Clearly, every question was carefully scripted and pre-approved by DHS to reveal what they could. Notice that there was very little info about the car itself, it was all about operations. I would have liked to know more about the drivetrain, the chassis it's based on, the weight etc.

Yeah it was more of an interview with secret service, nothing at all about the car besides the outside.
I clicked on the video with the expectation of knowing there was absolutely zero chance any door, hood, or trunk would be opened.
They did let Jay see inside, but it couldn't be filmed or discussed.

I retired from a jurisdiction right outside DC so I had the opportunity to work w/the Secret Service many times. They are top notch folks, very professional & very serious about their responsibilities. One agent made arrangements for me to have my picture taken, in full uniform, w/President Reagan.

Just about everybody with internet access knows almost all of the intricate details about the car. Like the hidden gun compartments, the steel plated under carriage for explosive protection, the oxygen tank for fresh air, the bag of blood for an emergency blood transfusion,etc. Why are they being so secretive?

It's sad seeing it.. but he's had quite possibly the best life anyone has ever lived. His legacy will last for centuries I'm sure. A funny guy and a car guy he hits all the marks.. I don't wanna see Leno leave this world but, I see that he's leaving us sadly. It's time to let go of our boomers and usher in a new.. legacy. We need a jfk in the next 4 years, it's time for us to let go of our parents reign over us.

Agreed. I was amazed at how much he’s aged. I’m glad I had the good fortune to be around during the height of his career. I would say he was one of the last truly funny, gracious, classy late night comedians. I would not call the late night shows of today “comedy” under any circumstance….it really is just hateful vitriol. At any rate, Jay did a phenomenal job during his tenure, and I’m thankful I was around to enjoy it.
I didn’t realize how massive it is. It’s not a car. that’s a tank made to look like a car. The fact that he was able to even get it on the show is remarkable.
An APC is a more correct word.
It’s built on a medium duty truck chassis if I remember correctly. This beast really is massive, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s thousands of pounds heavier than the previous generation.

Imagine 7 days ago, if I told you that Jay Leno was going to release a video about the Presidential Limo. Then five days after that, somebody would try to take a literal shot at the former President and current frontrunner for the 2024 presidency.

I drove Jay Leno in a limo in 1982. We even had pizza 🍕 together. After my attempt at stand up, He said not to give up my day job.

Duluth, Minnesota, here. Nothing exciting ever really happens around here, but the other day, I was on lunch break from work, and I went to my local gas station. Who was right behind me? It was both beasts and the whole motorcade... I guess the president was going to have a rally in Wisconsin the next day, and they had just unloaded the fleet off the planes at the international airport and brought them to the closest gas station to top off the gas. It was very impressive, up close they are massive. It was the fist time I had seen them in person in 39 years of living here.
I've had the privilege of being in Jay's garage when I worked for an auto transport company. He's as warm and funny in person as he is on camera. After he reviewed and drove the car I was transporting, he invited me to join him and his crew for lunch. His "garage" has a complete gourmet kitchen and outdoor grill. As you can see in the videos he does, in addition to all the cars in his collection, he has an amazing amount of automotive memorabilia, including posters and even gas pumps. I'll remember that day for as long as I live.

They did say that they destroy them but he also said that for practice they used one Gen 2, maybe they destroy the 2nd unit but the original stays in a highly secured base or something.

You don't realize how massive the vehicle is until Jay is standing beside it. It is basically the opposite of the US market today - they took a gigantic SUV and turned it into a sedan/limo.
It's built on a GMC Topkick truck chassis. Those are the trucks you see pulling Coca-Cola trailers.

I'm from Europe and I like the fact that while the gentlemen are talking about about the Beast, the limousine of the US President, all the cars behind them are from Europe, the four Citroens. 😊😊😊

Regardless of the lack of info on the car and its abilities (for obvious reasons) it was still awesome to get so up close with this iconic vehicle that is one of the most visible symbols of the presidency.
1992, Bush/Quayle era, I was an insurance appraiser in northern Virginia. One of our approved body shops did all the Secret Service vehicle body work. Walked into the body shop one day, big black limo with Agents carrying MAC 10's in front. Body shop manager said, "That's President Bush's car. Secret Service Agents are here 24/7." Came back a few weeks later, again a black limo but with no guards at all. Asked the manger about it. "Oh, that's VP Quayle's car." Hysterical!

@@JayWye52 he probably has no idea what an MP-5 looks like so he said MAC-10's but given the mistake in his brain it's likely those were MP-7's since they're a very widespread standard issue for special security needs. Or the classic Uzi which has been a long standing weapon for the secret service.

FYI... The 'kid' who ran into President Ford's limo in Hartford, CT had the green light. It was the presidential motorcade that ran the red light. Apparently there was a miscommunication over which officer was supposed to be covering that particular intersection.

That's why, in my country, every vehicle in a motorcade has the right to run a red light so long as the first vehicle had a green light. Other cars have to give way to the motorcade.

A friend of mine was a ford mechanic for 20 years, that made him a ford expert. The secret service job paid 120k and you travel with the car full tools and everything you need. If the car dies, you’re fired, if you can’t fix it, you’re fired. The budget and resources were wide open. I know a Lamborghini Ferrari and Aston Martin dealer offered him more to work there, he went for it.

Not immediately. They said later on that they are used for training new drivers, so perhaps they are not all destroyed. But guessing there is a lot of useful information from one vehicle to the next that needs to be protected..
@dougle03 some are loaned to presidential libraries but they're always locked and only to be handled by Secret Service personnel except for dusting, which I imagine library employees can keep clean.
