I agree with you when it comes to the visual clutter. The game selection containing only 13 games is really quite sad too considering combining both NES Remixes was almost 30, and they at least had different challanges that actually changes the gameplay.
Oh and Japan is definitely getting the better physical collection. Instead of the prop gold cartridge they are getting actual Famicom controllers included in their bundle
I’m actually looking forward to it. It could be a huge letdown but the combo of nes remix/NWC type play could be cool.
I was really hoping that this game would be more like an "NES Remix Ultimate Edition".
They really should have done that instead.
It looks fun to me but I grew up on the NES. And 30 bucks for the game isnt bad, 60 isnt bad for a bunch of extras as well.
Now I know why Mario 99 went away.
Honestly, i kind of feel that the game is probably made initially as a download-only game by a western team, but Nintendo Japan themselves gave it a slightly higher budget. i'm kind of curious if they'd make specially-sized Switch capacity sizes to cut their loss+push out old stock. have to say this though, at least it was probably somewhat received OK by the audience compared to Everybody 1-2-Switch. it's *kinda* there, at least from a general classical retro-Nintendo feel, but this isn't NES Remix, it kind of looks pretty stale and lacks heart behind it. the only grace it had was that at least it was revealed (pretty much fully. as in all 13 games+modes) including its release date spared it from being eaten alive in June 2024's direct had it been revealed there, there'd be no other prominent targets other than Mario Party. assuming there isn't anything ultra-unexpected, like a Luigi's Mansion Remastered, Prime 2 or that supposed Fire Emblem Geneaology remake. (only mention was in the initial off-screen leak of Engage. think the games' internal numbering for the series also counts Heroes and possibly remakes but skipped a number since it's marked as the 19th title, but no projects used 18. either meaning 18 got cancelled or held back, and Engage took its place)
Honestly, i'm hoping they're not tying this to the future of the NES Remix series. and to bring up the cheapness angle again, Nintendo did a limited-time Physical release of the first Fire Emblem which had a coded English translation...that utilized the Wii U-era emulator, but it had a time-limited code that'd expire. guess at least Nintendo Championship (presumably) comes on cart. 🤷♂
it's a fun release but it's a pass for me too... not a big fan of bite sized timed trials and the game seems way too short... but the physical collector's edition looks dope, better act fast scalpers going to have a field day with that...

The game is nothing like the game competition in the actual tournament. This looks like an even less inspired NES Remix. As someone who competed in the original NWC 1990, I'm kinda disappointed.
It seems like they just want to use the name recognition without actually recapturing what made the events special
