it is often a lot harder than people think, a couple factors include bottom composition if its soft items sink into it. and knowing the exact drop location can be hard especially if your in open water.
Try contacting channels like DALLMYD they can help in searching for your device
OH my... tell me about it! Last summer a friend on SHORE dropped an iPhone Xs in Alice lake... an opaquely colored green lake north of Vancouver. It was dropped from the shore near an old tree that had fallen into the water. The combination of murky water, deadfall, and silty bottom meant that it's still there... we searched for an hour.. came back with a super strong sighing magnet a few days later... but nothing.
@@TheNewGreenIsBlue send me a msg on insta, phones probly toast but could be fun to get it back
Jonathan is such a good host and writer, He was the perfect choice for this channel.
I really like how quickly MacAddress found its own style in the group.
These videos are so impeccably crafted, it's uncanny. This, technically and narratively at least, are LMG's very best. Well done.
This channel succeeds in in that “apple” streamlined feel
Aside from the interesting story I found it funny how Clay mentioned the fact that he "never found a non-working GoPro", despite them staying underwater for long periods of time, yet they often randomly break or malfunction when they're outside water 😅
Ikr? I've had more of those things just die doing what they're **supposed** to do, never once had one die due to water. Though a seagull once managed the crack the lens on one, don't know if that counts, wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been _near_ water...
@@W1ldTangent I wouldn't couny the seagull ahah but yeah, you're right! They have so many issues and malfunctioning it's absurd that they just work when left underwater for weeks/months. I follow some Italian motovloggers and every single one of them, at some point, had a video without audio because that expensive, gigantic GoPro mic adapter keeps failing on them randomly
Apple's pretty good at keeping track of Serial IDs. My first thought was to take it in and ask them to message the owner of the device to return it.
thats actually a great idea. just explain you found it in a lake or whatever, and it works and youd like to return it. and let the company make the call, so they can call YOU. that way no privacy breach
Apple won’t disclose any customer data, also means they won’t reach out to customers. Good idea but a dead end.
@@realgoose they just want the person to buy a new one 😅
@@AquaticMonkey I can say with expertise (😉) that this is not the case. There are downsides to holding privacy as a right, this is one example.
Do you know Louis Rossmann? He have a repair shop and one day a guy brought a stolen MacBook. The Police got the Laptop and tried to go to apple so they can find out to who it belongs. Apple just refused to do a shit, even it would be super easy. They just don't care about their customers.
This tech channel has the best quality content I have EVER seen on CZcams!!!!
The highest tier LMG content that isn't an LTT special
“Let’s be real, nobody pays for cell phone insurance”
Me, who does: 😳👀
My old boss was very weird where he'd place his phone, and, oftentimes it would be plugged in but sitting on our stock shelf. So naturally with my workload at that place (and how it would be there constantly). Eventually, something I was told by him to move caught the cable and shattered his iPhone 11 Pro Max Dingus lol. He had Apple Care but never fixed it for some reason, probably because you have to send your phone in the mail and wait 2 weeks with Apple Care. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
TLDR: Phone insurance seems inconvenient even with people who pay, but may be worth the wait time.
You can sign up for a $6-$7 AppleCare plan directly on your new iPhone/iPad in the settings app. idk, I think it’s worth the less than $10 a month asking price. I’ve had it on my iPad Pro 2018 since release day and it’s been great. I didn’t have to worry about taking my iPad to class/library/etc. So nice lol.
@@babydoh7742 kinda too late now but if they would have taken it to an apple store or AASP they could have gotten it fixed within an hour or 2
@@iLikeTrainsXx From my old town where that job was the nearest Apple Store was 3 and a half hours and required appointments to enter the store ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ plus the dude never left the shop only really to sleep
Insurance is scam
Many moons ago I dropped my old blackberry into an adult beverage and that somehow turned the flash on, permanently... Solution, black electrical tape and charge cords everywhere...
Refreshingly broad content, great job team, keep it up!
I remember the first time I heard Linus talk about having an apple focused channel and how great Jonathan did in the interviews. I had now idea what was coming and it blew all my expectations out of the water
Beautiful cinematography! Very much enjoyed this one.
This was really great! Love the open and exploring adventure of the channel. What a story!
Best video yet. Strong work.
This is one of the best, complete channels. LMG's content has matured so much over the years, fantastic team.
The production quality of this channel never fails to impress even though I'm not into Apple stuff
Love that this channel is shot outside!
This channel is so refreshing!
8:13 I wonder how long ago Clayton found that phone, like who doesn't port their number when they get a new phone? That would also mean that they're still paying for that line of service.
a lot of services will just set your new phone on the same number. AT&T does that, as do their subsidiaries like Cricket.
@@ghomerhust Pretty sure the old phone wouldn’t ring anymore then.
Judging by the amount of "new phone , text me your numbers" I've seen in my life, lots of people don't port their numbers, or backup/restore their contact lists.
Great story telling and tech video. I used to repair phones, and would have never guessed that the phone would have worked after 6 months.
This channel is quickly becoming my favourite Apple related channel on CZcams.
The production value is through the roof but the content is just entertaining!
Great guy. We need more people like this
I've been watching Aquatic Monkey a little while now, really happy to see him in a video here!
Thank you!
I really like the production style and topics of this new channel, and I've never owned anything apple. Keep up the great work guys.
The content on this channel is always very entertaining and different. Good job 👍
Jonathan: I drop it.
Linus: Finally! A worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
This episode is by far the most interesting content I’ve seen in All Linus Tech Tips Conglomerate of channels so far.
This episode taught everyone:
1- Do not take your phone to a banana boat;
2- Backup your damn data
3- If you know a Scubadiver, you’ll save 1000 USD.
Thank you Jonathan.
Yet my iPhone XS Max got slightly wet for about 10 seconds and straight-up died, and Apple refused to fix or replace it since their warranty doesn't cover liquid damage. Might've been a fluke, but my bank account didn't enjoy that very much.
Also, this channel is amazing! Jonathan has quickly become one of my favorite LTT crew members.
I love this channel!
Please upload more frequently…
The music in these videos is just phenomenal
This was awesome! I want more!
Given how electronics used to die if you even thought of doing anything moist near them, it's incredible how far we've come along in terms of waterproofing and durability in general
I actually did a lot of sexting when I was young and my phones were just fine, so the THOUGHT of moist things near them didn't really impede on their electrical functionality, despite having no IP rating. FYI. xd
@@mdkooterTMI dawg
Your channel is underrated.
Go ahead.thumbs up for you.
I enjoy the channel, even though I'm not a Mac or iPhone user. Your presentation style has actually gotten me interested in the iPhone side of things. Keep up the good work! I never knew the newer iPhones had IP ratings. I might eventually try one out, all thanks to watching your channel. On the Android side of things, I've been using rugged models like Ulefone, Blackview, Kyocera and (about a decade ago) the Casio Commando.
This is sooo gooood. Great video 👏
Dang-what a great video. LMG is lucky to have found Jonathan.
Best iCloud Ad ever
Thoughtful and interesting video as usual!
my god this production quality is insane
Well it is a lmg channel
@@j0shuaj true but it feels past even LMG quality. tbf though they push out uploads every day on ltt
@@fn0va I think it's also just cause it seems like Jonathan gets a ton of free reign to make his videos, and I'm sure some of the camera guys love doing outdoor shoots, so win-win. Not to mention what you mentioned, which is the time factor. I imagine this type of video was something Linus wanted LMG to do more of, and here we are.
I'm excited for when this channel eventually puts out videos more frequently
If it does put out videos more frequently there would likely be a drop in quality
Great video man!
This is definitely one of CZcams’s best channels.
Now this doesn’t mean you should try swimming with your phone everyone
I know it’s not far from you but I love that you actually drove to the border for like 10 seconds of footage.
I really dig this channel
at camp i threw my phone into a 12 foot deep pool and then dove to get it. i got it in under 15 seconds, and over the course of the week it slowly regained function, with the speakers becoming loud again, the lock button starting to work, and the haptic engine feeling more and more normal. i got lucky, but i’m not doin that again.
P.S. : freaking love this channel. jonathan is such a refreshing host and i really appreciate him. love you jonathan!
This is a doc I didn't know I needed lmaoooo this guy is funny AF
7:41 it is a carrier locked
Lol, does he know 😂
I got Covid and I saw this video and now I feel so much better.
I don’t have a mac and don’t plan to get in the ecosystem but this channel is very captivating
My XS went for a swim in the Margaret River (Western Australia) and survived. Seemed a little janky with phantom screen presses, for the day after but since then it's been perfect and that was a few years back now.
Really cool video idea. Keep it up
The video was really good and interesting, but I think it didn´t perform as well, because you couldn´t see from the thumbnail that it´s a "mac adress" video. The title is a little clickbaity and I for example didn´t click it at first, because I usually don´t trust clickbait from channels I don´t know. If it were clearer who this video was from, I think I would have clicked earlier.
im hooked .
very nice contentss
I sure do hope the people pay the dude who was able to get their phone back to them.
I often get something, case of beer is the most common!
@@AquaticMonkey I was offered leftover pizza.
my galaxy s8 survived and completely working again with no replacement after 2 years of winter and rain in northern sweden but it did have a case no screen protevtor though, it was just laying in the open in the wild
Nexus 5. Took it with me to Hawaii and as far as I can figure out, I stupidly put it on the roof of my rental and drove off. Got back to the hotel and suddenly was like hey where my phone at?
Never found it. Lost all my photos of the snorkeling at the crater island place. Took me years to return and reobtain those photos.
Great video. It’s horrible how much we take our phones for granted, especially once lost. Make backups of backups 😜
i have my google back up turned on, even with my trusty pixel phone, which has survived a LOT of abuse (im a mechanic...)
just wish apple actually did good data recovery service.
older sim cards usually have the number etched into them, but nowadays they dont, so the carrier company can just quickly grab any blank sim and associate the MEID (or smtg) to that phone number when requested, thats why the number doesnt show on the sim reader app
or atleast thats how it is here in Malaysia
Clayton going through that process in order to get people their lost phones back is just one of the most Canadian things i can imagine😂
It's mind blowning to watch a video about a place 15 minutes from home 😮
I love all things in this video, im staying here🙃 nice vdo
I like how her first thought was that it was odd that someone was reaching out to her about her lost phone. My first thought would've instinctively been "Damn! Someone found my phone!" Always gotta watch your back. Good on you. sis.
Directed by Linus, wow. Nice work man
Hahaha finding a kush vape in the lake, love it
I find so many types of vapes!
@@AquaticMonkey ayyy the man himself. Have a great day bro 😄
This video spent 6 minutes on CZcams and I'M ALREADY WATCHING IT!
More great videos!
Was thinking this video felt a bit more like an LTT video
Sees that Linus is Director and Producer
Be careful 😛
that's why they did a video about dropping things....
My friends 1st gen iPhone se got lost in the snow while he was skiing in the winter. He could find it.
6 months later, he got a call from someone, who claimed to find his iPhone. He returned it, and it was fully working.
Sometimes i have to stop the video and like it. Then i watch it till the end
I do have cellphone insurance against theft and it is somewhat common for new flagship smartphones here in Brazil
My old iPhone XR survived flying into the Channel, only problem it had aftermath was the earpiece was messed up so I repaired that. it was all good, then I moved to android a year after that.
My friend drop his iphone 7 in bhasha dam and a diver got it back 6 months later, still working he kept it and called it his lucky phone
I'm from Chicago and have a friend who lost their iPhone X in Lake Michigan.
They never got it back.
I only had my iPhone 7 Plus one week and I dropped in a bucket full of water! Needless to say I panicked and removed it as quickly as possible but the phone was still fully submerged. Thankfully it did not get damaged and still works to this day.
A Huuuuge help is if you disassemble the iPhone or device and clean it thoroughly in an ultrasonic bath then assemble before charging it or turning it own. I would replace the battery as well.
This channel has a weird mix of vibes between Real Life Lore and Kuzergaszt
Just got my first iPhone yesterday:)
The urge to take photos and share them instead of just living the moment for yourself
I lost my Drone in the ocean around Deltaport in BC and contacted PNW Samson and he got it back for me! I also contacted Clay but he wasn't I'm the area at the time
“Dropped my phone 4 months back, but it’s the 12 pro and Clayton’s been looking out!”
My mom dropped her htc once, upset me too because we shared it and was a good phone
5 years ago, when we were 15, my friend dropped his iPhone 7 in a lake in Finland while we were on a school trip. We didn't even know where it happened until I found out I could see my google maps location history. I think it would be awesome to go and retrieve it but it would be a very expensive thing to do for a phone that i assume is broken now.
0:02 phone repair guru fixed that
Bruh!This is like a documentary.
At this point Linus Media Group should just pitch Netflix a docu-series. The quality would not need to be that much higher compared to this and may even make more money.
Commenting on every Mac Address video to show my appreciation towards Mr.Hurst. *Video 11* don’t worry this will catch on someday :’(
I put a wall paper on the lock screen with emergency contact information which can be useful in this situation. Also labeling the back of the phone can help.
Why do I feel that this was an add for iCloud 🤣
This channel seems like an ad for Apple lol
Dude pulled up a dab pen 😂
Clay's "Beach better have my money" is the real hero of this story
I love my shirt!
indeed, I once got a iphone 6s that a girl left in a bathroom sink at a party for a few hours (the iphone 6s is not at all waterproof) she tried putting it in rice for a few days after that it didn't turn on and they asked me if I may have a look at it. so I opened it disassembled it completely and dried it with very hot air because there was still water on and on the logic board and in some places it was beginning to corrode as well. the battery was dead for sure. after I dried it I reassembled it, took a used but working battery and it worked. by drying it i accidentally meltet some solder and that shorts out a capacitor now. the phone works but the battery is being drained consitently due to that short. and the screen has a few drying spots and the flash doesn't work but everything else works :)
