I have owned performance BMWs for almost 30 years and have found them to be very high quality and fun to drive cars. My problem has been with the prices that the dealerships charge for services. I have an i8, with the butterfly doors, and I needed to replace the door struts after 7 years. The dealership quoted me $1000. I bought OEM struts on the Internet for $85 each and did it myself - it was easy. Two weeks ago I had the car in for an oil change and they said it was due for a new air filter. They wanted $250 for that! I bought the air filter for $32 and did it myself. That is why they are called stealerships.
I had a 2004 330i with the ZHP package (lotta M3 parts, just not the M3 motor), and that car was easy to work on. Kinda wish I’d kept it. Lolol

@@Bayliss21and it’s only 40k used
I mean it's not about the pricetag it's the choices they've decided on. Someone who rents a $3000-4000 apartment in the city can probably easily afford a Porsche Cayman or panamera at $1k a month but it turns out they live in NYC or San Diego and are actually middle class. The pricetag isn't everything and like Scotty said, the guy is young. Why not enjoy a car. He has all the time in the world to figure out if a wife and kids is right for him and maybe they're better off without! No losers in your situation or theirs

I own this car but the gran coupe version. The b58 is going to go down as one of the legendary engines
I couldn't find a grande coupe, so i got an m340i. That Grande Coupe is super rare out here.
How do you like the Gran Coupe? I'm thinking about buying an 840i G.C.
I bought a certified pre owned bmw 440. A 62 yr old lady turned it in after a lease. It had 25k miles on it. 36 months prior this car was $73,000 out the door. I purchase the car for $36,000. It has every single option except fog lights! Fully loaded. Now 4.5 yrs later I can still sell it for about what I bought it for. The car is absolutely awesome. Not one issue and it’s been tuned and modified extensively! I love it

What have you done to it?
@@user-wu3yx7yk9usome people do leases because it aligns with their wants and needs and most of the time cheaper over that short period of time , the old lady might already have a personal car paid off and want to enjoy newer nicer cars for some time and not have to worry about maintenance and all that , looking at the fact that it only had 25k miles on it that’s usually those type of people leasing out nice cars and having fun

I leased a 2024 M440i convertible and it’s a great car, no issues, would never buy one used though since most are leased and beaten up by people who didn’t care about treating it with care. The engine noise to me is perfect. Not over the top nor too quiet, a nice linear sound. I would say it’s not as comfortable as it should be for a luxury car, and the sound system is lacking, but people tend to buy these for the engine and tech.
Sound system is exactly what I need besides power. It’s sad they don’t ever make them with both
People who lease new cars don't care about their car?
It’s not designed to breakdown before 50Km
If you dont get the harman kardon sound system yes, its lacking. Sure its an extra. But (in my car it was 580€) its relatively cheap and a good bang for buck in terms of extras you can fit to it.

We’ve been hearing this 50k mile myth for years. I’ve yet to actually see it in person.
My current BMW is an electric SUV made in Germany. It was purchased new and fully loaded including winter tires. I paid cash for it because debt sucks and I hate every form of it. The car rides extremely nice, it has no squeaks or rattles even after 1 1/2 years. The range is also great with it getting 480 km - 500+Km on 80% charge and about 350k in the Canadian winter. The car has more power than I need, 500+ Horsepower that I never get to use because of rules, regulations, and ethical reasons. The body underneath has carbon fibre, I can see this when I open the doors and it does look amazing. So far so good, the only thing I took it to the dealer so far was a recall for the airbag and I had the whole car wrapped in PPF at the start. BMWs made in Germany are of top quality in my experience so far.
Suv bmw is the worst choice ever dude 😂😂😂

I'm really not a big BMW fan -- but I was in the previous century. I bought a 1969 2002 that bought from a fellow soldier when I was finally discharged from the US Army in 1972. Anyway I kept tinkering with it and eventually I figured out how to fit it with an imported Schnitzer 16v head back in around 1974 I think. I'll guess that it made it made about 150 hp and could easily keep up with the Porsche 911 and blow off 914s and the Alpha Romeo TVAs of the day! Those were days before there even was a BMWNA and the cars came to US streets via Hoffman Motors in NYC! I was glad to hear you are still alive Scotty!!!
Is Schnitzer still around?
Man, that goes back a while.
@@apscoradiales Oh god no -- I sold that back about 1981-2 or so. I think that head was originally imported by Nick Craw Racing in North Carolina? He had several o them as I recall. I don't recall what racing series he used it in -- if he used it?
The newer cars with the inline 6 twin scroll single turbo B58 and S58 twin turbo 6's are really well put together. The previous engine pre 2016 N55 and S55 were also decent but, they had a major flaw in the design. The issue was addressed in the B58's/S58's. BMW and Toyota co developed the B58 and you can find the gen 2 B58tu engine in the newer Toyota Supra's. I have a 17' 440i F36 Gran Coupe and it's the 4 door/hatchback version of the car in this video. Really practical family car that still has some cojones in a canyon.

E39 is very different from today's. E39 is like one of the best cars ever made lol.
@@morimoko I wouldn't say it's one of the best cars ever. If you skimp on the routine maintenance and ignore the vanos items, you'll regret it later on. That's why so many BMW's are turds now, and why they have the money pit reputation.
@@jp1087 It's why they're called 'BMTroubleYou'.
perfectly said my friend 👍
My 2007 e92 with naturally aspirated inline six has over 153K miles and I have maintained it well since it was new. It is remarkably well balanced and even after owning it for 17+ years, it is a joy to drive. It still looks great and the AC still blows cold despite our Florida weather. This was and is a great car.
Wont the turnp wear out the engine pistons faster?
5:17 yeah that 40 year old Mercedes Benz S class coupe tech sure is cool. Nightmare when it breaks though, ask me how I know. (:
No ceramic coating is bullet proof. It will still show signs of marring through a tunnel wash. It will also get contaminated from the environment. Scotty stick to mechanical advice.
Exactly
Possibly. On the other hand my 3rd hand car 2006 was ceramic coated in 2006 and still looks brand new & perfect. Also took a eye from the motorway (the ones flush with the road) that flipped up from the front wheel and dinged the rear wheel arch and didn't even mark it, but dented the metal. That was in 2021. Brand was Supagard, so can't say I'm dissapointed.
You must not like your car if you take through a tunnel wash
Don't take a nice vehicle through one of those atrocious contraptions. Above all, don't be lazy!
New BMWs: Lease only!
Exactly!!!! 💯
Why?
@jacobstrouble6631 all the internals in the engine bay are plastic very expensive to replace in the long-term once the warranty expires, it's been all over social media platforms it's cutting cost and maintaining the bottom line by all means necessary that said said lease it, enjoy it 😎, return it, 🫡😎 not worth keeping long term will be a endless money pit long term. If you can afford upkeep of a BMW keep it your decision. 🤔
@@sleepyg2011 Are Toyotas not plastic as well?
@@jacobstrouble6631 toyota dealer charging nearly the same as BMW for internal parts, you might save 1k extra, that's it. Reality is, every dealer these days charge a lot. I'd rather have BMW, thanks lmao
I daily drive a car with a B58 running an e30 tune. Basically it’s about 60% 91oct and 40% E85. Runs like a dream and gives me around 420hp
You are some character 😂. Cheers from România!
The number 1 reason why BMW's fail is lack of maintenance.
Because they always require maintenance
All plastic
Same thing with any machine.
When people buy cars such as BMW, most don't consider the cost of maintenance. Then they're sticker shock at how much it costs.
The Ultimate Maintenance Machine.
Ive had 13 cars in my life. 3 were BMWs. Theyre the only ones of the 13 that left me walking. But when theyre running right....theyre amazing cars to drive.
I have a 2018 M240i convertible I picked up a year ago for 35k with 17k miles on it and I love it. I don't care. Car was driven by some girl down in miami 3k miles a year and there was a 3k receipt in the glove box from right around when it was traded in for an oil change, spark plugs and a coolant sensor. I've thrown a bigger HPFP and a bigger turbo on it and it's fast enough for me for now anyway.
Scotty please review the Hyundai genesis coupe 3.8 2009 to 2016 any
I've owned several bmws. I've owned nearly every foreign car brand. I currently own a 4 series and a tundra. Bmw is by far been most reliable. Never been stranded. Toyotas left me stranded. Celica and previous tundra. Keeping my fingers crossed on this tundra. Toyotas are pure garbage nowadays. Most aren't even lasting 30k before the motors are crapping out. Although the new bmws are a lot more reliable than Toyota nowadays.
I've never been stranded by my BMW, Toyota, or Chevys. Only car that left me stranded was an old VW Passat TDI because the tab broke on the clutch pedal and it wouldn't depress .. it had close to 250k miles on it when that happened. Fixed the tab and kept driving it a few more years with no issues before I sold it and bought a BMW diesel. I think with any brand, maintenance is key. 5K on oil changes, 50k on transmission fluid flushes, brake fluid flush every 2 years.
With that being said, I'm skeptical of the 3.4 twin turbo toyota engine hearing all the rod bearing failures. Not sure 5k oil changes would prevent that.
I've never been stranded by any of my cars. I've owned a Nissan Maxima 5-speed, a 2001 Z28 I put 130k miles on for a 150k total before I sold it, a Jeep SRT that I put 30k miles on for a total of 55k, an E63 AMG S that I've had for 2 years without any issues. I think a lot of people who end up stranded fail to accept they didn't do their job maintaining their vehicles and are surprised pikachu face when it catastrophically fails after tens of thousands of miles without maintenance. The same way they lie about abusing their bodies to the doctor when they end up with some kind of organ failure or cancer.
I highly doubt that
R I P Scotty
There's a 350-500-750 Kawasaki triple two cycle . Nothing could beat those first 3 gears after that the Z1 turbo blew bye bye .. I will never forget my first Z-1 turbo . But the triple always has to take the back of the pack as they smoke some ...gotta mix oil and it's a pain ok ?
Our family has owned 5 series for years all straight line 6s. E60s, f10s and now my new g30 with b58 engine. Transmission and engine they never die.
Only problem are oil and coolant leaks since everything is made of plastic. My brother and I just learned to fix everything ourselves. Bammm problem solved. I guarantee you we spend less money on maintenance than someone driving a Camry that takes it to a dealership for service.
You can drive in style and still not have it be a nightmare!
Funny, how at 135 MPH, the highway becomes a little scary and the nose of the car lifts, and the steering gets irrational. Just saying, 135 MPH, on any car, needs some down force aerodynamics to safely roll along.
I’ve driven my GTO at 152 and it was extremely smooth, stock aero
Maybe it gets like that in the crap box you drive, an M440xi is glued to the road just fine at those speeds and higher. Most performance cars are...
@@ArshAZ83 suspension is more important than aero and can help a car alot. but aero definitely makes a difference. driving those x5m and cybertrucks at 140 even though they have weight the lack of downforce makes it easier to steer off
BMW is a beautiful car but within 1 yr the depreciation is outrageous and durability is questionable at best , I'd rather spend less for a better car like Lexus or Toyota
Depends on what you consider better. If you think reliability is better, sure go with the Toyota. If you want performance, nothing Toyota or Lexus makes can come close to an M440xi, and no, the Supra is not a Toyota, it's a BMW... using the exact same engine btw.
Not only is Lexus unbelievably horrible for a luxury car but I've had more come in for major issues than BMW's and THERES LESS LEXUS'S HERE
“Durability questionable at best” my mom got into a crash with a semi and came out without a scratch in her 2006 X5. My family has had 3 of others over the years which all have lasted for many miles
Scotty's humor gets me every time
135K miles on my N63TU only issue I have so far is a blown speaker and I gotta replace my oil cooler other than that I do regular maintenance 🤷🏾♂️
Like the looks of the BMW but the parts are just to expensive to replace
Hows the orchestra today Scotty!?
You are most welcome to Lithuania!
I have two bmws . My M240i xdrive convertible is 6 years old and has had zero problems and gets 33mpg .
so funny to read all the beamer haters. If I put any of you behind the wheel of my M240i for 10 minutes you would understand what driving is all about. expensive car? yes. costly to maintain? sure. but life is way too short not to feel some exhilaration every day. worth every penny..
Most of the people hating on BMWs are not car people, just goofballs that thinks anyone cares their car has 300k miles on it. Even Scotty can be honest about the fun and nice quality of a BMW whilst accepting the reality that electronic gimmicks do fail. Most BMW owners are switching it up to different cars in the lineup so they don't care about long term reliability.
Exactly my M2 is a blast. And the stick shift makes it more fun.

Change oil and new battery... $1,500. Don't tell me BMW isn't junk:)
Do it yourself, I pay about $50 in supplies to change the oil in my BMW. New battery was $150 from Sams club. I had to buy a cheap ODBII bluetooth dongle to "register" the new battery to the car using an app. I did my brakes last year and it cost me $450 in supplies (non-OEM rotors and pads). Its not bad if you are somewhat mechanical.
