The clone wars series had so many scenes where a UT AT, AT AP, or AT OT would’ve made more sense than AT TEs. I love the AT TE, but it gets annoying when it seems to be the only Republic tank used during the Clone Wars
Same. The AT-TE is cool and all, but our clone bros deserve a chance to play with some new toys too
@@MotRekrab1347I heard they wanted to and tried to used different vehicles other than the AT-TE, but no matter how hard they tried they couldn't get it to animate properly
A lot of it was about deployment. The AT-TE was commonly paired with LAAT dropships, and GAR capital ships were stocked full of them. The other walkers like the AT-AP came later and for more specialized roles. It makes sense that the AT-TE was far more prevalent, though I do agree with your point. Would've been beneficial to shake things up a bit.
Plus I realize this is more a filler for plot holes like the one you pointed out. Unfortunately for some of the vehicles you mentioned availability of said vehicles was no where near the availability of the at-te. Simply put they just didn't have the numbers to ne able to deploy then to all the zones of conflict. You see that same problem in comparable armies in our world. But I totally agree not only would they make more sense to use. But also the GAR was able to use field intelligence to be able to utilize appropriate vehicles for each different type of conflict zones. So while honestly underutilized and lazy on the animators part. They at last gave real world explanations for said underutilization.

It's sad that we never got to see more of this beast, qnd despite being a hovering AT-TE with a few tweeks, i kinda wish they'd brought this back into movies and tv-series.
It feels like many is tired of only seeing the AT-AT, AT-ST, AT-RT and AT-TE, so it would be good if they can bring this beast into more shows and movies. They should focus a bit more on the lesser seen and lesser known AT walkers and that's pretty much it.
A vehicle abandoned by its creators, but loved by fans. The UT-AT is still a beloved tank, and it's a shame we don't get to see it more anywhere. It's a badass tank and deserves more love and appreciation.

The UT-AT was almost created as a lego set, but was scrapped because of it's obscurity.

I wish there was more Star Wars content without Disney or hack Hollywood writing, bad directing and general incompetence ruining it all. There is so much more out there to make into video games and movies from comics and what not.
this is another vehicle that is sad that we never got to see more, this is another one that it's sad that we never got a Lego set of the UT-AT. and plus the set could be pretty cool, you can have this, a clone pilot figure, three clone trooper figures, maybe a new Ki-ade-mundi figure, two battle droids a super battle droid and then maybe a dwarf spider droid or a small crab droid just to go with it.
I've always wondered if in universe hover technology is considered to be inferior to mechanised legs for moving heavy ground vehicles. Which is why we never, or rarely, see hover tanks to rival the biggest walkers in universe.
But then we have the juggernaut with it's wheels and I wonder why we don't see giant wheeled tanks like that!
Probably an energy problem? Hover tech takes power that could be used by other onboard systems.
Yeah maybe energy prob. But then wheels could even have the gravlock feature the at-te legs have so you should be able to roll up and over everything
I've heard in-universe reasons include some atmospheres disabling/playing havoc on the repulsorlifts; repulsorlift jammers; and walkers/wheeled tanks are more resistant to emp weapons because of their natural grounding. Out of universe, I'm pretty sure they wanted to show the transition from the Republic to empire and so focused on the walkers/massive vehicles rather than the weird little hover tanks
Some atmosphere's disable or wreak havoc on hovercraft units and hovercraft can't bypass base shields and shield bubbles like Naboo, then there's things like repulsorlift jammers which can disable em. Which is why they use walkers also walkers like in the case of the AT-TE can literally go anywhere there's solid ground as AT-TEs can hang upside down in large caverns, underground cities or scale up skyscrapers and climb vertical cliffs something hovercraft can't do because they don't have magnetized feet.
You use hovercraft when you need to move fast and be maneuverable or to have a vehicle that can go over unstable bridges or terrain that walkers wouldn't be able to traverse.
Wheeled vehicles? I don't know honestly speed probably with the added benefit of crushing everything beneath you.

Fun fact lego was going to make the UT-AT in 2009 or 2010, but it was canceled for some reason, would have been a really cool set to have.
Sadly, the cutscenes that feature the UT-AT in OG Battlefront 2 are just movie clips from Episode 3
There was going to be a Lego set of the UT-AT but it was sadly cancelled. You can find an image of it in the Updated and Expanded Lego Star Wars Visual Dictionary from 2014.

as yes the good ol UT-AT, a behemoth and a masterpiece of ingenuity, it was genius, to say the least, one of the most unerratted vehicles of the clone wars, another being the AT-OT or AT-HE
Considering how easy airborne vehicles are in the universe. ( Normal airborne vehicles are readily available to regular citizens) I'm surprised the army's didn't use them as regularly as the us army use Humvee's
The AT-TE had things it could learn from this tank.

At first I thought this was about the tanks we saw in the Clone Wars video game. Similar shape but probably about a 3rd the size. I don't remember their name however.

I honestly think that the reason this wasn’t in the Clone Wars series was that it took too much time and money to model new vehicles, and so they just stuck with the basics. I mean so many of the background vehicles from both sides in AOTC and ROTS are completely absent in the show, and this is also true with clone armor, like we don’t see Bakara style armor, BARC troopers, or Clone Scout troopers. I guess in the end they just didnt need the extra models to tell their stories but it would have been cool if they had the extra time and money to put them in

00:58 Ironically, the GAR didn’t ever have any vehicles that could be stuck in mud. Especially not mud the troopers are casually walking on. As for atmospheric conditions, there is no reason for their LAAT to be outside of the atmosphere. They, being gunships, should obviously either be in combat, landed nearby to rearm, or flying around near the combat zones to deliver air support on demand.

is it just me or is the top turret referred to as a mass driver in some media, i have seen the turbolaser/ mass driver terminology used inter-changably for both this and the AT-TE?? Could some one pls explain this to me, it has been confusing me for a while
The trident was planned to get a lego set but this was scrapped by the lego design team and sadly never been revisited but considering lego is finally making a yavin base set we could possibly get one soon

The UTAT is an interesting one.. its not a tank..because its not fully armoured.. but ut is a tank.. a bit like a challenger tank with 17pdr in ww2 its gun is excellent but it's armour only medium so a tank.. but used by artillery Corp so artillery.. but assigned to tank units one to 3 so a tank.. err... OK so sort of a tank.. the heavy gun makes it artillery if it was just a vehicle with one gun and mediocre armour.. but it has 2 lesser cannon so more of a battery on one vehicle . OK. But it has a decent infantry carrying capacity so is it an IFV well no an IFV is a light tank with infantry and this ain't light.. but it has close range anti infantry blasters like the original Bradley had compartment guns.. so it's an artillery platform with several secondary weapons and close in weapons plus good infantry capacity and manoeuvrability but not the best armour... kinda fits in everywhere so handy to have along.. in a rpg where I was playing one coalition of a few minor planets we acquired some of these and they were well better than our current repulsorlift craft however we were updating the heavy armoured vehicle (not heaviest armour but all over) and added some single shot missile launchers that would deal with this vehicle plus another lot of minor improvements and upgrades.. such as a sentry mast for passive elint.. whilst our vehicle only had a light turbolaser in an armoured turret and a single laser cannon in the bow position which was originally the only weapon by percentages was the better vehicle.. the only thing really going for the UTAT is its utility .. like many other clone wars vehicles it was made to get at the enemy and do damage.. with survival of the crew being a tertiary consideration..

The Empire can kiss my ass I really do think the old republic had it good. Because of the diversity in their vehicles they had a lot more options to choose when conflict occurred. And plus clones are just more awesome
The UT-AT and AT-AP are way better than the AT-TE. Both designs are cooler and more practical.
The UT-AT seems to have a way heavier armament than the AT-TE. Those guns on the side are prob heavy laser cannons or mass drivers rather than medium laser cannons. And terret up top seems to be a remotely operated mass driver, though sadly it doesn't seem to be able to aim down. But at least the gunner isn't exposed like on the AT-TE. Its also got a chin double blaster cannon and 4 other blaster terrets that cover the sides and rear.
The UT-AT does have that obnoxious cockpit like the AT-TE, and the ski's seem only slightly more durable that the AT-TE's mid section... but its a way better assualt vehicle.
Whereas the AT-TE is a infantry fighting vehicle, and even then not a super great one as its laser cannons only have frontal and rear firing arcs, leaving the sides exposed. Even the UT-AT seems to have better all around coverage against infantry.
The AT-AP is just an awesome versatile artillery piece. Its mobile and, as long as its used defensively in nature, can eff.ectively defend itself from light CIS vehicles and infantry

Stupid design reminiscent of WW1 Mk4s with sponsons. Minimum elevation of the main gun is limited over the stylized cockpit, while the "sponson" mounted secondary guns are all elevation with precious little traverse. Final analysis, medium lasers are limited vs fighters and bombers as the whole body of the tank must be turned to track faster moving targets and are utterly ineffective against orbital targets while the main gun is limited headed over ridges or firing from bunkered positions that have THE HIGH GROUND.
