The AAT's main gun is nimble enough to track and down Naboo N-1 Starfighters as they tried to leave the Theed Hanger. Another plus, many modern MBTs are vulnerable to air attack, so it's nice to have a tank that can bite back.

    • @enoughothis
      @enoughothis Před 6 lety +25

NoobyWarfare 606 This is why attack helicopters are pretty much always moving. They are designed to take quite a beating and most tank crews would be concerned with ground threats leaving anti-air defense to other units, flak guns and the own air units. I haven't even mentioned the A-10 which is a tank-hunting beast and every bit as nasty and tough as the Warthog it's named after. 50 cals won't bring that down!

It goes to show that in the star wars verse, while they are technologically more advanced than us, but military wise they are lacking, mainly due to experience and doctrines. AAT is in my opinion one of the best star wars tanks, however even then it has the weakness of being geared towards "Full forward assault" with the only one weapon capable of rotating intependently.

But the AAT is awful. It has a giant weakspot right in the middle of it in the form of the giant and useless frontal hatch, plus the terrible rocket launchers that are positioned in such a way that both compromises the frontal armor by having giant cut-outs in it filled with explosives and are completely ineffective as a weapon since they are fired from the lowest point of the tank and would immediately detonate if they came across debris or hills (which in battlefields kinda happens a lot). And that's not even mentioning the pointless fixed laser cannons or the idiotically tall and wide profile. It's a terrible design of a tank.

AAT is arguably nothing more than a small improvement on modern Earthling tanks. The only thing the AAT really has on the Saber Tank is firepower and artillery capabilites, but why would you need those when you can speed up to the enemies and give them a concussion missile right in the kisser?

TX-130s could lock onto their targets, then blast away with the heavy laser cannons, and rockets until nothing was left. Because of their incredible maneuverability, (and the fact thaat they were being piloted by Jedi with pre cognition and force sense abilities of course), TX-130s could take on far more heavily armed vehicles than just AATs. In the game, TX-130s could take on Proto-Dekas, which had missile racks similar to hailfire tanks, with enormous, rapid fire laser cannons, and a shockwave weapon, as well as far more armor than an AAT.

While not as heavily armed as ATTEs, or AATs, the TX-130 was more than capable of taking on far heavier vehicles like Protodekas when piloted by a Jedi. I personally think that the rockets and heavy laser cannons would be more than enough to destroy an AAT, while the TX-130 could avaid the mass majority of anything firing back at it.

When you think about it, the TX-225 seems more to fit the role of an assault gun, meant to bolster the firepower of the infantry around it as well as providing support against more hard enemy positions, or even light to medium armor (considering what it did to that building in Rogue One, those cannons does seem to slouch in term of power). It's like the various Stug models fielded by the Germans in WW2, and when you look at the TX-225 from this angle, it actually becomes a rather good design for an infantry support assault gun.

Hyperspace suicide runs aside, from what I'm aware the Supremacy is primary a command center and mobile shipyard/manufacturing area, while the Viscount was designed specifically to counter other star dreadnoughts like the Executor-class. Shittons of turbolasers, ion cannons, armor, and Mon Cal shielding. So just one Viscount would probably win against the Supremacy.

Hey, there's something I would urge you to look at at some point that's pretty interesting called the Protodeka. It was featured in the old Star Wars: The Clone Wars video game that I used to play on the original xbox (man, those were some great days in my childhood). It was basically a very large hovering weapons platform that served as a boss fight in at least two places in the game, if memory serves.
Here's a link to the wiki page: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Protodeka Should help you get started if you ever deem it worthy of being featured in a vid. I'm sure there's a few youtube videos floating around of it as well.

Hey Eckhardt, you should consider doing some comparison videos with the factions from the Starcraft universe, I feel like there could be some really cool matchups, like the Terran military vs the empire or UNSC, especially since while the Terran's would be at a numbers disadvantage the basic marine is essentially a nerfed Space Marine from Warhammer 40k. And the Protoss would be cool to look at because while they would really suffer a numbers disadvantage I don't think there is a single faction you've talked about so far that even approaches their level of technological advancement. Anyways just thought you might find the idea interesting, love the videos and keep on keeping on!

As a Republic lover, I am putting Republic Hover Tank on the first spot. The design looks neat. It's small but quite fast and it has got two powerful cannons. Sure, the armour is not strong but I still love it. AAT is good too but what I don't like on it is that the turrent can't go down fully. Sure, it can take out starfighters but ground forces, not much. At least in the close encounter.

My favorite Star Wars tank of all time is still the TX-130 tank. I thought it was badass back when I first got 2002's Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and I still think that today.
You're right about it's main advantage being speed, the Battlefront games had to weaken it for balancing issues but I remember it could easily go toe to toe with most CIS tanks, I think it's main rival was the Homing Spider Droids, just because those didn't need to turn around to shoot you.
It's interesting you compare the tank to a Jedi, because I'm pretty sure in the booklet for The Clone Wars it's compared to the "Jedi Starfighter of the ground" for it's speed and maneuverability.
    Great video, keep it up!

The AAT has to be my favorite. Idk why but that big cannon on the top just makes that tank look like a mobile artillery unit. Plus the large mortar tubes in the front give it a nice anti armor roll. If there was a droid on top with a repeating blaster it would be a far mor perfect tank. Im glad we agree on this being our fav, 2 great minds think alike lol Loved the video and how you included that crappy rebellion tank. Keep it up

I wholeheartedly agree with the choices/places on the list. Being the 'tank nut' I am, I have to note that many Early WW2 Russian Heavy Tanks (KV Series) had rear turret machine guns, and the idea was scrapped because (as you said) if used with supporting infantry it would be fine, not to mention the additional storage for ammo and the maintenance. Also the AAT is lightly armored in the back with all it vital systems there, can't argue with that, but there really is no other place to put them (can't put in center since all the crew are there) + heavy armor on the back of a tank is usually not beneficial for speed, and cost since it rarely is used.
Sorry for the rant. Love your channel!

Can you do a vid on whether a CIS style secessionist movement would have been successful against the Empire? Assume that they shared information and coordinated with the rebellion in a limited way and that they had a military similar to the rebels, but they only focused on defending the star systems that were in the group breaking away. Also, the number of systems breaking away is similar to the CIS
