Why Is A Used Acura SO Cheap???

  • If you're wondering why that used Acura is so cheap, I'm going to tell you why. It's not always good news either, as some of these reasons might have you rethinking that used car purchase! Acura has been associated with the Honda brand for a long time, and for good reason but that doesn't make it all the same when it comes to Acura reliability, prices, and features.

Acura styling is exciting yet subtle at the same time. Most of us who grew up with the brand are more than satisfied with Acuras new approach. Some say they are late to the party but I say they are just cautious not to jump into things early. How long have EVs and Hybrids been around? Long enough to think they would be perfected now...but yet here we are in 2024 and still having range issues. And the best EVs are not even available in the US because of our ongoing trade wars with China. Is this about the environment or money, I often wonder!

Acura talks about technology but their strength is engineering and never making anything overly complicated. I can take my MDX to Firestone for oil changes and basic services. My BMW X7 is Dealer only and if it throws a code my $450 service will turn into an $800 one.

As a long term Acura customer, I think you’re missing the point. I currently own a 2023 Acura TLX Types S and a 2024 Acura MDX Type S . The reason I went with the Acura is the balance of performance and long term reliability. I have owned as a S4 , Porsches as well. Tough to beat and for the price a good value. Also keep in mind , Acura backs their warranties unlike a lot other competitors like Audi or BMW. If this just about leasing a vehicle the German cars are provide more adrenaline, but owning them is a different story.

Toyota sticks to one formula and if it has kinks in it they work it out. They may get parts from other manufacturers however if they did not perform to their expectations they wouldn’t keep using them. The big three continually change and don’t perfect anything except below par mediocrity. Honda had me until they strayed from their formula. Acuras are overpriced and I am guessing overpriced to service. I will stick with Toyota because of their persistence to not stray from formula.

After giving back my car when the term was up, the integra just came out. When the dealer told me a base integra is more money than my loaded ilx, it was time to find a new brand. Then theres the rdx that everyone says is "good value". How is $1000/month for platinum elite a good value? That ilx i had was $450/month and literally had better performance 🤦‍♂️.

I seriously doubt many people would shop an Acura against a Mercedes or a BMW; those who seek Acuras do so mainly for Honda's reliability. Granted, it's not what it used to be based on recent surveys, but it's still better than the Germans. If I was in the market for an Acura, I would shop it against a Lexus, or maybe certain Hondas, Toyotas or Mazdas, but never a German brand (even less so a Volvo or a Range Rover!) In fact, I'd sooner consider a Genesis/Hyundai/Kia before any European brand.

Somebody fed you snake oil lol- unless you have significant engine mods and are tuned for 93 octane you do not have 240hp whatsoever.
Main issue with the ILX is the junk interior (it's literally from 2013 and every review laments how dated and cheap it is) and small interior space for the segment. It never gets an above average mark from the automotive writing scene- it's too damn old! I bought my 2022 MDX Tech in June 2021. It now has 22,000 miles and there have been no issues, no repairs, minimal maintenance. As you know, there was a major change to this vehicle starting with the 2022 model. After driving all the competitively priced SUVs with enough room for easily storing a wheel chair, the MDX was the most comfortable (I am 6’2’ and 220 lbs) for me and my wife, who likes to wear her hair in a pony tail and all the competition,s headrests interfered with her hair,
Pushing her head forward. The car is very responsive and accelerates quickly with no lag, handles very well (especially when enjoying a great road) for a 3 row SUV, is quiet and all the electronic gizmos work well. Lane centering and radar cruise control make driving effortless, especially in heavy stop and go traffic. The sound system is also magnificent when set properly. My previous cars were Audi A 6 Avants, each kept for 200,000 miles with few repairs and minimal maintenance and the MDX does not feel like a step down in any category. I prefer it to the Audi Q7 for many reasons. I suggest you drive a New MDX and see if your issues are present in the current models. It could be that as a former race driver my driving and maintenance schedule differ from your experiences. I do agree that the infotainment is awkward but for those of us with shoulder problems it eliminates the long reach to some touch screens. Each to his own, but I can’t really trust your reviews any more.

At first, I thought it was from opening trunk in rain but too much water, then lifted spare tire area and found inches. People say manuals are more reliable than autos but seeing my vehicle at 400k and how clutches generally go out by 200k made me reevaluate this belief as I gotta say auto can be just as reliable as manual if one regularly uses their e-brake w/ fluid changes.

A hybrid car with the same model is usually 10k more expensive than the gas version. But you are not going to save 10k on gas until 40,000km of driving mileage. Plus for gas models you only need to do oil change, while for hybrid you need to do both oil and battery. And don’t forget the battery is going to increase your insurance cost

I have a 2018 MDX with the infamous 9 speed and overall I don't like it at all but the tech told me he hasn't seen any major issues with them so I will see once I hit 100k soon how everything still feels and drives. I bought three Acura TL's and enjoyed every one of them, the best one was a 2009 TL SHAWD drove it to well over 200,000 miles, but the repair bill was more than the car was worth, so I had to settle for a Toyota for the last two years, just waiting for the prices of used cars to fall, but I have my eyes on a 2008 RL with 130,000 miles and it was a one owner, hoping the price will fall around June and July.
