Back when I occasionally bought things I couldn't find elsewhere from them, I got: 2 oil covered and very sticky PlayStation 2 DualShock controllers 1 copy of Mario Kart Super Circuit where the entire PCB was completely and totally corroded away, every pin, every chip, every component destroyed, and completely covered inside with still wet mud. Several Game Boy games in various states of disrepair and not working, that I had to personally repair, most of which were dirty. Every cartridge game required some level of repair, usually soldering. Etc... etc.. These were from their "good" condition stock.
ya i ordered 3 games from them gta v skyrim and saints row 3 for ps3 and gta v did not work ironically they sent me a replacement after i complained about it which this copy works perfectly fine but the weird part is the copy that worked looked worse on the shiny part of the disk than the one that didnt work!
their social media marketing is very good. Any unsuspecting person would see the friendly / fun videos they put up and think DKO is a good company worth supporting
Last year I ended up buying a bunch of wii games from them because they had a large amount of em, and the weird games I wanted were maybe $4-$15 a piece. Everything else was absurdly overpriced but I knew if I got a fucked up game disk then I had a company to yell at instead of a random dude on ebay. So unfortunately yeah even outside of the console shit they're still making some money.

This isn't the first time that DKoldies has sent really clean and nice consoles. They sent good looking consoles to CZcamsr to Rich from ReviewTechUSA. He only knew that they did because someone that worked or is working from DKoldies told him what he ordered in an email and said they gave him clean consoles. They said if it wasn't him but a regular person they would of sent him a non refurbished console. That would have been untouched and just sent through the mail. So they send You Tubers refurbished consoles as a marketing ploy to get people to order from them.
I can't believe people order from them... I manage an indie video game store and we sell GBAs (cleaned and really refurbished) for $80 and GB/GBP go for like a $100 CAD I can't believe what the market in the US is, these online stores really are pushing it.

DKOldies appeared to be parting out complete in box games and selling the boxes and manuals separate in bulk on Ebay. I don't know why they would do this, since a complete in box game is worth more than it's parts in most circumstances. My guess is their customers are only interested in loose carts and/or won't pay whatever outrageous prices they charge for CIB games.

On a side note, I would swap out that D-grade back cover and put it on the mint original Game Boy that you got, since it's the only part that doesn't look bad.

I saw Joey from dkoldies atva Momocon a couple of years ago. We were chatting and he seemed pretty friendly. We happened to be staying at the same hotel so i met him at the bar for drinks. I got a little tipsy so i followed him unto his room. He came out of the bathroom naked, greased up wearing a piggy mask and he chased me around the room trying to fit a wiimote up my bum.
I will say that the quality of there handheld at acceptable quality has gone up, I ordered a gameboy color in acceptable semi recently (2-3 months ago) and it was almost mint the only thing off about it was the battery cover had been replaced, there were almost no scratches on it and it read my games almost perfectly so quality has gone up the gba you got was their now acceptable quality and the dmg maybe if it was missing a battery cover and that is what they substituted it with

Perhaps if they are out of D grade, or whatever you order, you get the next tier up. It's not like they are going to take a loss, just less profit and it looks better to receive something good than a refund. What bothers me is the "refurbishment". To me that means replacing anything consumable or wears to the point it impacts function. If I was doing the refurbishment the button membranes would be replaced, possibly switches and very likely any cartridge ports. The PCB would be cleaned thoroughly and an optional screen replacement offered if it was sub par condition. Giving it a wipe sometimes is not a refurbishment.
There are 2 things I will say about DK Oldies: 1) After everything hit the fan last year, they did update their refurbishing process. I don't know to what degree however 2) They might have you listed as a potential reviewer, as they are known to send out good quality items to people who do reviews as a negative review will give them the most negative visibility. Based on these 2 things, I think that is why you got such good looking quality consoles. If you want to test them in the future, you should have them send it to a friend's address and pick it up from there.

For 30$ at Fleamarket I got 2 gba, psp 3k silver and 2 dsi. All working just missing battery cover. Then some dude had a bag of 8 gba and sp and gbc shells and buttons screws for 5$.

They don't know what the term "refurbished" means... it means to fix up the product inside AND outside, so it looks like new. So really they can never send you a product with scuff marks if it was refurbished. They should call it a "repaired" product.

I just recently purchased a PS2 off of eBay for $125. It came with varying scratches but nothing that can be scuffed out. And the kicker is, it was never opened lol. I looked on DK oldies knowing full well what I was getting into and after seeing their prices I decided to go a different route. To think just 2 years ago I would have probably bought something from them but knowing what I know now I'm going to steer clear of them to the best that I can unless something is at a decent price.

Backlight screens were propably still very expensive, also previous models had no light and were selling like hot buns. Later models, like GBA SP, had switchable light, but because it was a frontlight screen with LEDs, the result was only somewhat acceptable. Look for "Game Boy Advance GBA Backlight IPS vs Frontlight Side by Side Comparison.", you'll see how bad those screens were at the time this console was released (custom backlight for original screen VS modern IPS replacement).
Honestly, the difference in price between good and acceptable isn’t crazy. It’s only about $50. That’s not a real high number. Plus, it’s much harder to source nice cosmetic condition systems these days.

I think its the QC seal, its pretty standard that you get a QC engineer/packer to sign off on product for shipments. Maybe 'D' is just who packed it?

Are GB systems really hitting those prices? They are expensive where I live but doesn't reach 100€, not even close, and I found them in good condition overall, I already have a duplicate of all models lol
