  • The 2022 Honda Civic is now out and it's quite unbelievably good, if you ask me. This is probably the best Compact Hatch on the market today and these are not big words. Why? Check out my thoughts on the new hybrid Civic in this video.

A very good review. I agree with you. I had a test drive with the new Civic last week. Very impressive car. E-CVT cannot be compared to usual CVT. It's totally different experience. High reps no speed has gone. Instant torque is available from the very beginning.

I ve got mine now almost 2 months, Best civic ever by a mile. Very efficient, I ve got 2500 km and average consumption is 5 liters per 100km. I Have the Elegance driving in Normal mode, usually I try Econ mode, but in the winter its better to use normal, because Econ reduces the whole climat control to a minimum.

Excellent practical review. I'd definitely be going for this car in the C segment. I was very impressed with it in the metal, apart from a wobbly center console and storage cover. Although I think they had lost their way in previous generations and models, I think Honda have nailed the styling with this Civic. Reminds me of older Accords and even the Prelude but with a really modern twist. The physical controls are a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively). Honda have out-germaned the German competition with perceived quality. Keep up the great work with these reviews

There is no CVT gearbox. There is no gearbox at all in this car :)
Some of that noise is due to Pilot Sport tires, which have great grip, but also are quite noisy.

The sistem is similar in execution to an e-CVT setup.

@@GabrielNica Feel may be similar, but there is no gearbox which is HUGE difference (maintenance, complexity etc).
Here is long explanation how Honda's system work.
This car has no gearbox in any shape.
It's all simulated and extra faked in SPORT mode buy special unit which can't be turned off (but can be disconnected by 10min DIY). "Gears" in this car is a modulation of the current which powers electric motor.
It's basically an electric car, which most of the time is driven by quite powerful electric motor. Only at specific scenarios (calm, steady ride at around 70-140Km/h) system can switch to direct drive by petrol engine (through simple clutch, aka. 6th gear). Any acceleration, hill etc and you back to hybrid mode where electric motor powers wheels and petrol engine just powers generator and battery. In case of any sudden need for extra power system will use generator (so also petrol engine) + stored battery power.
This car never uses both engines at the same time to drive wheels! It's fundamentally different system to Toyota's.
Whole idea is based on fact that petrol engine is mostly disconnected from wheels and can operate at optimal conditions close to maximum engine efficiency (2-3K RPM). Any surplus of energy is stored in battery for later use. This is key secret of this drive system. Typical petrol car operates at relatively low efficiency which changes through the drive and about never reaches optimal value. Here petrol engine, is most of the time, close to its optimal working point, so petrol usage is relatively low (recuperated energy helps further). System is so clever, that when you drive steadily on petrol engine directly and battery gets full, it will switch petrol engine off and instead of wasting new energy it will drive purely from energy stored in battery (even if we drive eg. 120Km/h). Once battery discharges (not close to 0 , but to safe value to prolong its life) petrol engine turns itself on and whole cycle repeats. Petrol engine never slows or speeds too much as this would mean leaving optimal working condition (and burning even 2x more fuel). Instead we either store extra energy in battery or take it from battery (surplus of energy stored earlier or from recuperation). Plain simple at the end. Even recuperation works efficiently as wheels are connected directly with powerful electric motor (no gearbox). Extra good news is that petrol engine is never stressed too much, but operates steadily around its optimal conditions. Thanks to all of this Honda offers warranty up to 300K km as there is not much to break (electric motors are rather reliable parts). We will see how it translates to real life.

@Unsolicited Opinions there is no gearbox, honda call it e cvt but it simply modifies the amount of current going to the electric motors. The petrol engine is connected via a single gear. Vanarama has a good video on this with an engineer from Honda who explains this properly.

Hello all! Can someone please clarify if Android auto is wireless or wired on EU models(advance spec)? I mean, I've seen a lot of reviews that claimed that it's wireless and others that claimed that it's wired. My dealer said it's wired so I did some research and found out that you can access some sort of diagnosis mode(press & hold Home+Volume+prev track for 5s) from wich you can activate the wireless function but when I test drove it, I only had 30min with the car and didn't bother with that. Thanks!
Edit: I've connected my phone via bt and the Android auto option was greyed out, so no wireless function on the model I drove (advance spec)

I have a ten year old Mk9 civic diesel just done 320 mile tourney in Scotland averaged 73 uk mpg.
      125000 miles on the clock
It had 3 new sets of tyres and new brake disks and 3 sets of brake pads.
If this mk 11 is as reliable then I would say it a reliable car.
However my diesel civic fuel efficiency is mile ahead.
I will just keep the current one until it stops.
Because nothing touches its fuel economy
