    I bought a 239 in 40 for $259 ex police detective pistol. I put nice turkish walnut grips on it. I get compliments on it alot. I own every pistol sig has made except a 250 and 2022. I carry the 239 every once in a while. My daily carry is a custom engraved p210. I like the single stacks, in winter i switch to the x10 or the 229 357 sig. My wife carried a 365 for a bit, i carried an m11 on duty as a CI agent and CID agent in the Army. It had to be fired a couple times unfortunately but i was able to purchase it after being wounded during an ied attack on an O6 in Afghanistan. He was able to get the government to sell me my sidearm after offering me anything i wanted. I could have had anything, i wanted my sig.

    I found a 36-1 3" from the mid 60s with those exact same hideous grips, so I re-shaped them to two finger combat style with the bottom exposed, and no checkering. They turned out to be very comfortable and stylish. It was a big pain in the ass, but worth it.

      It really is a neat firearm, took me a little by surprise after working with it and shooting it, I don’t know why I was thinking it would have a dated feel but it does not. Probably explains why you don’t see many of them I think people just hold on to them.

  • @frankbutta9344
    @frankbutta9344 Před 19 dny

    I think I mentioned that I (is that too many I’s?) own a 469 here before. It was in good shape when purchased, but would randomly stop at the half cock notch. A google search led me to file the half cock notch off, and that solved the problem. The pistol has a firing pin safety, so the half Coke notch was kind of redundant anyway. I bought a S&W 6904 a year ago, and they eliminated the half cock notch from that pistol. Neither pistol has a rail, and that my preference. 👍👍👍👍

      @@joshuahawkins2743 totally agree and there are lots of comments and chatter wishing smith would bring them back, in some form or fashion. From what I understand, the original tooling was all destroyed or trashed, so they would have to start from scratch, and then cost. I doubt they would be a mainstream price pistol or even say what the Sig p series are right now. So is there a market for a $1200- 1500+ pistol of this type, I don’t know…..

      @@thedailydefender1408as a young L.E.O. back in the 80's I also grabbed one of these as soon as they hit the market....S&W & shooters immediately noticed that this Model was inherently more accurate than it's larger cousins and S&W identified the lack of a barrel bushing & new lockup system was the source...so they incorporated those changes into the following generations and by the time they got to the Gen 3's such as the 5906 they had worked out all the bugs and the result was an outstanding pistol...

    I don't know whether I could ever attribute a "lighter-shooting" 40cal H&K USP COMPACT LEM due to the recoil-reducing 2-spring system H&K employs on the full size USP 40cal. The COMPACT USP has a single spring with a nylon "stop" ( to save the frame from damage. )

    By mere dint of the name "combat magnum" should infer the gun is capable of combat with magnum. Albeit easier and convenient that 38 loads fit and more cozy, the reason for modern upgrades is to ensure it is actually "combat and magnum" capable for the most heinous loads. I understand the harkening to vintage style and sentiments, but there are 38s available that take even +P including vintage guns that don't boast "combat or magnum" as a selling point. I'd be cautious to find that one just the next magnum load would be the one that cracks the forcing cone and a world of hurt after.

    Smith & Wesson originally made the M&P as a four-screw model. All in the side plate. The fifth screw was added in 1905 (trigger guard). The top side plate screw was phased out in 1955, and the trigger guard screw was eliminated in 1962.

  • @calvinhandley2373

    When the Model numbers came in to existence in 1957, they did not replace the model name. The model numbers were in addition to the name. Your 10-5 was marketed as a “Model 10 .38 Military & Police”. The Model 28 continued to be called the “Highway Patrolman”, the Model 36 continued to be called the “Chief’s Special”, etc… It continued to be called the M&P until it became part of the “Classic Series” by which time the “M&P” label was being used on semi-auto pistols and AR-15 platform models. Your 13-1 is correctly referred to as a “.357 Military & Police”.

    I agree that a .38 Special revolver (mine is a S&W Model 10-8) is a fine gun. Fun to shoot and accurate; love that trigger. My other revolvers are a 19-3 and a 29-2, all in 4" barrels. Great guns, all.

    Given that the other S&W Top breaks were not called lemon squeezers pretty much zeroes in on the grip safety feature being the reason for the nick name. Thanks for the review. I'm looking at one of these to purchase right now - $275 - it's a blued one with an even patina and vg original grips. They're not showing the bore but I would expect it to be somewhat worn as the 32 S&W was a black powder cartridge at the time... I used to own one of these previously and I let it get away but it shot hollow based wad cutter bullet loads pretty well. These things are quite dainty in 32. I think the 38 S&W models are a bit bigger? A pocket gun really. Thanks for the review!

      Thanks for a great comment and good points. I find them kind of fascinating from a historical perspective on a number of different levels. You mentioned pocket gun, I think they did actually refer to these , and even some of the slightly smaller ones, as vest pocket guns given the three piece suit of the day. I could see the pistol in one pocket and a chain watch in the other back in that time period…
