It was a great car but because of its size (was super tall and felt like it leaned when I drove) I didn't drive it as much as I had initially planned. After 2 years and 8k mi, I sold it to my dad and grabbed a 2013 Accord. Dad still has it and at 205k mi it's still going strong, and for pushing 20 it still looks great. I got a new mini 2 door hard top as a loaner while my car gets fixed. I asked if it had a cvt. The dealer said "no we dont use those any more" even mini is wise to how crappy cvts are. Now the auto has issues if i put it in green mode. Even though the car has 2300 miles on it. In green mode there is a shudder if im stopped on a hill. If i try to drive slow through a parking lot it drives real jerky. Kind of like a kid learning to drive stick. Its like the car does not know how to use a clutch. But put it in sport none of those issues and the car drives at about 800 more rpm when in sport. In green mode if im doing 15mph that car is under 1000rpm. Thats just too low. That trans will not last if the owner only drives in green. Even going up hills the car is about 1200 rpm at 45mph in green and 2000rpm in sport. Sport just operates car more normally.

      Shalom

  • @summushieremiasclarkson4700

    I agree with Honda on the decision to stick with timing belts in the American market especially, where people just don't do maintenance. The main things that fail on most engines are: Timing components, cooling systems (especially the water pump) and tensioners/pulleys. Forcing this into the maintenance schedule makes these cars a lot more reliable. Take BMWs for instance, if they had timing belts then BMW -ricers- customers would be forced to replace all of these, which are the most common failure points on drivetrains anyway. But then you'd have reliable BMWs, and that would be ridiculous.
    This is besides other advantages, including not having to worry about guide lubrication and wear, chain stretching, excessive chain noise and so on. Honda V6s are extremely smooth and refined for this exact reason.

    • @SnipesXxX
      @SnipesXxX Před 17 dny

      Timing chains are superior in every way. They last the life of the engine(200k+ miles with proper oil changes) unless there is a defect in the components. Most people are not going to change that timing belt when it's supposed to be, because it costs hundreds to replace if you don't do it yourself. I avoid any car that has a timing belt.

    • @summushieremiasclarkson4700
      @summushieremiasclarkson4700 Před 17 dny +1

      @@mrdave777 OK, in the case of most BMWs, the drivetrains are actually pretty solid. But Brad thinks his "ultimate driving machine" needs no maintenance, and BMW is happy to support his delusions, with absolutely ludicrous extended service intervals (18000 mi oil changes wtf). Typical failure points on most BMWs include the cooling system, lubrication gaskets and seals. My E60 545i for example, is famous for valve stem seals failing, along with other gaskets, not to mention thermostat and water pump. But it uses a timing chain, so no one bothers to fix these before they blow up. Maintain it like a toyota, and sure it'll be more expensive to maintain, but it'll last a heck of a long time, more than most people keep their cars. Also, avoid, avoid avoid Turbo BMWs that are not inline 6 engines, and even then do your research. The current crop of B58 engines seem to be rock solid, for instance.

    • @summushieremiasclarkson4700
      @summushieremiasclarkson4700 Před 17 dny

      @@SnipesXxX Read my comment more carefully. I never said timing chains aren't superior, but belts are cheap and easy to replace, and are a lot quieter and smoother. Most importantly, when you replace the belt, it makes it very easy to do all associated failure points on an engine except maybe valve adjustments (in the case of Honda engines). Not to mention, people have a belief that chains are lifetime. Yes, but the plastic guides are absolutely not. Usually they don't fail outright, but you will notice worse fuel economy due to loosening timing over the life of the vehicle.

    The only problem is the MDX is made in the US in the same factory where they make the Cadillacs which are assembled by the UAW(No thank you).
    The other problem is Honda still uses timing belts which need require replacement every 80K miles and it is expensive and often the current generation of dealer “mechanics” don’t do the job properly and don’t replace all the parts and bolts at least here in Riverside, California.
