- A tabletop review of the Sig Sauer P239 SAS. This is my favorite carry gun of all time, and I am going to try and explain why.

#sigsauer #semiauto #carryrgun #9mmsigsauer #sigsauerp239sas p239, best carry gun, top concealed carry pistol, best sig carry gun, top carry pistol.
I’ve had my P239 .40 for 18 years…still reliable never a malfunction and easy to carry. Amen to this video.
Just got my p239 recently. Everything that people have reviewed about this gun is 100%. I personally like the added weight, I think that is part of what makes it shoot better. It also just feels more like an extension of my arm than anything else. The most important factor to me, though, is to have a gun fire when its supposed to, and the p239 is as good as it gets when it comes to dependability.
Carry every day since 84. Finally got a off duty in 2008. P239 SAS stainless w/ the short reset & added stainless grips. Never, ever looked back. Love my SAS. So accurate, so sweet in my hand. And you are so right about the Double/Single action..Go to single with the 3.5 pound break & a whisper of a recoil? My sword forever. Thank you for the thoughts
never understood hating ANY quality pistols. I love them all, the HKs, Sigs, Glocks, Czs, Berettas, Walthers and many others. And even though the venerable 45 is not my bestest (sic) caliber I still own a Para Ordnance P14-45 which is accurate, reliable and very handsome!
Agree on all counts. Have other really good carry options, but find the P239 SAS in 357 Sig on my hip more than any other. The pistol is a joy to shoot, accurate, dependable, and brings the heat. Yes, there are smaller options, options with higher capacities, etc., but none are better, IMHO.
I just snapped this up in .357.
Bought gen 3,33 Glock because of the ballistics ofthat caliber.was early .Was just starting interest inhandguns. I haven’t cared much for Glock or 357sig because of that. I want to revisit the round. This looks like a good place to start. Y’all enjoy
Great video and so true! I have a number of other pistols including H&K etc. but my 239 is still my favorite! You said it all In one statement "it has never let me down"!!!
You are absolutely correct about this pistol 100% reliable
I definitely agree that a DA/SA is a great carry gun. And Sig is about as good as they get.
I have a 239 9mm and that’s my warm weather gun. In the fall I carry a p226 so the shooting is near identical. It’s super accurate and has never had a malfunction.
What is different if it is marked SIG Custom Shop, P239 SAS in 9mm but up front fight side of slide marked SIG Saure Custom Shop, what is has that the rest don't?
I bought a LIKE NEW P239 .40 S&W yesterday at a gun show for $475 OTD. It came with (2) mags, BRIGHT SigLites, case, and papers. I'm VERY happy. 😊
Yes DEFINITELY SIG SAUER BRING THE 239 BACK
+1 on the Hogue grips. Got the OD, she’s ready to dance.
This particular pistol, the P239 in 40 S&W has been one of my favorites for years. The one that comes a very close second and at times equal to it is the HK USP Compact V1 40 S&W. I do go round and round trying to decide which one actually suits my needs better. Several reasons I value the HK a little more at times is it still enjoys support from HK since they're in current production. Also they tend to be used more in the military and police services around the world so they're well tested. They're rugged and have a higher capacity, plus the HK HE treatment is simply awesome and polymer is more forgiving appearance wise when it gets banged around. I think the HK barrel with polygonal rifling is hard to beat, even by SIG.
Yet with all of this I keep circling back to the P239. It too is rugged and I actually like the heft when you hold it (you can pistol whip someone with your RUGER LCP if you want, I'll take the SIG). I love the simplicity of the P239 instead of HK's V-1 through V-whatever, just point and shoot; much better than the "staple-gun trigger" of the HK (reviewer Colion Noir's word's). The smooth decocker is better than the snappy one on the HK. Yeah I know it's not going to go bang but who needs to decock at lightning speed? The Nitron finish is very durable, but honestly I like a little holster wear on the slide. I do wish the anodized aluminum finish would hold up better though; I've had actual chips in the finish on several of my P239's. Now here's one area that's iffy on the SIG's; slide to frame fit. Every P239 that I've had that was made in the USA has had a terrible fit. I actually just sold an unfired US made P229R ELITE TALO that rattled like a WWII 1911. It was terrible, so I'm not a fan of new SIG's. Now the German made frame P239 is a different story, they've all been tight as drums and have had that great German made feel so I'm a fan of these. As far as spare parts go I've readily found spring kits on eBay that are reasonably priced. I believe all or most of the frame springs (trigger return, decocker, mainspring, etc.) are interchangeable with other SIG P series pistols, and the elusive recoil spring is actually the same one used by the Sig Pro SP2022, SP2009, SP2340, SIG P250SC 357/40, and the all metal SIG P245. The OEM part number is 1200977-R and is sold at Midway USA for $15.99. OK, for the magazines, I'm not sure where the OP is getting his price for P239 mags (maybe it's 9mm he's talking about), but 40 S&W mags are going for over $90 and that's crazy. Worse yet is that SIG doesn't stock them and there are no aftermarket options available. Very bad on SIG's end for not supporting a pistol that just ceased production with virtually zero notice. As far as holsters go that's never been an issue, they're everywhere.
I really enjoyed the review. I too wish these were still made or at least imported (best option I think). People can have their microscopic pistols if they want them, just don't forget to strap them down in your holster so a gust of wind doesn't blow them away. As the great Clint Smith said, "pistols are supposed to be comforting, not comfortable." Personally, I don't want to forget I'm carrying one, and since Texas is an open carry state, I don't want other people to forget I'm carrying one either.
My mid '97/S4 prefix serialized .40 p239 is miles ahead of my late '17 9mm p239 in fit (hard to say on finish, the 9mm is still young). You're the first person I've seen address this though, so cheers.
My '13 p229 elite rattles less than the 9mm p239, but only just. I'm currently hunting for an earlier p229.
I just bought this gun used in near mint condition. It is gorgeous.
I've got two of 'em, both SAS models in 9mm. Love 'em. Carry with a spare mag, and that's 16+1. Agree, Sig should bring back the P239, but they probably won't. Everyone is into polymer lighter weight high cap these days.
?? M.j
It's an excellent multi-caliber platform as well: 3 barrels, one gun. The mags are also more flexible than their markings would indicate.
Excellent review..I also carry mine in a Sticky Holster for your exact reasoning!
I’ve had my P239 since 2008, still carry it everyday. Also got a W German P225 that I’ve had since 1988, don’t carry this beauty but it’s a awesome shooter too!
I have the exact same model and absolutely love it. As far as I can remember I've never had a malfunction either. The fit and finish is out of this world. Just recently realized they discontinued it which is unfortunate for everyone. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing. I truly believe that the P239 is one of the best pistols ever made, and I stand by that. I wish SIG would feel sorry for me and make more. Thanks for watching!
I owned a 357 Sig version for several years. It is fun to shoot and has never had a misfire. It's heavy but that is what I like.
I could not agree more. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been carrying Sig Sauer handguns since 1983 and this is my favorite conceal carry weapon period
I've had my P239 for over 14 years, I also bought at the time 4 extra mags 2 of which are 10 shot, and it's my understanding that Sig no longer makes P239 mags..anyway mine is in 9mm and was made to very tight tolerances, no slop what so ever and I keep the rails well lubed up with slide glide, I also put a set of Hogue rubber grips with the finger groves and is very comfortable to shoot.
A great pistol. Probably my all time favorite. It’s a shame they stopped making it and the mags as well. I have several P239s and a lot of mags. I find them at my local shop from time to time. Thanks for watching!
I might be mistaken but don’t the new p225 A1 mags fit a p239?
I've owned one for about a year but have yet to shoot it, it does seem to have a bit of a wobble or looseness to the slide. I doubt it affects anything but I haven't shot it yet so I don't know. I found it at a good price and couldn't pass it up regardless.
@@jw-sigp2258 They do not. The tolerances are different.
@@TheGunnyBadger03xx Thats a shame.
I've owned a P239 (non SAS) in 357 Sig for 20 years. I bought it right after 9/11 because I wanted something concealable. It was fairly pricey at the time, I think $1100 with a holster, but I traded my S&W 686-8 in for part of it, because that is not concealable at all. I think I got $400 for it in credit at the time. Love this gun. I bought it simply on feel in my hands, I had no brand preference at the time, but I tried the Glocks and didn't care for them. This one feels good. I dont see the need for the Hogue grips on this one, but I did put them on my 686-8 and it was a game changer for the stock walnut grips on that lopsided gun. Totally with you on the SA/DA thing. Best ever. Can keep chambered and ready to fire with a dropped hammer which means it will go off only if you really mean it. Honestly, pulling the trigger back before firing is just cowboy stuff. Not necessary.
Have a 365xl but prefer the d/s decock.love revolvers for that matter. Rounder shape Blends in very nicely & comfortable too.
Great review! I love my p239 sas. Purchased about 10 8 round mags and 2 10 round mags. I cycle it in my daily carry routine.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely !! ....If it aint broke... Bring it back !!
Well said I have one got it when I retired from law enforcement & I carried a sig p226 very like . I disagree with people who think they need more capacity because every round that comes out of your gun you are responsible for . If you need more rounds your dead any way.
I could not agree more. My viewpoint is that if I can't get out of trouble with 9 rounds of ammo, maybe I'm not supposed to.
I have a P239 that I picked up right before they stopped making them. It has been sitting in my gun safe since I bought it, but now it is going to the range for sure.
Bring it back for me also, great firearm. I have the 239 tactical with threaded barrel. I love this gun
I love mine it’s a 40 caliber stainless top-slide, trigger, hammer, decocker, slide release, frame pin and grip screws she is so Beautiful and shoots as good as she looks! ❤️👌❤️
Is it OK for sale in California
My favorite also, no malfunctions, I sometimes just stare in awe. Also have the SAS with hogue aluminum flat black grips they are the best. I have been looking for another to pickup.
I am fortunate to live in an area with 4 really good local gun shops within 20 minutes of each other. Every time I go into one of them I look at their used gun sections for one. I picked up a 9mm version a few months back that had never been fired for half the original price. Good luck in your search and thanks for watching!
Great review... I'm also a fan of the P239 and it is what I carry always.... But all mine have Crimson Trace Laser grips on them. Sig will never go back... too many folks want small plastic guns with a striker fired trigger.... but that's okay, I'll stick with 'old school'.
I agree 👍 💯 Bring it back 😊❤
Great video and this is still a wonderful pistol..
Greetings from Kentucky...I've had my Sig P239 SAS for over 10 years and I've carried it owb from time to time. It is absolutely one of the finest 9mm handguns I've owned.
I too agree on all counts.
P239 sas gen 2, 9mm in a Milt Sparks Versa Max... EDC... factory grips for me... the rubber grips do not allow thin summer shirts fall naturally, getting hung up/printing and I cannot bring myself to drop $100+ on G10's or aluminum.
Yes, Sig needs to bring back this classic pistol.
Yes, I'd like to own this also. Unfortunately, they are not made anymore and they are difficult if not impossible to find. I've been looking for the P239 in 40 cal for at least a year. No luck, so far. And yes, Bring This Model Back!!!
Love mine. No big round count but it still beats my p229
I recently Got a P 239 Black Stainless with very few rounds down the pipe. 9mm [ I am A .45ACP fan] She is fantastic . I'll put her up against any thing plastic. Oh NY you can only have a total of 10 rounds.
Thanks SIG
I currently have the same gun, but in 357 sig caliber.
My P239 SAS 357sig comes with 8 round + 1 OEM Sig magazine and a 7+1 flushed mag.
I don’t need all that crap for my concealed carry I need quality
Reliability and a proven record
Of excellence
And that’s what the P239 SAS gives me
I’m buying one tomorrow. Great review you convince me.
Hope you enjoy it!
How much?
Yes, bring it back. It is the size, not the weight, of a 365 Macro. Good luck getting SIG to listen. DA/SA beats striker fire any day. No reason a new version could not have a 1 1/2 stack and carry 12 in 9mm.
That is a master piece, those who feel a need for a big capacity magazine to finish the job need to learn to shoot accurately.
I just rediscovered this gun and now I want it. It's still on that stoooopid CA roster. SIG are you listening?
Great review. I share your opinions on the P239. Yes--the contemporary crop of single stacks are lighter, smaller and often carry more ammunition... and give you rock-solid 8-inch groups at 5 yards, about 3 inches left of your POA. Your targets speak for themselves; I get similar results with my P239s. Even with my DAK .357 (DAK is not bad in the P239 platform--worth checking out). Unfortunately, I don't think "soft" benefits (like superior shootability) sell as well as tangible features like... more rounds, less weight, etc. In any case... yes, Sig, bring back the P239. And the P245. And the 9mm P220. And DAK.
Everything you said, except DAK 😉
For me it's a matter of practicality, I can carry a sig 365 which is smaller lighter has more capacity and will cost less. Still a pretty gun, it just seems more appropriate for a collection than for carry.
I had a 239 SAS. Nice gun. Only issue I had with it was the squared off front grip strap. I just didn't get along with that feel. Just picked up a new 225A1. This seems to blend the best of the 225 and 239 together fixing any issues I had. 239 is a good pistol if it fits you.
That squared off front strap does feel a little weird, doesn't it? I've ended up putting HOGUE rubberized grips with the finger grooves on all of my P239 pistols. That worked great for me but I know not everyone is a fan of those. The new P225A1 looks great, too bad the old P225 mags don't work in them. Bad idea on SIG's end.
I love this gun. It was my first purchase right after I got my permit =) I have the 40 cal, it is so accurate n definitely going to keep it forever
One of the very best.
It was my first as well but I got the 9 mm.
a new version of p239 that uses p365 magazines would great! likewise, a new p938 version that takes p365 magazines would be nice too.
No problem getting inexpensive 8 round mags. The ten rounders are now over $100 on eBay.
I have an in between model. Part German, part USA. I've put so many thousands of rounds through it in 40S&W that the barrel is shiny with no coating left, and the frame rails are as well. I've only changed the recoil spring once only because it was getting snappy. Never malfunctioned. Had to replace magazine springs as well. It shoots just as easy as my bigger 229R in 40. They truly are fantastic pistols, and handle bigger calibers really well
Can you tell me where you got the replacement mag spring? I’d like to get some for my p239 .40.
@@ek8652 I picked them up a year before it was discontinued from topgunsupply.com. I'm not sure they have much left of anything for the p239 anymore.
Better than a wheel gun
A civil gun figh in a self defence situation is a total other thing as if LEO have gun fight. They will have to get and fight a guy untill he is down or surrender. As a civilian after a few shots the aggressor is down or run away. Here is where the situation splits. A LEO now would chace him and the gun fight will go on. But anyhow, if your read the comments the people are mad for capacity. I dont think that this model will come back. Its history like the 232 which is also discontinued.
Bought one two years ago for a crazy low price, two tone and in .40, and it has become my EDC. Am i limited? If i cant get the fight over with 8 rounds of .40, i probably should have brought an AR.
Still one of my favorite carry guns of all time. I agree 100% about the capacity issue.
The capacity people should shoot a P239 and their handgun in a supervised training setting.
I still make do with my P228. I find it to be the best of all worlds. I do think it would be nice if they could come up with a P228 style pistol that was just a bit taller n maybe widen it so u can still allow double stacks n yup u can get double stack mags for a p228 they just crown to a single at the top.
The M11-A1 is really close to a new iteration of the P228. No rail so it's good for carry. Oddly they come with P228 grips. I guess SIG had a bunch of the old grips sitting around. Shoots almost as well as a 1994 Kiel P228.
Quote “ I have several unfired just to make sure I’ll always have one”. Do you have a sister?😄
Lol.
Great review, I love my p239. Do you mind sharing the websites you found that had magazines available? I'm having trouble locating additional magazines. Thanks
I have a 239 in 9mm, found that the magazines for the P225 A1 will fit the 239. The only difference is the 225 A1 magazine's bottom base plate is configured differently and sticks out a little lower, otherwise magazines are identical.
I think gun mag warehouse has them from time to time and sig will have once in a while i think i called them
cool
Never shot one but would like to. Think 9 is plenty too. Especially like that it doesn’t have rails and optic plates that I personally don’t want. Thx
I just found one second hand, made in Germany in 2008. Found it looking for another hammer-fired carry gun. I was able to find some mags and even a spare parts kit. The biggest problem is finding a good holster. Bottom line, I trust the old-style metal Sigs but I do not trust QA on the striker models like the 365/320.
If you haven’t found a good holster yet try DelFatti leather works.
And if ur still looking, Aker holsters for OWB carry.
The holsters for the 229 work.
Do you know about the ones that are marked up front on the right side SIG Custom or something like that ? it is in the car & I am in the BR.>> Where is a good place to get the Hough Grips ?
I did the same thing, I bought a backup P239 in 9mm in case I shoot the P239 into submission someday.
Sig should at least carry the internal replacement parts.
I have been able to locate a few parts here and there, but not much. Basically every time I find a P239 in the shop I buy it, and I will continue doing that.
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel Same here. It’s ok be if the best damn CCW firearms out there.
I sold off my CZ P-01 to make the change about a year before Sig 86’d the P239. The CZ was a good gun, the 239 is better ergonomically for me as a carry piece.
Capacity? I live in Cali where 10 is the max so it’s not a big negative in this state.
Back again. Like this gun more every time I see one. Read some comments below & learned some more. .will keep my eyes open for one. I can look it up but does anyone know how to determine production years of sigs from serial numbers? Thx
I have a pair of 239's and they are my favorite guns, hands down. Which Hogue grip is shown here?
www.hogueinc.com/grips/sig-sauer-grips/p239/dasa/sig-sauer-p239-checkered-g10-black
Get some grease on those slide rails ! Lol. 😊
What this gun lacks in capacity it makes up for with accuracy. Also it is so well crafted. It really puts polymer guns to shame.
Yes...yes it does.
You might want to compare this to the P225-A1.
The profit margin for Sig on the P239 was the reason it was discontinued by the manufacturer. Sorry. It’s all about economics in this era...
Couldn’t find this so I got 224 with a pinky extension.
I have attempted to locate a P239 SAS in 9mm for several months but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sir: at what position do you wear your “Sticky” holster? 3 0’clock? RSVP, thank you
When I use a sticky, I carry slightly back from 3:00. More like 3:30. Works well for me.
I can't find any Sig P239 factory oem magazines for less than $70 used on ebay. Every place I look for new ones it says "out of stock" or "discontinued".
That too is my experience.
@@douglassmith3901 see my comment above ....magazines for the P225 A1 will fit the 239.
I can't remember where I found them online, but back in april or may I found p239 mags for both the .40 and .357 sig for I believe $45-55.
I'd been looking for a 9mm p239 for awhile, and luckily when one popped up for sale locally it came with five magazines.
Fat on government contracts, Sig isn't bringing anything back, they seem to discontinue models at a worrying rate, they've done all they could to kill off 357 Sig, and they even stopped making spares for models they still produce (for the moment, P238/938).
At the moment they have no single model in 357 Sig or 40 S&W.
I love this gun and own two of them and also several P225's. However it's not fiscally responsible to resume production of this model when there are guns like the S&W Shield in production. The P239 is more of an aficionado gun now, sadly.
I would buy this gun again brand new if they ever made it. It's just that perfect a fit for me.
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel Well so would I in fact I'm eyeing a like new one on gun broker right now. But we are p239 aficionados.
the California Roster says the P239 SAS two tone 40 S&W is OK. Anyone know if that applies if it is a GEN 2
Yes it is approved. The details don’t matter as long as it’s the two tone SAS version in .40.
@@JosephMorin Thanks I purchased it, CA approved it and I love it.
@@JosephMorin I even found a scarce 357 barrel for it.
Where can I get extra mags. ???
I scored a couple on Ebay just a couple of weeks ago. Brand new, too!
Tell me why this is better than Taurus TH9C
"Better" is a subjective term. The P239 fits my hand very well, is extremely easy to shoot along with being reliable and accurate. I would need to shoot the TH9C to make a comparison, so I'm thinking I will do that.
Is this still your favorite ?
do you still carry this gun?
I do. There are a few guns I choose between based on clothing choices, and this is one of them.
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel I bought the tactical version with a shorter trigger reset but never carried, however it's one of the few guns that had 0 malfunctions whatsoever. I love it but the 1.5 stack 10+9mm micro compacts have made it easier for me to carry since i'm a smaller person and they print much less or almost not at all, i.e. p365 and hellcat
Sig eats Glock all day long Most people who don’t know about guns by Glock’s just like most people who don’t know about tequila by Petrone ignorance is bliss
eh, I have both and love them
Eats them in what way? Logistics, price, fielded use?
