    The iPhone 13 Pro has enough camera features that it might deserve the professional moniker. With three different zoom levels and ProRes codec recording, it might be good enough to replace our video cameras. Well, we rig it up, shoot with it and see what results the phone can give us.

    "Getting the absolute highest quality the phone can give" is actually one of the highest compliments you can offer software. Lots of software does not take full advantage of, or gets in the way of, hardware's full capabilities. Thank you for this real world use case demonstration.

      And sometimes that software is written that way, so that a more expensive product can come out, without the restrictions, but with a premium price tag, something Apple has no need to do in this day-and-age.

    • @YourMJK
      @YourMJK Před 2 lety +1

      Well, it's not exactly true. With ProRes 422 it's still chroma subsampled to 4:2:2.
      To take full advantage of the sensor you'd need 4:4:4. But the phone probably isn't fast enough to write such huge amounts of data, so it's also kinda true.

    • @WorstDeveloper
      @WorstDeveloper Před 2 lety

      @@teg24601 But that's exactly what Apple IS doing. They're known for restricting their devices to create artificial product segmentation.
      The 128GB versions of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max don't offer all the video features that were demoed at the unveiling.
      If you buy the 128GB version then ProRes video is limited to 1080p at 30fps. In order to get the full 4K at 30fps you will need to cough up an extra $100 and buy the 256GB versions.

    Your message notification sound effect at the end had me scratching my head at the wondering why I didn't see any new red dots pop up in the dock... I get random mystery notification sounds on my iPhone sometimes, but NEVER on the Mac(s).
    I'm not keen on the idea of taking video - or even photos - on my iPhone. My small collection of mirrorless Sonys have better looking output by a massive margin and I find the results far easier to manage with memory cards and 3rd party applications. The iPhone is only used for inconsequential images for notetaking or quick communication purposes. If Apple lets me write directly to removable media bypassing photostream/icloud then I'd give it a 2nd look.

    It's amazing to me that Apple puts so much effort into having their devices be able to produce such high quality videos, and yet, when you want to transfer these massive files they have used a port that only supports speeds so low that it takes many hours to transfer. Why do they resist using standard USB C so much?

      But to put it simply, when Apple moved from the 30 pin to the lightning cable a lot of companies were really mad about it, having to now make a new product to fit a different cable slot. Even if it's only minor it's still a huge cost.
      And of course Apple Certified cables, they do generate Apple a fair chunk of income, not enough to cause a hindrance to their income, but enough to say "hmm I DO like this extra bonus so maybe I will keep it"
      Eventually they're gonna have to use USB-C however, I doubt people will support a full wireless system

    • @SamfisherSam
      @SamfisherSam Před rokem +1

      USB C is just a port type after all, you can be USB C and still be stuck at USB 2.0 speeds, which to be fair is what most Android phones do still.

  • @atthelord

    It doesn't look bad. It's just not deceptively put together. For example if you do the long focus pulls and use the gimble to make smooth sweeping transitions, you can stitch together something quite close to what one would expect a normal average youtube video to be. I also don't know if there is now a way to shoot in 24 rather than 30 frames. That too would make a difference. Over all great video and content as always. Cheers!
