If you think Amazon is bad, remember how GameStop would unwrap a game, put an unremovable sticker on the case, remove the game so an employee can "test" it... Then sell the game to you full price as "new"...

Regarding the bootleg sd card: Most bootlegs operate in a way that the card has a much smaller capacity like 16 or 32 GBs, but it's programmed to show up as a genuine 1 TB one. That way, there aren't any suspicions instantly, and the first few files that are created will work fine (as they fall within those 16-32 GBs), but when your data exceeds this actual capacity, it's just corrupted. So yeah. I'm sorry that happened, hopefully this can make you be aware of it more in the future.

I hope scott and anyone else who saw the SD Card portion of the vid see this comment.
Another thing to note is transfer speeds are probably going to be garbage in comparison to what you'd normally get. So you might not even be able to record in eg. 4k at all, or even if you can getting the data off will be a pain in the ass from waiting.

I had an issue with Amazon sending me a $150 collector's edition game to my house...without an outer box. They just slapped a shipping label on the game box itself, the corners got completely crushed in and there were scuff marks all over it from getting jostled around in the FedEx truck.
Customer service's response when I brought all this up to them? "Why didn't you select the option to have it ship in an Amazon box then?" This was a pre-order from a year prior to them implementing their "You can opt-out of a box for whatever reason!" shipping option, and trying to explain that to customer service was like trying to pull teeth.

The problem with Amazon is that all their stock is mixed together. If 10 sellers are selling the same SD card, they'll just put all of them together in the warehouse and take one at random if one is sold by any of those sellers. If a single one is selling fake SD cards, then any of those 9 other sellers can unwillingly sell you a bootleg, so it's extremely difficult to know exactly who are actually selling fakes and who are just victims. Of course, Amazon being Amazon, they won't just make a better inventory of their stock to make it easier to recognize where everything is coming from, so they just ignore the problem, hoping it'll just go away (or more likely, not caring because it's cheaper to pay back a few hundreds people every day than actually solving the problem).

So I buy an item from a seller, get shipped the same item from a different seller, who may have even priced it differently.
But then even though I bought from X seller but am receiving Y's product. X seller still gets the sale? As soon as it goes into Amazon's warehouse and gets marked as Used or New, they get sorted into a bin and it literally doesn't matter who I buy from?
Meaning you should quite literally always buy the cheapest option because regardless of the individual sellers quality levels, Amazon's gonna sell me whatever they have even if it's not from the seller?
That sounds like a logistical nightmare and absolutely absurd from the customer service perspective.

I sell on Amazon, and I HATE the people who do stuff like that. I know, even as a seller, getting Amazon to actually do something is harder than pulling teeth, from a crocodile, with your bare hands, but I still usually at least try. I know you probably don't have the time, and don't want to mess with it, but if you report sellers and/or leave negative feedback (on the seller's page, not the product), it can help sometimes. Selling a game that doesn't match the region the page shows is against the TOS.
In the case of the bootleg, use the word "fake" in the reason for the return. That will automatically put a black mark on their account and prevent them from ever selling through that listing again unless they prove to Amazon that their stuff is real. Granted, for every scammer or listing that gets taken down, two new listings and scammer accounts get made, but... Still.
For buying, my rule of thumb is to make sure it is either sold by Amazon or at least shipped by Amazon via the "Fulfilled by Amazon" program. That may be ironic since, as a seller, I do fulfilled by merchant (myself). If you have to go with a third party doing fulfilled by merchant, make sure to look at the seller's profile for feedback first.

    • @neighborhoodthreattv
      @neighborhoodthreattv Před 27 dny +18

@2-Way_Intersection Format upgrades are not always done properly, making the picture or sound worse despite being on a better disc, and some CDs and DVDs can rot over time. There's whole channels dedicated to criticizing these transfers, like Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader. Also, the special features do matter to some people, that's why they're there. In my case, I'm much more likely to buy a movie/show with (good) commentaries and/or making-of documentaries. Not to mention the region issue Scott mentioned in the video, the kind of case it comes in and the quality of it, any physical extras it may or may not come with, whether or not there was an error in the manufacturing or packaging process, etc. A lot of reissues have major differences, like with Futurama where the first and second issues of the Fox season DVDs have entirely different kinds of cases with different art that take up a different amount of space. Used movies also have the problem of seller reputation. At least three times I've bought a used movie or TV season and received either the wrong set entirely or the wrong disc in the set, most recently when I got two Two Towers Part 1 discs (one in place of Part 2) in my otherwise correct LOTR blu-ray extended set. Also, personally, anything I buy a physical copy of, besides games, I've already seen some other way, so actual reviews of the content of the movie are less than helpful to me.

Bootleg SD cards are often just generic smaller SD cards (maybe 32GB or 64GB, for example) that are modified in software so the computer/camera/etc think they are actually 1TB. After you fill the actual capacity of the card, it is forced to overwrite random data as you try to add more. This is why it worked at first and then the files got corrupted. There are testing utilities available online to determine the actual space available on SD cards.

The bottom line is to be open to as many sales as possible and focus on retention; customer be damned.

I ordered a Rosalina & Luma amiibo on Amazon, it was advertised as a Rosalina & Luma amiibo from the Smash series even had that image on the website. Was about 30 bones and they gave me a Rosalina amiibo from the Super Mario series.
I was considering returning it, but then Nintendo restocked Rosalina & Luma and I picked that up with a few other Smash amiibo I was missing and kept the Rosalina just on the off chance I would never had the chance for the Super Mario series one

Online sellers sending a different region game from the one shown in the stock picture is the reason I stopped buying new games from them. Where I am from we use a site similar to Ebay. People selling their used games always add real pictures of the game on top of the stock photo, so you are guaranteed to get the correct region.
Thankfully though I found a place that actually cares about this shit and will mark anything non-american with the region in brackets at the end of the title (and uses the correct region picture). I've been buying my new games from them ever since.

Amazon doesn’t even let you ask questions about products to the community/seller anymore.
I was trying to find out if Persona 3 Reload Aigis Edition would include the preorder bonus DLC if I didn’t preorder it. Played it on game pass and enjoyed it enough that I would buy the special edition if it came with that dlc.
Easy question right? NOPE. Amazon tries to use an AI to answer your question by just reading back the product description to you, then it will finally submit the question to the seller….. which they never answer.
I can only imagine the headache of asking “hey is this game NTSC?” and getting no response so you have to roll the dice.

For those wondering. The bootleg SD cards are actually smaller than the sticker, like 32GB or 64GB. They program the controller on them to tell a computer or electronic that it's 1TB, so the device will keep writing, and since it's smaller, it will write over the existing data, corrupting it.

A few takeaways everyone should know:
    1. Amazon is still probably good for general products, there's a lot of good stores for specialized shopping. (I.E. Micro Center for computers, Sweetwater for music, and B&H for content creation).
    2. Never trust bootlegs.
    3. Always save at crucial points of and back-up your work.
    4. I wouldn't trust SSD cards for long-term storage. You either buy a good External storage device or invest in a heavy-duty system involving cloud back-ups combined with NAS storage and duplicating the hdds, especially for really big projects.

My parents--I mean the Easter Bunny got me Nier:Replicant and Hollow Knight this year and both were somehow the European ones.
I also have Hollow Knight at the end of my Switch games.

I've actually had the opposite, I'm from Australia and ordered Powerwashing Simulator through Amazon. The image had the Pegi rating, I didn't care. When it arrived, it actually had the Australian rating on it. I was confused but pleased.

I’m lucky to have only ordered 1 game from Amazon (Mario Wonder) and it was correct. But seeing this and reading the testimonies is making me think buying games from them isn’t a good idea.

The problem with selling the pal copies is that while yes, the game isn’t region locked, any DLC Codes are region locked. Found that out the hard way when I got FFVII Remake Intergrade for Christmas and I couldn’t use the download code for the DLC.
