Removing the Joy-Con from the Switch 2 is the furthest thing from possible. It'd remove out of the box, portable multiplayer, and many other things. But if they remove the Joy-Con, they have to change the logo! The logo *is* the Joy-Con, at least an abstract version. There is no reality where the Switch 2 changes the logo entirely. It's just as likely as it not being called Switch at all.

For me, an adult, tabletop mode is an occasional novelty but I'm glad it's an option. That being said over the years my joycons have loosened a bit and occasionally one will click a bit out of place after playing for a while. I hope the new controller/joycon are a bit larger to grip.

Nintendos main market for the Switch is casual and family gamers, just as it was with the Wii.
Most of the CZcamsrs or Internet people come at from a ‘gamer’ angle, wanting 4K graphics and 120fps whereas Nintendos core market just doesn’t care about that.
If tabletop mode is popular with the majority of their user base then it’s coming back.

Not having something like joycons is crazy imo. Casuals still like that tabletop, share a controller concept. Very good for the younger audience too. The “grip” they included could probably go, though I’ve still seen so many people with switches only use that
I think only the core gaming audience really hates joycons lmao. Go offline and everyone uses them

I don't think joy-cons are going away. I see them making new joy-cons for the system with far better reliability. magnets instead of rails, sturdier materials, analog triggers with haptic feedback and better joy-sticks (Not necessarily hall effect but far better than we have now.) Nintendo wanted to package two controllers similar to the NES and SNES back in the day and the joy-cons were a creative solution to that without jacking up the cost with 2 full controllers in the box. Also 2 joy-cons separate slouched back on the couch was the most comfortable and my preferred way to play in most scenarios even with my large hands.

The Switch 2 announcement trailer won't be shadowdropped. There will be an announcement that the video will be dropped the next day.
As for timing, the best time for announcement in March seems to be the first couple of weeks to let them give Peach's game a bit of marketing. A March release also works because they likely don't want a repeat of the 3DS announcement.
Finally, the Direct is likely to be a Mini and not a partner Direct, mainly because they have a few first party things to clarify on.
As for tabletop mode, while I did initially have to use it on my launch Switch due to the Joy Con no longer connecting, I've found that I prefer tabletop over handheld with the OLED, likely as my hands have gotten older and due to its heavier size.

Removing the joycons would be a really bad move. Replacable controllers on a handheld and being able to use them as two controllers are big points. Makes it easier to replace the conteollers and to use them for things like ring fit. The reliability of the stick has nothing to do with the joycons themselves.

I don't like to mention this because I don't care for VR, but redesigned Joy-Con for inside-out tracking would make sense if they are planning to make the next hardware (called Flip or something silly like that) have a mode where it is a VR headset. They could advertise it being used on a plane for a personal screen, multiplayer games where each person has their own perspective, etc. Back when the Flip was being designed, VR was the big thing.

I would normally say "they would never get rid of the Joy-Cons", especially with how widely used the split-Joy-Con setup is in games like Mario Odyssey, Ring Fit Adventure, Pokémon Let's Go, Skyward Sword HD, Switch Sports, ARMS, etc., _but_ this is Nintendo we're talking about here. There are many features the past five consoles had that are still unique to each of them, so they certainly could drop the Joy-Cons if they wanted to and use two sets of buttons and sticks if redundancy doesn't concern them.

I'm imaging an 8 inch screen but on a clamshell. The lower half of the unit can contain the battery and all the internals so the top being just the screen is light and thin. The controls and gimmick will exist in the lower half. This way the total width of the unit is basically still 8 inches. And no thumb cramp because there is plenty of room for controls. The sticks can be counter sunk to an extent to not hit the screen when closed. Maybe the bottom will have a mini screen, or a dial, whatever innovation gimmick they're going with.

In regards to ram power draw with lpddr, the range of capacity isnt really going to have much impact on power draw.
The GA10F is 1 GPC of Ampere, ampere has a dual memory controller per gpc, with one gpc it can take 2 64 bit busses. Which means 2 ram units. Whether thats 2 4GB for 8, 2 6GB for 12, or 2 8GB for 16, its not going to have a large impact on power draw compared to say, 4 blocks at 2 GB for 8.
Its not great for bandwidth, but it gets capacity at a low power draw.

You know I know Nintendo LOVES innovation and originality... don't get me wrong, I do too... But has this stopped Sony from selling WAY more units with just an upgraded numbered console? I don't think people realize how sellable familiarity is. There is a reason why PS5 still sells like crazy despite having very minimal innovation (outside of copying Switch Joycon tech in the Dual Sense and Fast SSD). It still sells, despite no real massive appealing exclusives, and you can see that is true based on console sales vs software sales.

There is one advantage of Joy-Con: If/when it fails, while you add a point of failure, you kinda don't - you swap potential issues with the buttons/sticks for a potential issue with the connection between the console and the controller.
Edit: Just to add to it. I don't have a Pro Controller. I don't need a Pro Controller. I think that, not knowing how the DualSense works, I'd rather have a split controller than a monolithic one. Maybe the VR-designed controllers are the golden standard (though are way more expensive than the regular ones), but the Joy-Con is a joy to laze around.
If they ever overhaul it - say due to not many people using it sideways, I wouldn't reject them having a more grippy feel, and maybe more traditional (in a sense) controls. Yet with one singular new feature: A haptic surface over the ZL/ZR (or the L/R, depending on how you do them) analog buttons to be able to have a new way to interface in, say, menus. Like a scroll wheel, but without the physical components that will make it bigger and more prone to failure.

Extra ram does NOT automatically mean extra battery drainage. More ram can help battery life in MANY situations. With more ram you can load more assets into the game faster and then allow the system to throttle down and save some juice

You guys got on to the topic of table top mode. I personally have used table top mode a tonne, BUT I avoid single joy-con play like the plague. Instead, I've always done it with 2 8bitdo SN30Pro controllers.
Also I personally don't think Nintendo is getting rid of Joy-con, I just think they'll update them to be more ergonomic and remove the ability to be used as single joy-con on their side.
The way I think they'll revise the joy-con is to go the route of the Hori split pad pro and have no battery, Bluetooth receiver or gyro in the joy-con, instead they'll be in the grip base

I think Nintendo will allow 'next gen patches' on Switch 2, since that leaves compatibility issues in the hands of other people to make those mistakes if they mess up. I also feel like Metroid Prime 4 is knee deep in a no-win scenario right now, since it's caught between multiple systems and a prolonged development timeline, having to serve more voices than they normally wish.

I understand the rationale behind removal but think removing a key distinguishing feature when people are asking for things to distinguish the switch for many not just kids is foolish. Removable controllers is still a very limited feature in this segment of product

It seems that Nintendo really likes releasing new generations of game consoles in September and November, Only difference is the OG Switch in March. (Specifically North America)
    *NES - September 1986
    *SNES - September 1991
    *N64 - September 1996
    *Gamecube - November 2001
    Wii - November 2006
    Wii U - November 2012
    Switch - March 2017
*= Segmented launch based on region. Using North America as it relates to me and it's Nintendo's biggest Market currently.

This is interesting. Let’s see how it is in Japan.
      Famicom was 1983
      Super Famicom 1990
      N64 1996
      GC 2001
      Wii 2006
      Wii U 2012
      Switch 2017
Basically from the N64 era all consoles released in the same year and more recent generation even on the same day.
Interestingly enough the Nes is the only console that has been around for 7 years before the next gen with the Switch only being the second console generation to last this long.
That being said when talking about handheld, the gameboy is a record holder from 1989 until 2001. That’s completely ridiculous. 12 years.
Although if you could the gbc as a new hardware generation in 1998 the og gb would have “only” had 9 years.
The DS also had a 7 year life span and the 3DS “only” 6.
The Nes, N64 released in summer in Japan.
Handhelds GB, GBA, 3DS released in spring.
Long story short, anything is possible.
The next gen Switch could come this spring, this November or even next year’s March as the Switch isn’t hurting at all. Hardware sales are slowing down but it has a whole another year in it if Nintendo wants to.

      Possible.

Thing is we don’t know. They might still be struggling figuring it out. Or they’ve had it ready for a while.
I really hope that the hardware isn’t that outdated though..
I guess RTX 40XX series features like DLSS 3.5 and framegen would be a stretch but I’d take 3080 mobile like performance any day. But I guess even that would be wishful thinking.😅

I'll play in Tabletop mode with my pro controller or multiple pro controllers sync up for multiplayer/Smash Ult, etc. Is this considered a different mode??? To consider that dual screen approach I do see switch lite being able to work as a control in that way I mean how much would a new control with a screen cost vs the price of a switch lite when it gets reduced. This way nintendo has the pro control that's more expensive and has bells n whistles while they sell you switch lites for $50-60 as player 2 controllers....driving switch sales along with next gen

Im thinking 12gb. 16gb is the goal to set but 12 would be a good compromise. Considering a lower base resolution of the internal screen you wouldn't need that high of res on textures thus saving on memory. Dlss Can do the rest of the work about as good as it can for tv play.
Also internal storage is a consideration devs are getting spoiled with how fast storage is now and compromising storage for memory would be possibly a bottleneck. At the end of the day the main crucial aspect will be balancing the system cause that is what it needs most.

NES, SNES, really aoltbeir successful consoles were because of their own great IPs and third party supoort. If it was inky about Nintendo's own IP, then the Game Cube, Wii U, etc wouod have sold well if it was all about Nintendo IPs.
