Got a used P239 SAS 300 dollars recently... its now my EDC, and I absolutely prefer it over all the micro 9s and polymer framed striker fired pistols on the market today. It shoots, for me personally, like a full sized combat handgun and is easy to carry. I can't ask for much more.

Excellent fantastic price too, it’s an easy one to fall in love with and your comment is spot on , as it was designed to be / have that smaller full size combat handgun feel. I happened to have both the 229 and 225 next to each other and I think the 225 is even closer to a full combat handgun feel. It seems to have defied the physics law b/c it’s smaller but simply doesn’t feel like that when you hold it. Thanks for the comment.

I have a p-239 with the hogue rubber grip and I love the comfort with that grip. Its a great shooter, in fact there was a review on a shooters forum and the guy that wrote the article said it out shoots everything he has including a beretta 92 among others in that category.

I’m glad you like the p239, I do too, I think it’s a very underrated firearm most likely because Sig doesn’t make it anymore so it doesn’t make the short list for folks. I came across a note about the possibility that it was approved for USSS agents as well but very different to confirm that type of info, that stuff tends to be kept face down. Also glad the hogue grips work for you , I’ve just never taken to them but that’s the beautiful thing about choices, we can get to something that works for everyone. I will say the g10 grips are fantastic.

I thought about selling mine adding some cash and buy an HK usp compact, but I don't know if I want to part with it since they don't make them any more. The reviews I read stated that its a battle proven pistol that can take a beating.

Thanks for the comment, a tough call both are great, the Sig is an all metal gun and the HK USP Compact is just fantastic as a polymer gun, I have a review on that as well. I think I’d keep the p239 and just keep an eye out for a used USP , unless you need the specific attributes of the USP over the sig.

@@thedailydefender1408 Thanks for your reply. There is something special about the "all metal" Sigs. Ill probably hang on to it. I had an sp2022, then a 226, 229, and now the 239. All are great and my 226 was a west German made pistol. That one was just smooth as silk and the balance/weight was perfect for that large of a pistol. I regret selling both of those now, so more of a reason to hang on to the 239.

I own a P239 and a W German made 228. They take the same holster. Mine is a Crossbreed. The weights are real close but the 239 is flatter and is easier to conceal. People complain about 8 round magazines but an extra slim magazine is easy to carry 16+1 is plenty. My problem is that Sig no longer supports the 239. Magazines are hard to find but I found 2 extras. Im with you on the Hoage grips. To thick. Took mine off. Now all OEM.

I bought Hoage rubber grips. Good for the range but the extra width destroys the advantage of carrying a single stack pistol. I carry mine so I put the original grips back on. I also have a 228. It is slightly larger than the 225. I’m happy.

Massachusetts State Police Detectives carried these in .40 the 239
I switched my S&W 3913 back to the stock plastic grips. I also use the green glow in the dark paint on my 3rd gens. Painted the sights about 5 years ago and still work today.

Nice comparison of the of the P239 and P225-A1. Also... and maybe you already know this... but it's important to note that the old-school P225 (P6) and the P225-A1 are completely different guns; they share no parts and have nothing in common. In reality, the P225-A1 is simply a "re-skinned" P239 with a slightly longer grip. The OG P225/P6 was a larger pistol overall, with a 3.9" barrel. The P239/P225A1 share the same 3.6" barrel and most other small parts. My guess is they wanted to squeeze a bit more revenue out of the P239 line so they made some superficial tweaks and re-invoked the P225 name to play off the nostalgia. Still... I'd like to try an A1 at some point. I've read that the ergos are great and (as you point out) the grip changes suit a lot of people better than the P239. In any case... thanks for sharing. Love the hammer-fired Sigs.

Hey thanks for a great comment. You make a very good point and I didn’t have the historical side of the original P6 I felt to go deep on that plus I always feel my vids are already long….LOL…but I think your right on the A1 given how it was reintroduced but I will say it’s an excellent SIG and a very nice shooter. I’ve only seen a couple p6 over the past year or two.

@@thedailydefender1408 I love the original P225... I have a 1982 P6 that looks it was barely fired. One my favorites in my collection. But I'll say I shoot the P239 platform better. The little things are scary accurate sometimes. They hang in there with my Browning Hi Power and my P88. But given how much I dig the P239... I'd definitely be curious to try the P225A1. I recently purchased a 9imm p239 and sent it to sig for their SSP service. It includes the xray 3 sights. I'm also planning on buying the hogue g10 grips. I have carried it, but I carry my p224 normally. It shoots very straight, but I have to really watch my right thumb because it tends to hit the pronounced slide lock. I wish that they made it smaller like the legions or the p224. I think my next purchase will be a p225, or a p229c. But yeah, the p239 is a very nice gun. I wish they would have made a p224 style single stack. All they had to do was chop the grip of the p239! I know there's zero market for this gun, but I would buy it haha

Interesting you bring up the p224 as I had one w/o the extended mag and that super short grip drove me a little crazy. Recently held a used one with the extended mag and much better but then seemed almost identical to a 229……alway want to love that 224 just can’t seem to get to a sweet spot with it. You’ve hit the nail on the head with the limited market comment for some of these guns.

@@thedailydefender1408 during SSP service, sig will change out all the pins and springs, and install xray 3 sights for 150 bucks. They frequently pay for shipping if you ask nicely too. They function test the gun slso. I had them bead blast the slide on my p224 to raw stainless steel during an SSP and it was pretty cheap. It looks so good. I have big hands and bought the g10 grips and while the p224 takes some getting used to, I like shooting it. I have the extended mag spacer and a p229 mag and carry it separately, but holster it with the short mag because I appendix carry and it fits snug and the grip doesn't print on my shirt at all. Compared to my p229 the p224 is heavier and smaller. My dream is to send the slide out to be milled for red dot sight, and weight reduction cuts. Google sig SSP service they have a whole web page that explains it.
