  • The AT-TE Republic walker tank was one of the most ubiquitous vehicles in the Clone Wars, far more capable and powerful than any of its CIS rivals, but it also had major weaknesses. See how it helped with the Clone Wars, fight for the Rebel Alliance, and take on everything from the droid AAT and the Imperial AT-AT.

      Do you buy the fight with the AT-AT's, because I don't
      It's like the makers of the show didn't know the lore of mass driver cannon and treted it like a lazer shooter.
      Come on man.
      The armor, now that is what would stop the bullets, except these are energy coated shooters, meaning there would penetrate a bit since the lazers would get past the sheild as it would eminate from the shell. either that or use it uop and then the shell hits.
      i get the armor though. I do.
      The idea is that the rebels simply didn't have mass drivers, and armor was still a thing anyway. That and that the AT_AT's would be new.
      I don't see why they had to be present right after the emprie got started. I mean, make millions of them, don't let people addapt, then take them out of the warehouse.
      right after the clone wars, the empries still had to fight and use corvets and have stardestroyers that could shoot down fighters.
      it wasn't until the imperial age that the emprie didn't care anymore.
      If you did this crap too early, you would have created a market for making mass drivers and shells,a nd aconcussive missile launchers.
      If hoever, you weren't retarded, and you had lots of small tank like vehicles and smaller walkers, everyone would go lazer canons, as the supply chains issues would have pushed people towards just buying gas instead.
      In fact, you can see thecanon industry being so improved that you had speeders that could cause an at-at to blow up in a single salvo. in fact, a double shot was probably enough.
      This makes more sense. allot of unsheilded walkers, the industry pumps out powerfull canonos, then there are no mass drivers anywhere and you add sheilds. Done. The whole industry allready hardpressed and underground would have to retool and get created from scratch, and you woulnd't be able to hide massdrving production as the only reason you would make massdrivers tis to get passed sheilding, and no one in the imperial side would use mass drivers to get passed sheilding, so you would not be able to get away with suply chaining the most suspicious products that no longer have an industry and have to be made from scratch.
      case in point, the rebels had single shot AT-AT busters and rope for pulling things, as rope and gas is not trackable, and no mass drivers that could penetrate sheilds. No slugs, now bows and arrows, no crossbows. Meaning the AT0AT's were introduced on hoth with out much doubt, as anyone with any level of intelligence would do.
      If I was the emeperor, I would have been building these things in absoulute secret for decades and exposed them after hoth, as that is the only sensable strategic choice for a non strategic walker (fear producer)

      Don't be detected
      If Detected, don't be acquired
      If Acquired, don't be hit
      If hit, don't be killed
      One of the best ways for your tank to survive engagements is to not be where your enemy is firing if at all possible. Tanks have to balance survivability, mobility and firepower to create the best platform possible. Focusing too much in one area will sacrifice in the others.
      The Empire took the opposite direction.
      Blaster Master Zero probably has the best tanks possible in any sci-fi with the Metal Attacker line, especially MA-01 Sophia III, MA-00 Sophia Zero, GA-01 Gaia Sophia and GA-01(SV) Gaia Sophia Sophia Supreme Vehicle.

      No, it isn't. It is almost 6 meters tall, meaning it can be seen with the naked eye from almost 9 kilometers away, while a shorter platform could only be seen at just over 6 kilometers (assuming no terrain features in the way).
      The position of its weapons, with most of them on the hull, also prevents it from taking full advantage of the most basic tank fighting position: hull down positions. To make full use of its armament, it has to full expose itself to enemy fire, rather than only exposing an armored turret. Such a design option could be justified if it were faster or a smaller target but it is slow (we never see it move faster than a walking pace of 2.5 to 4 miles per hour), lumbering, and huge, standing three or four times the height of the soldiers it supports.
      Finally, it is not a tank. It is a Frankenstein's Monster of contradictory battlefield roles. It is used as a tank/infantry fighting vehicle, supporting an infantry assault while also being a carrier to two entire squads of infantry, a command post for company and higher staffs, and a self-propelled indirect fire artillery piece. All of those battlefield roles have different requirements. An infantry carrier needs sufficient internal space for infantry dismounts and will usually sacrifice armor and firepower for that. A tank needs to maximize firepower and protection. An artillery piece needs to be able to put as much firepower as possible onto targets well outside its line of sight. And a command post needs to contain all the necessary comms gear for the staff to coordinate the battle. There's a reason no one has tried to combine these roles into one platform.
      The fact that it can climb a vertical cliff does not make it good. That is a niche (and very BAD) tactical scenario that is more a damning critique of the incompetence of the Jedi as battlefield commanders than it is an endorsement of the platform.

    But.... The Driver and Gunner typically never wear their armor as they are in tight cramped areas. It is mostly the commander and loader who wear their armor while inside. Widen the chassis slightly to allow the secondary turrets a wider dimension of fire. Allow it the abilities to jump, to crawl, and to walk side to side while facing all weapons on targets. Look at real world examples, most APC’s or IFV’s don’t carry more than 8 or so due to the risk of losing a large amount of troops if a single vehicle is knocked out.

    • @andrewchilds8886
      @andrewchilds8886 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Issue with that is that clone wars doesn’t care about trooper casualties. Every solider is a commodity purchased in bulk. The casualties are so high that it doesn’t matter. If the tank can get the troops to the battle then it can use the cannon as a supporting fire. Once its troops have been deployed it can move to the front to soak up hits while the soldiers take ground. It isn’t meant to be invincible, it’s meant to be expendable and to be valuable for as long as it is alive. It’s a consumable unit able to be sent around the galaxy with no major refittings therefore making supply lines simple. It can be used to kill tanks, troops, and even allow for soldiers to be sent wherever they are needed. The weaknesses are that anti armor weapons are relatively good at their jobs and that the front canopy is too large and exposed

      @@iain-duncan the m4 was versatile but it was neither small nor xheap for it's time. It was only relatively "cheap" because it was standardised and being produced in the thousands so the production line could streamline everything. It was very tall compared to many of it's contemporaries like the t34, cromwell and panzer 4. And it (as well as the churchill) was used in an APC configuration.
      The AT-TE was produced in such large numbers that it was similarly cheapened. It wasn't significantly larger than it's contemporaries, being similar to the churchill, a very good tank. It's versatility was not just its ability to function as an APC, it was also mobile artillery, infantry support tank, mobile command center, recovery vehicle and frontline mobile medcenter. APCs also don't necessarily have to be fast, fast APCs irl are a fairly recent developement, there were many large slow transports in ww2 (eg. Churchill kangaroo)

    • @iain-duncan
      @iain-duncan Před 9 měsíci

      @ironninja259 slow apcs are little used experimental projects, and having one platform to do a multitude kf projects like a field hospital, artillery, command post, and troop transport makes the vehicle an apc or more realistically an ifv. It simply isn't a tank under any lf those metrics.
      And the Sherman was tall, yes, but small in terms kf it's transportation. The atte Is sprawling, has completely illogical protection, is slow, and doesn't have a clearly defined role, meaning it simply cannot be a tank. Probably a good vehicle (ignoring the obvious flaws done for rule of cool like the exposed gunner and glass cockpit) given the planet hopping nature of the fighting, but being a good platform doesn't make it any more of a tank
