Hello and welcome to the very first episode of the Kit & Krysta Podcast of 2024! We're so excited for what this year will bring and we're going to kick it off with a bang with our hot predictions for 2024, including quite a bit around the Switch 2, which we both feel is going to happen this year. We did pretty good last year with our 2023 predictions but this year is admittedly a bit more nebulous. We also lock a few predictions in and if we're wrong there is a severe punishment to endure. Also in this episode, we also have more games we've been playing over the holiday break and we wrap it all up with questions from our amazing Patreon subscribers. All this and more is coming right up!

#switch2 #nintendoswitch2 #nintendoswitch #nintendo - Hry
I think Switch 2 cartridges will be like 3DS were to DS. I think Switch cartridges will fit in Switch 2, but Switch 2 cartridges won't work on Switch.
I would love that it would be a little love letter to the 3Ds and a call back to.
That is exactly what I was thinking too. I hope we are right!
My prediction is that switch 2 cartridges will physically git into the switch 1, but doing so will provide a popup saying "Hey new console's out go buy it."
I think Nintendo would be crazy to disallow physical Switch 1 games from being played on Switch 2. Physical Switch games are clearly more desired and collectable than any other physical games media at retail right now, and to leave that huge market in the dust would really stink!
Kit starting the year with that fresh cut!
I understood what Krysta was saying about Super Nintendo World. We knew that Donkey Kong Country was part of attraction plans for SNW since basically the beginning of negotiations. There was even that leaked photo of the DKC diorama before the Super Mario section even opened up to the public. After its complete, don't expect any major additions like rides and attractions or other franchises (outside of the gift shop stuff) for at least a few years. It doesn’t help that the space they're working with in Osaka and Hollywood is already cramped. Basically don't expect any big press announcements for the park once they're done advertising the DKC sections.
Right. Universal needs to fulfill their commitment to building Super Nintendo World in Orlando and Singapore since those parks have yet to receive it. I imagine that's the focus for the next couple years after DK opens in Japan this spring.
As far as game manuals go, the one for Professor Layton and the Diabological Box had a super interesting one. If you know you know, I guess 🤷
I don't have any Predictions, but as always I will keep holding out for a sequel/remake/port of Kid Icarus Uprising for the Switch to come out this year🤩
Thanks for the video Kit and Krysta: God Bless 😇✝️
12 years later I'm still baffled that they made such a great game to relaunch an IP and then proceeded to drop it again immediately after.
Great start to the New Year. I'm starting a new job and this podcast helps a ton. Thank you for all you do, much love!
58:58 “these are not predictions…this is you’re reading news” 😂
It's me: I'm the one beating the drum for Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War
36:55
Enjoyed this discussion, I really hope they implement Streetpass/themes (maybe a Miiverse equivalent) with the new console - the Switch dashboard has no personality!
One other thing, Kit where did you get that cardigan? 😁
Now that I think about it, those manuals must have been so expensive to print, especially the ones in color.
I love when you do predictions! Because you follow them up. Happy new year guys 🎉🎉🎉
I want a HD2D Pokémon Black and White so bad. Just bring us back man. They see that people love the art style and so many people love the animated sprites style of Black and White. If that’s all they did this year was really work on those remakes (since they glossed over BDSP😢)
Not a fan of the Ch!bi style at all. We have the Legends Arceus engine now that runs so smoothly and seems really easy to work with as they've based 2 whole recent and fully 3D games based off it.
They could easily modify the original engine again and give Us gen5 re-done that way. The OG cutscenes are a hint.
1:36:36 I loved hearing your thoughts on work and retirement! It could be good to upload that segment as a separate video.
3D Mario is launch title for Switch 2 for sure. Mario Kart will be the year after launch like Smash Ultimate was in 2018 for Switch
I really like that DKC Returns HD prediction! Love that game!
TOOOOODAYYYYY... is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you
Great predictions! I especially love the Mario and DK collab from Kit!
Needed something in the background, thank you!
First game that comes to mind that I’m excited for is the new Peach game and possibly an open world Mario game
It'll have been like 7 years since Odyssey when Switch 2 launches, a 3D Mario will definitely be a launch title. Mario Kart 9 will probably come later, it's still very recent since the final wave of DLC for 8 Deluxe came out.
I honestly can see. Metroid Prime 4 launch for September 2024. Odyssey 2 November 2024. Mario Kart X - Feb 2024
@@Bombasaur101 That sounds very plausible!
Kingdom Hearts having a collection on the next system would be amazing.
Second that. The cloud based was such a let down
@@edwaffle Yeah, I would have bought it in a heartbeat without a sale.
Everyone:
The 'Super Switch' this
and
'Switch 2' that.
Nintendo:
Introducing The sWiitch coming in 2024
Can’t believe we’re almost at 100! Feels like not that long ago when you guys began this podcast.
Loved your predictions, too! Launching in Summer sounds awesome, and I would ADORE the hell out of that Mario x DK game. My personal prediction for Switch 2 this year is actually very similar to yours with Pokémon, and that’s I do think whatever game comes out WONT be made by GameFreak. I REALLY don’t want it to be a BW remake, at least not in the style of BDSP, but I think that’s unfortunately the most likely.
Trust me no one wants another BDSP.
I predict the only piece of new content for Tears of the Kingdom in the Switch 2 re-release/double pack will be a Switch 2 T-Shirt. If it worked for BotW, it's gonna work for TotK aswell.
Kicking off 2024 with some really interesting gaming predictions for this new year!
Im just glad u both are back ps jan 2 was my birthday welcome back
I can definitely a Mario and Donkey Kong 3D game as it would compliment the involvement with the park sections, the movies and the Legos.
I actually really like Krysta's idea of remaking FE Awakening. It's been over 10 years now and it'll be new to anyone who had the Switch as their first console and never had a 3DS. Three Houses and Engage (+ Tokyo Mirage Sessions, FE Warriors) weren't necessarily the best representation of the series. Bringing back Awakening could be a good way to set up the next generation.
lol it won’t happen. FE4 is already getting a remake.
I think that they Will remake them by order, fe 4 has been talked about a lot. Personally would love to see ikes games because they are really underrated and didnt get the attention they deserved
I always loving hearing your perspectives on that your honest but not negative.
Switch 2 could be called the Switch Advanced or the Switch Blade, because it's abilities are shaper than the previous console. 😉👌🏿
Switch advance would be sick. Personally hoping for super switch
One thing I used the instruction manual notes section for: the freaking passwords for old mega man games.
Whoa, as a big DK fan, I gotta say I love Kit's idea of a Mario/DK team up! With last year's movie, and this year's expansion of Tokyo's Universal Studios, this is the best time to announce something like that.
Happy new years
I just want to see Fossil Fighters return since Nintendo neglected it since the terrible 3rd entry didn't sell well! I want to see a Fossil Fighters and Fossil Fighters Champions ground up remake called Fossil Fighters + Fossil Fighters Champions Revival Edition.
The FE Genealogy remake is rumored to exclusive to Switch 1, just something worth noting.
I have heard the Mario/DK team up game idea before, it especially gained some steam after the rumors of the Mario team taking on DK. It would be cool... but it wont make up for the decade long drought of no "Donkey Kong" and I'll still want a game that's just the DK crew.
I have a Wii u and a 3ds and if the switch 2 is backyards compatible with the og switch i think if would be a Great upgrade put I dont think I will update the year it releases because it will be hard to get for its first year and after that first year they would have fixed bugs with the console
1:29:00 ish. Dude, turn based strategy Splatoon spinoff has been my idea for years! I would love to see it.
Great list guys, best prediction goes to Kit with an HD DKC Return remake. That would be amazing
Regarding what you said about Nintendo's mobile efforts, they do have ONE extremely successful mobile game, & it's Fire Emblem Heroes. It's still going now, & it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon. I think that as long as Fire Emblem Heroes keeps getting support, Nintendo will keep going with mobile support.
NEVER count out Fire Emblem (& Xenoblade)!
Just a random thing I just noticed:
Your audio quality drastically improved! Not as echo-y as in the past! =D
1:29:30 so like Persona 5 Tactica's Paint Your Heart DLC?
Happy New Year guys, congratulations on keeping going with the podcast! My predictions are totatlly opposite to yours: Switch NG will be, just announced this year, and the release will be next year, at best. The way things are going, Nintendo can go ahead and not say anything this year, and that'd be fine. There are a lot of great games already on Switch, and more are coming, and software sales are increasing every year, their business is doing great, no need to release a new console this year.
Around 37:00 I think a splatoon 1 port would be nice too. I feel like splat 3 is gonna have a switch 2 version that fixes the blurry textures on maps and the big salmon run frame dips and slowdown when a lot is happening especially at higher hazard levels but I feel like having a splat 1 port would be easy and gives people who grinded all of s3 something new to do on the new system besides the same thing.
Happy New Year! For predictions I feel Mario Kart 9 won't be a launch title for the new console because Nintendo is going to want to push MK8D's DLC more. Plus the dlc is included with the online which they'll want to push as well
As far as the mother/earthbound series, there are rumors that there are plans since it is the 30th anniversary this year.
I feel that the switch 2 will atleast be announced this year, almost more curious about what color the game boxes will use this time around. IF they name it "SUPER SWITCH" grey wouldnt be bad, no?
Anyone know where I can get the same cardigan Kit is wearing!? Lol
Hmmm... the 2017 Nintendo Switch Presentation seems to have been made private/delisted on Nintendo's YT channel... something's up and happening soon. That reveal was on the 2nd Friday... repeated that again would be a trailer this coming Jan 12th...
Licensed music. That's all.
Very grounded predictions. Good show. A Mario & DK game feels the most 'out there' to me but it would be a Day 1 buy for me.
February direct... perfect place to announce it
So far there isn’t much that’s got me excited to release this year except Prince of Persia. Therefore, I’m going to work on the backlog to start the year. I’ve gone back to playing my Druid character in Diablo IV.
Street Pass is an absolute must!
I think we will know if the Switch 2 will be coming out this year based on the content in the first Direct. If it’s pretty light on content then I think it will be safe it is coming out this year.
I really hope companies find a way to get around bot purchasers who just turn around and sell stuff on eBay for 2-3 times the retail price. Literally every new thing I've hoped to get in the last 4-5 years has been affected by this, from shoes, to Disney Lorcana (which I've given up on trying to buy at this point). It took me almost a year to snag a PS5 at retail price. I just hate knowing that any new thing I want is probably not going to be unavailable for a year or more.
One more until the 100th Episode of Kit and Krysta! 2024, I believe we'll see a presentation of the next Switch console and it's likely we'll see it in 2025 (Holiday 2024 would be a minimum). I think it's possible we'll hear about another 3D Mario game/Mario Sports (mainly baseball). As exciting as we are excited to see games being ported from previous consoles, I am hoping to see something new since there's not much. These predictions are gonna be interesting.
I’m thinking it’s gonna be announced sometime in Jan and release in March
I predict that there is no switch 2 but there might just be an updated version of a switch kinda like the Oled.
Can’t wait for switch 2!
Here’s to the first new podcast of the year! 😁
I still think clipping some of the podcast is a good idea if it's a big topic.Maybe something like the Switch 2 being $400 or Hi Fi Rush coming to Nintendo Switch.
"Former Nintendo Employees Discuss $400 Nintendo Switch 2"
"Hi Fi Rush Coming to Nintendo Switch? | Former Nintendo Employees Discuss"
"The Future of Smash Bros | Former Nintendo Employees Discussion"
I don't really understand the *Question in asterisks* thing you do sometimes. I've never seen that done.
I so want that Mario + DK platformer.
With more power, comes more video games!
My #1 hope for Switch 2 is that the joycon equivalent will have full console controller sized inputs, if not by default than as an alternate option (take advantage of the modularity this time Nintendo please!). I personnaly cannot stand the dinky buttons and sticks, and I hope the infamous drift issue should at least highlight the need to take the next iteration seriously.
Tom from GameXplain also made the Mario + DK game prediction in their 2024 prediction video and I can't get it out of my head now. To hear Kit say it makes me even more jazzed that they honestly could be doing something like that. I also saw someone say a Mario game but the different worlds are different Nintendo universes. That would also be SICK.
It'd be nice if the next game showed us how DK/Wario/Yoshi etc all the mario Universe titles connect.
@@tyg-zw7nnwith the Mario movie leaning into this I could see it
My prediction, a Pokémon Legends sequel!!!! And I hope for it 🤞🏻
So it's going to have 2 screens because 1 it makes it much more inconvenient to emulate, and it allows for more games to come to the nso service. Its going to have quite a bit more power not a lot, but a lot for nintendo dlss will be a big thing for them as that will also make it much harder to emulate and allows for much higher preformace with no real downsides i really hope it has backwards compatibility but thats been thrown into question with the new "cart". I also really hope 4k 60 is possible on it. this is my prediction.
*Unrelated:* How can Kit _not_ like Sonic when his hair is emulating the quills on his back? lol
(not hating on the hair, btw)
I’m hoping for some awesome NSO updates- OG Pokémon on Gameboy, Smash Bros 64, DK 64 (which would fit nicely with your DK theory), Banjo Tooie, Diddy Kong racing and Bomberman 64. NSO would be complete for me
best video yet!
What do you think the name of the console will be??
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t quite at the level of the new DKC games but it comes VERY close and does some things better. Definitely stick with it, really gets going a few levels in.
I love me some optimistic Switch 2 talk
Do you think Nintendo will go back to dual screen?
In my opinion, Mario Kart Tour has been a successful venture for Nintendo in the mobile gaming sector, but it is not like the sales of the console versions, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continue to lead the franchise in terms of total units sold. Mario Kart Tour has achieved significant success in the mobile gaming market, surpassing 200 million downloads and generating $200 million in player spending. And Fire Emblem Heroes sold well too, right?
Fire Emblem Heros surpassed 1 billion$ in lifetime player spending in Q1 of 2022. To my knowledge Heros alone has more player spending than all their other mobile games combined. Don't know current statistics and that's just what I remember from an article I saw about that like ~6 months ago.
Remaster or do HD versions... Seems kinda redundant. Not completely because they can remaster in 4K if that's possible. But still...
I predict a new Fzero this year 😁😁😁
I would lean more into the "Former Nintendo Employees" angle more to see if that helps.
"Former Nintendo Employees Discuss Nintendo Switch 2 Price"
"Nintendo Direct 1-xx-24 | Former Nintendo Employees React"
"Former Nintendo Employees React to Nintendo Direct"
"Former Nintendo Employees Tries Halo For The First Time"
Those are just example titles. I was actually wondering why you two hadn't explored this angle before with titles. I wouldn't do it all the time but it seems like a good idea to try when appropriate.
Some features I hope a future Nintendo console could have:
- Backwards compatibility to play games from up to GameCube and Game Boy, for those who still own the games. I don't mind playing on past consoles. I still play my Wii sometimes.
- More power that could match Xbox and PlayStation.
- Many features that the Wii and Wii U had, but the Switch doesn't have. Like messaging and an internet browser app.
But if the next console would be an enhanced Switch, these features may be less likely.
I think you're wrong about the Zelda movie. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming out in May and Zelda is Wes Ball's next movie. There will likely be a short break before he starts work on pre-production, but not a seven-month break, and since this is a live-action movie, the cast will be announced before production begins, so I think there's a 90% chance we get a cast announcement by the end of the year.
The switch 2 will be an upgraded version of the switch… but with V.R.
Retro Bowl should have had an additional Quick Game and Auto-Managed Season. I love the game, gets better as your team improves. Initially, it is a mild shock that defense is the way it is, but by my experience most people I played football games with in the past are whiny, bored and always on the verge of quitting with playing defense - so add those additional modes I mentioned above and it would be even better experience for casuals.
Be interesting to see how many (if any - hope so!) of these come Good! ^ ^ My prediction is that Nintendo will release some games this Year.
Okok , loool just messin' - I think the Switch 2 will be a clamshell Dual-screen design. Hoping they can power 2 screens!
Here's a few third party games that I think would be no brainers to see at the launch of Switch 2 or in the few months right after launch:
GTA V (remember how this was the 2nd or 3rd game announced for PS5?);
Diablo IV;
Visions of Mana;
Final Fantasy VII;
Elden Ring;
Dark Souls 2, 3 and Sekiro;
Metal Gear Solid V;
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora;
Hi-Fi Rush (I know, contentious one, but Cuphead and the Ori games did release on Switch);
Metaphor: Re Fantazio.
wow, next episode is the 100th!
99 episodes wow 😧
24:17 ur comparing the iwata era to the furukawa era and assuming it’ll be the same even tho their minds work completely differently
I think Switch U will release in November 2024. Mario Kart X will not be released until 2025 though.
My prediction is that the Switch 2 releases Q4.
I want a dual screen Switch lite.
You could do a Mario movie reaction like you did with the Sonic movie.
“Former Nintendo Employees Watch Mario Movie”
“Super Mario Bros Movie Reaction by Former Nintendo Employees”
I predict the Switch 2 will be able to connect with other devices/pc/mac - as a second screen for Wii U like functionality (maps, inventory, plays in sports games). This will also allow for the "value added services" with Nintendo account. I predict some games (maybe all) will need to be installed to internal storage to use fast ssd. I hope there will be multiple SKUs with the only difference being internal storage size. They can mark up the higher tier and make more money per system. Maybe higher tiers have a better OLED screen. We'll see!
Ohhh that’s a good idea. imagine it connects to the original Switch for that second screen. There’s a selling point
I need a wild Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask combined remake, for Switch. It needs to have the same feel but updated, without loading screens and borders. It needs HD textures, more natural lighting and an orchestral score. At the end, it leads directly into Majora's Mask. It should, also, feature cut content and, maybe, some new things.
I swear, Kit would've been on thin ice for me if he had said the female version of V was the lesser in terms of voice acting. Cherami Leigh is the GOAT.
I think the cartridges for Switch 2 will be a different shape so that you cannot try to fit them into the Switch. There should be backwards compatibility though.
I think the joycons will be different--hopefully the drift fixed! There will be new pro controllers with more features.
Yes, please let them give us a Donkey Kong game, preferably 3D.
The Mario in New York and Link in Central Park shirts REALLY remind me of the 2000-2006ish years of Nintendo merch. I had a shirt that was styled like Scar Face but had Mario. It was official. A lot of their ads were in a similar style to these shirts, as well. I find that really interesting.
EDIT: Unpaused the video and Krysta basically said they ARE that old lmao. Glad to find out I knew my stuff.
So my only suspicion about Pokémon is one I think the new game is going to be a gen 2 remake not gen 5 quite yet. But also they prefer a larger install base. So even if the switch 2 comes out before they releases new game in maybe Nov. they will still put the game on the switch 1
I don't understand why we would get Johto? There seems to be no interest on a Let's Go 2. Unova has been heavily hinted this genetation and Legends Kyurem seems like the logical step forward.
I personally think it's too early for a Gen 5 remake, but if they are doing the same Remake + Legends combo then that seems likely.
@@Bombasaur101 typically gamefreak has remade the generation we’ve gone the longest without which is gen 2. They haven’t diverted from this pattern ever. They even remade gen 1 for the second time before they remade gen 4 because that’s the pattern. I’m not saying it will be let’s go either but I do think a johto game is more likely because gamefreak is very formulaic
@@Bombasaur101 also possible that gamefreak takes the year off and the Pokémon company lets a mystery dungeons explorers remake be the Pokémon representation for the year because even the rescue team remake fit accurately into that remake pattern
@colebeck6528 that pattern is coincidental and GameFreak has totally gone of pattern. First they introduced sequels, and two - 3rd versions. Then they skipped a 3rd versions for Kalos. Then they did a 2nd Kanto remake. Then they stopped doing 3rd versions and did DLC. Then they gave the Sinnoh remake to another developer, and instead made an entire new Pokemon game that broke all conventions with Arceus.
Let's Go made sense at a time with Pokemon GO being recent, but in the current time a Let's Go Johto remake would make no marketing sense IMO. Then they would be rehashing Kanto AGAIN, which is already on Switch.
I just don't see GameFreak having enough devs for mainline, Let's GO and Legends games.
Bandai Namco were helping Nintendo make games, I'd be surprise if Elden Ring is not on the new Switch. But then I'm surprised Dark Souls 2 3 Sekiro aren't on current Switch.
I’m personally leaning toward the new console being announced soon, specifically before the end of February so The Pokemon Company can make their announcements
Whatever Pokémon game is coming this year will likely be Switch 1-only.
Yeah TPC generally skips the first year of the new console
Mk9 or arms 2
