Hi, back with another collection video and this time it's the Wii U! Like some of our other collections, we were working at Nintendo for the entirety of the Wii U generation (for better or worse). We definitely have a bit of trauma from the sad Wii U days but the Wii U really did have some amazing games that found a new home on Nintendo Switch. What do you think? Did you like Wii U? What were some of your favorite games?

#nintendo #wiiu #gamecollection - Hry
Krysta might yeet games away, but she's fully aware that unsealing a game is one step too far 😂💖
No she's not, she was about to do it.
13:10 Everyone watching was surely preparing for Krysta to toss Color Splash, but she held back on her rage LOL
....only to toss Amiibo Festival shorty after. 😆
Ik the Wii U was a flop but it'll always have a special place in my heart, that era of Nintendo was special too. All the different skits they were doing, robot chicken collab?!!! I regret selling it so much, i might have to pick one up again some day, it's an amazing emulation device too. Always thought the Gamepad had some serious potential, i hope they bring back that dual screen implementation someday.
Early Wii U years were fun. I loved Miiverse and the art community was a place I was very fond of. Good times.
Yeah, I hope we get a variation of Miiverese on the next console. It really made games feel a lot more social with the integration. Playing Wind Waker and responding to messages asking for help in bottles was super fun.
I think I'm exactly the target demographic for the Switch bc I used to haul my entire Wii U to work with me everyday and clunkily play Xenoblade Chronicles X in "handheld mode" 😂 The text was near impossible to read, but I didn't care. Loved that game too much lol
We’re you a security guard? How’d you get away with playing games all day? Lol
You know, Nintendo had handheld systems before the Switch. Did you own a 3DS?
The WiiU and 3DS have a special place in our family’s heart. It’s what brought all of us together. They’re designed as a family get together fun experience. Thanks for sharing all the info.
Spill the devils third development lore!
I loved Black Flag on Wii U! In the options you could move all the hud elements to the gamepad, leaving the tv as pure immersive glory.
There's a lot I love about the Wii U, one of the core memories I have from it is working a cover shift for some guy at the call center from 5:00AM to 8:00AM (Yeah, 3 hours on a Sunday) and coming back home to everyone still sleeping, and just using the gamepad with headphones to play Breath of the Wild. Those early hour cold morning gaming times are very cozy.
1. Glad to see Nintendo hosting the Bayonetta IP in a proper way, letting the devs make the game they wanted to make and eventually making a third entry (with the Cereza's spin-off), unlike Microsoft's acquisition spree (It's Rare all over again).
2. We NEED to know what happened during Devil's Third development, honestly it was such a wild card of a tittle that I kind of hopped would turn our decent at worst and at best a thriving multiplayer for the Wii U. Guess it was MUCH worse than that...
3. The Wii U Pro Controller IS a sleeper hit for me. 40 hour battery life and great buttons, we can argue the lack of analogue triggers and the right stick placement but the entire Wii/U ecosystem was mostly built off for that, so it's not really the controller in itself. And I use it on PC for casual play so it's great.
4. Hopefully we get the ports of whatever titles are "exclusive" on Wii U currently. Considering both the manufacturing of the console and the e-shop ended their service, it just makes sense to bring them back up again. Maybe it's just nintendo trying to avoid "giving the exact same experience as before" but honestly it's fine. Adding anything on top to avoid a "full re-release" is neat but shouldn't be a full-stop impediment from porting the titles.
Great collection! Better keep those closed! That retirement fund is only going to grow exponentially.
Yes please do an amiibo collection! We would love to see it!
Lego City Undercover, amazing family friendly lego version of basically a GTA game
The Wii U was ahead of its time, it offered backwards compatibility with Wii Games you could play games in HD, it had a game pad that you could play your game while the family could watch other things on the tv. It flopped because of bad marketing strategy but it was not a bad console, it was the beginning of the Switch concept. It also had a lot of classic games for purchase including DS games which still not available on the Switch.
I love the Wii U! Still have mine hooked up, and I think the Switch wouldn't be as big without the Wii U's great games! Breath of the Wild, Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 all started on Wii U!
Before the WiiU shop closed. I actually picked up the legend of Zelda breath of the wild for WiiU. It was a Zelda game worth having since it originated first on WiiU.
Really have been enjoying these collection videos! I still have many fond memories of the Wii U, particularly playing Smash Bros, Wind Waker HD, and Breath of the Wild.
Nintendo Land might not have been a phenomenon like Wii Sports was, but I'm pretty sure 99% of gamers would agree it was a much better experience.
And 100% better than the Switch tech demo game, 1-2 Switch.
@@SuperPaperPokemon Ageed, I never even bothered picking it up.
Great game and tons of fun. We still play it now and then. Great for parties and introducing games to new people
Lololol
Introduced it to my nieces/nephews because it’s something I knew they wouldn’t have played before, and I never really had anyone to play it with. They ended up loving it! Particularly the Luigi’s Mansion mini-game and Mario Chase. Also Zelda, but I save that for when only one is over, since it’s not fair to play 1/2-player games when there’s 4-5 kids over, lol.
I know there's a lot of hate for the Wii U but that's one of my favorite Nintendo consoles and it always makes me sad it was short lived. Between Mii Verse, virtual console, an amazing library, backward compatibility and fun gimmick when used right, it remains my most used retro console. It's always plugged in to my tv right next to my switch.
My favorite games were Nintendo Land, Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World.
The wii u will always have a special place in my heart because its where i bought Monster Hunter 3U and met online friends that i still game with to this day
Man, the tea on Devil’s Third must be crazy 😂 Great collection video as usual!
I loved the Wii U and I definitely had some amazing times playing with friends. Might have been the last time I was able to do that ever but we’ll see. You also can’t beat the Wii U lineup, just solid titles, no bs
The Wii U was and is hands down one of my favorite Nintendo Consoles. Fight me for saying this, but i was an early adopter of Wii U and the console had some true bangers. Not to mention we got DS ports to wii u. Golden sun, Phantom hourglass are two amazing examples.
Love the start up sound to the Wii U. Thing is the first party software had absolute gems!!!
I will say, for all the mid games and unsuccess of the WiiU....I had that thing for 3/4 years and it always felt "new." Futuristic almost. That gamepad was something else in the mid-2010s. I do agree the handheld switch could have REALLY used its ergonomics.
10:15 guys! You CAN play Star Fox Zero with a traditional control scheme. You just have to enable it in the options menu. I wish that more people knew about this! The game is highly enjoyable!!!
I looove my wii u. It was the first console i bought and the one i was the most hype for, even when it had such a small amount of games the ratio of bangers to duds is still impressive.
Krysta wanting to unseal the unsealed copy of Twilight Princess HD is hilarious 😅
I know! my heart stopped
I still have my Wii U games within reach, and a Wii U buried in a pile somewhere... I really wanted this system to succeed but alas
I found ZombiU to be rather difficult, it was almost like a souls game where if you died all the belongings collected remained at that location until the next character could pick it up. I really wasn’t ready for that type of gameplay at the time.
SOOOO many hours playing MarioKart, Smash and BOTW! Also was how i got to initially play, Twilight Princess, since it was getting expensive on Gamecube and Wii.
Black Flag on Wii U was my first experience with an Assassin's Creed game and I was immediately hooked. I think the only reason I even got it in the first place is because I got a really good deal as part of a digital bundle. Maybe from humblebundle? Something like that. I never would have tried it otherwise. I've played several others since then, and I'm so glad for my first jump into the franchise!
i remember the wii u launch. so excited to get one as a kid for christmas, I was the only defender of this thing at my school since all my friends had Xbox and PS4 consoles LOL
I actually have a lot of positive memories of the Wii U of playing games like Mario 3D World and MK8 with my friends in high school before we all went off to college. I also played my first playthrough of Breath of the Wild on Wii U, and loved it!
One of the best features of the original Mario Maker was scanning amiibos and playing levels as that character. If there’s a Mario Maker 3 I hope this feature comes back.
I was so excited for the new Zelda game when they announced it back in E3 2014 that it made me buy a Wii U later that year. I still enjoyed owning a Wii U, even though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was delayed until 2017. The console had great games like Wind Waker HD, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Splatoon, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
Zelda Twilight Princess is my favourite Zelda game of all time also next year it will be the 10th anniversary of splatoon since it first started in 2015.
I'll say again, yes to these collections videos. They are great fun.
I was later to Wii U. As was sadly common, I remember at first thinking it was an accessory for the Wii. Not really understanding why I'd want it. I ended up getting it just before it's final year and did really enjoy it. It was also by _far_ the best way to play Wii games, IMO.
Also, loved Lego City Undercover. I lets played that and it took years (took time off), but great game. I own it on multiple systems.
I will always remember the WiiU as the TV remote I could never ever lose
I was 1 of the Wii U users, those were some rough years for Nintendo fans. 😂😂😂
Would love to see a switch collection, even your digital titles!
I’d like to see your Amiibo, GBA and Switch collections.
Be careful with using that Xenoblade Chronicles X USB stick as I remembered a video about it at some point.
Was it this one?

Personally Nintendo Land was my favorite besides Splatoon 1. It really came alive with friends over. I hope they make a sequel someday. Can think of ways it would work great with single screen portable consoles
Also Skylanders released in 2011 and then Amiibo in November 2014. So while Amiibo wasn't the first it did offer some cool figurines that unfortunately never received a dedicated game to play them (something Iwata wanted early on for them not to be a paywall for experiences, just unique skins, etc). The Wii U existed at the height of Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego Dimensions, and Amiibo. It wasn't until the Switch that Toys to Life died when we would get Skylanders Imaginators, the final game, on a console that could read the figures without a portal. You could also save the figure data to the game which was cool, but my only gripe about the Switch release was that if you had a huge Skylander collection, the character selection screen was terrible. If a developer wants to go patch that I would hugely appreciate it. ;)
My Wii U is still plugged in just because of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. Still play those games from time to time.
Starr Fox Zero had quite a learning curve, but when it clicks, it's a pretty great time. The all-rang mod is where the dual screen set up shies and certain boss fight designs wouldn't have be fair without that target view to indicate the start up of a forcefield or laser that isn't in your direct field of view. Dogfights don't need a minimap or icon indicators thanks to 3D audio and the expanded visual access to the battlefield. It'd be interesting to see some concepts carry over from it if a future entry comes along.
I enjoyed the Wii U, I don't care what anyone says about it. The games on that thing were fun. It even had some fun digital titles too.
Apparently, unpopular opinion, I LOVE the Wii U! 😃
Playing my 3DS while I watch your guy's content ♡
Thanks for sharing! This series is a lot of fun to watch. Amiibo would be a great next one.
The reason I love the Wii U
Is because some of the features of it like the Wii and the TV channel and how much more streaming service it has over the switch the games are also very fun my Wii U collection is bigger than my switch collection. I find myself playing the Wii U more than my switch
And in someways, I think the Wii U
Is better than the switch
I absolutely love my Wii U and still have it hooked up to this day. I actually have two Wii Us, because my original Gamepad permanently died in 2018 and only the GameStop by my job had a replacement - but they wouldn’t just sell me the GamePad. The said I had to buy the whole console for $100.
Anyway, to this day, I still play it whenever I want to play old Wii and Wii U games, and I have a good collection. Mario Galaxy 2 for example, isn’t available on any platform except Wii and Wii U, and I’m glad I have the means to play it still.
After Metroid Dread came out and I beat it, I went back to buy and beat both Metroid Fusion and the Metroid 1 GBA remake on Wii U virtual console.
I’ve been playing Wii U well into the Switch’s life. When the pandemic hit I bought Wooly World and a bunch of old DS games through the Wii U virtual console.
Xenoblade Chronicles X was sooooooo good! I've been so upset that they haven't done a new one for Switch. Maybe for the Switch successor? One can hope.
Miss this console :(
Splatoon was so much fun. I remember when the Demo came out and my girlfriend played it all day and kept asking me if I wanted to try it. Just by seeing the gameplay I knew I was going to love it so I waited until the full release.
One of my biggest regrets is selling all of my wii y games cause I want them all back now!
Wii U was awesome, still is.
I was a BIG supporter of the Wii U the whole time! Got a Super Mario 3D World Bundle with Nintendo Land and my wife got the Super Mario Brothers Deluxe U, we have about 90 of the best games and am lucky to have Devil's Third, and Book of Unwritten Tales two games that are super sought after now! I'm sad I had to rebuy all these games on the Switch but I don't regret it as I love the Switch aswell and have a huge collection aswell.
Pikmin 3 was my first Pikmin game and I think the first Wii U game I ever played. I finished the game and loved it, it’s what got me into the Pikmin franchise ♥️ I got the Wii U in 2021 (garage sale pickup) mostly just for the Zelda HD games, but fell in love with a handful of other titles as well. I adore Yoshi’s Wooly World and wish they would bring it to the Switch!
Xenoblade X!!! 😍
I love Krysta's sweater
My love for the Wii U is unrivaled. I had many DS systems and a Wii prior to owning one but it was THE console that got me into the gaming sphere as a young teen, with unforgettable games like Mario Kart 8, Smash Wii U and Splatoon, and the Miiverse service, it truly felt like a second family.
I was thinking amiibo throughout the video, then I’m you mentioned it at the end. It has to happen!
Pikmin 3 later had more control options added. Stylus controls with the gamepad which helped. Star Fox Zero is pretty fun in Co Op, single player is tough.
Great Wii U Collection Video! :D I would love to see a Collection Video that is from a Non Nintendo System and see your opinions on each game tbh it would be a fun watch.
I'm so happy you did this episode! The Wii U is my favorite and my very FIRST Nintendo system I've ever gotten! ✨️
Personally , the Wii U was the Peak Era of charm throughout Nintendo history~☆
The only reason I know of you two was that I watched you on the Wii U GamePad. You seemed happier then. Now you could have said: New Super Mario Wii U was really cool because this was the first time we played Mario in HD, the graphics looked great, the game play was great and if someone has not yet played the DS or Wii NSMBs they would have loved this game. Zelda Wind Waker was cool to use the GamePad to view the maps. I didn't see in the video; Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, Rayman, Pokken Tournament, DuckTales, Mario and Sonic Rio Olympic Games, Sonic Lost World, Lego Hobbit, Lego Star Wars, Lego Dimensions. Wii U is a fun console with plenty of great games which is very under rated. MiiVerse was really fun to interact with Nintendo fans.
Amiibo Festival the best game WIIU ever made
Finally WiiU is getting love! Thanks ❤
Amiibo collection would be awesome!!
The Switch can go out with a bang by releasing Wind Waker HD. Oh, and Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remake 😊😊😊
The Wii U Pro controller was pretty nice for it's time. The main appeal was the form factor and 72 hour battery life, something still unheard of today on any other console. I loved it for Mario Kart, Super Mario 3D World and others, but the main downside were games requiring the GamePad to play. It was always a bummer to be comfortable on the couch at night, start a game, and then realize it needed the GamePad and then needing to get up as there was no backing out of the game at that point.
Had so much fun playing Yoshi's Wooly World with my sister! That was a great game, truly. I'm glad they brought a similar experience to Switch with Yoshi's Crafted World.
Skylanders came out before Amiibo.
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure October 2011
First Amiibo: November 2014
I remember that one Nintendo Treehouse for Amiibo Festival with the director Aya Kyogoku where she admitted that the only reason she worked on that game was because she wanted Animal Crossing Amiibo made. If you go back and watch that Treehouse at an E3, she says exactly that.
I started relatively late in the Wii U journey in 2016 but it became my favorite system. I'm so sad it's all over now, but thankfully still have the memories.
Still praying for Xenoblade X on switch hopefully announced by the end of this year, if not, atleast on the switch 2. That will be what convinces me to buy one at launch
Great collection showcase as usual! I'd personally love to see your guys' Amiibo Collection, there's so many unique and cool ones that've come out over the decade lifespan of them
Top 10 Wii U Games:
1) Kirby's Rainbow Curse
2) Yoshi's Wooly World
3) Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
4) Bayonetta 2
5) Super Smash Bros. Wii U
6) Zelda Wind Waker
7) Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
8) Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
9) Super Mario 3D World
10) Sonic Lost World
Smash Bros U was also the first Smash Bros to ADD characters after release which felt like a big deal. I think it kept hype around the game going for a lot longer - especially when we saw characters like Cloud and Ryu get added.
24:06 I loved this game. It was fun! There was a glitch to get more ammo but it got patched.
No love for Tropical Freeze? It was a great game and I still need to defeat the last boss! Great video btw. I still have mine hooked up, so many good games. Many hours spent playing, remembering Miiverse those who know know ha! Love to know the story about Devils Third. It was a good game and I played the online when it was around.
My brother and I grew up on the NES to Gamecube eras, then he went off to college. The Wii came out when I was living in shared housing with college friends and we all had fun together.
The Wii U unfortunately came out at a time when I had just gotten married (summer 2011) and my wife and I were getting our place set up and were busy with other things. We also didn't have an HDTV yet so while I was interested in the Wii U there wasn't much point when it first launched, especially when I still had Gamecube and Wii games to catch up on, and a gaming PC. We finally got a high def TV in 2013 but then we moved several times and were just busy.
I finally got a used Wii U right before the Switch came out because I didn't want to get them out of order. I even got Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD with the wolf Link amiibo along with other games. But then I was having so much fun with the Switch I just never got around to playing my Wii U much.
I think people still underestimate the soul that was the WiiU. It was the only experience as a Nintendo gamer where you could connect on console and chat with the friends that you meet online, which was still free to say the least. It was the best social experience as a Nintendo player that a fan could ask for.
The Switch gutted all of that and is starting to do that with the social networks of X and Facebook.
Everyone talks about the boring corporate sales side but when you're alone with your system at home, who cares? These days, there is so much focus on sales that people forget about the actual fun of the game experience, missing the entire point. It's like saying Avatar is the best movie of all time just because it is highest grossing. You could not be further from the mark.
This was one system I was glad I was too poor to afford when it came out back in high school. Although I am sad I never got to play Winder Waker HD since the original was my most influential childhood video game.
Lego City Undercover was an absolute BANGER! If you didn't have that game, you were sleeping on a great game!
nice to see you both still give wii u attension still love this system so much still play it time to time did not even finish all games after switch and ps5 came out but its oke because i can still enjoy it fully like donkey kong . Tokio mirrages session and got to play also luigi bros version . and still playing some from nintendo 64 and older system like final fight so fun keep it up love to follow you both love your video's ❤
My favorite Wii U games were Super Mario Bros. U, Super Smash Bros., DK Country Returns, Yoshi's Wooly World, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Xenoblade X, Splatoon, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker (I want those two on Switch. Such good games). I love to see another fantastic collection of yours. Thanks a lot🙏🙏
P. S. Krysta, you have to stop chucking those games. That game might be worth hundreds someday, despite how terrible it is😅
my kids and I love nintendoland it's the one game we always go back to even to this day 🎉 dust off the wii u i still love it
You guys should totally do a video talking about working on the splatoon mess fest event! Something I always think about when looking back at splatoon 1 hehe
Are they missing the WiiU version of Breath of the Wild? That’s kind of a big one for a complete WiiU collection.
Amiibo Festival is great 😎
Great if you want a Mario Party game with barely any minigames, weak competition, boring day to day cutscenes, and having Amiibos as a requirement rather than an option. Otherwise, just play Happy Home Designer or any of the Mainline Animal Crossing games.
I love seeing your game collections
The Wii U still would've flopped (in a early PS3 struggle type way) but it would've been interesting to see a reality where it cost ~$500-550 and was as or slightly more powerful than the launch PS4; and it included maybe a normal controller 🎮 gamepad on top of the Wii U game pad. Have the Wii U be the high end expensive console versus the cheaper PS4/Xbox One. Imagining seeing a game like Star Wars Battlefront 2015 or other third party support on Wii U would've been something amazing. But at the same time as a kid I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it then. My Splatoon 1 and Mario Maker memories are worth more
Gba, I heard in the pod you kit has a big collection. Love the gba, favorite Nintendo handheld.
Thanks for the video 🙏✨
I’m glad that Krysta tossed Amiibo Festival. As an Animal Crossing fan, I don’t see myself defending Amiibo Festival even before I play it. It’s a Mario Party clone with barely any minigames really dull gameplay progress, and Amiibos being a requirement and not an option for this game.
One thing people keep forgetting is the tail at the end is an S so it's actually "Super Mario 3D Worlds"
I loved the Wii U so much. I understand it didn’t sell well and was considered a flop, but MAN I had a lot of fun with it. I am in the process of collecting older systems that I had gotten rid of and Wii U is next on my list lol.
Let’s see the amiibo collection next! I am also in the process of getting the smash set as they rerelease lol
Finally a collection worth watching
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival deserved that throw. That game was AWFUL.
Calling it a game is insulting to even the most garbage games out there
