    what irks me more than anything is the fact that NVidia and AMD thinks 1000 dollars is a reasonable price for most consumers for a gpu

    • @darklynch10
      @darklynch10 Před 3 měsíci +25

      To be fair, those cards are meant for high end builds, not for the average consumers. Although they're expensive, I don't think people understand how much R&D goes into keeping up with modern gaming, which is constantly changing and improving.
      The entire 4000 series is overpriced though. The sweetspot for the average consumer should be between 200 to 600, but for a high end card to be around 800 to 1000 makes sense considering their performance.

    • @billywebb4365
      @billywebb4365 Před 3 měsíci +10

      I think if game developers would do more optimization on the games we wouldn't have to upgrade to high dollar cards. I mean look at console games. Developers have to optimize those games to run on those low end consoles which are cheap pc.

    • @darklynch10
      @darklynch10 Před 3 měsíci +4

      @billywebb4365 if I recall correctly, it has something to do with the "CPU" and "GPU" of consoles are able to share resources unlike a pc cpu and gpu who do things independently. Apparently windows is trying to erase that division on PC but it's difficult

    • @darrylneiltanyag2487
      @darrylneiltanyag2487 Před 3 měsíci +9

      based on Steam data. The average consumers play at 1080p resolution. 1080p cards are $200, not $1000.

    • @LucidStrike
      @LucidStrike Před 3 měsíci +9

      Top-tier cards like the XTX and 4080 aren't really targeted for most consumers anyway, but I get you. Was nice when the top end was around $600.

      Not to be rude. Yeah, you could go used, but don't think its going to get cheaper new moving forward next gen bro. People skipping this gen for what you're saying without considering the fact that GPUs will still go up as time goes on. Maybe not significantly, but the data is there.

    Got a 4070ti over a year ago and have been enjoying it ever since coming from a 2070. I don't buy mid gen refreshes so I can enjoy the new gen sooner rather than later. Buying mid gen refreshes just seems weird to me. Why wait for barley any performance increase? The 12g of vram you will all tell me how bad it is doesn't really apply to me and the games I play (mostly racing and flying sims in VR). By the time I need more vram I'll be buying the next gen cards anyway. I tend to upgrade whenever a new gen comes out (skipped the 30 series because of crypto driving the prices up) and sell or pass my card on to a family member while it's still worth something.

    I got the XFX 7900XT a week or so ago from Newegg, for about $710, and it has been amazing at 1440p. Blows my old 3070Ti away in everything I play. Those GPUs cost the same despite being a generation apart and one clearly outperforming the other. It’s incredible. The Nvidia tax and crypto-mining craze of the COVID era drove prices through the roof.
    Last time I owned AMD, an RX480 8GB was in my rig. Needless to say, they’ve come amazingly far since then. No worries or regrets with coming home to Team Red.

    • @ObakuZenCenter
      @ObakuZenCenter Před 3 měsíci

      Star Citizen seems to run better with more and faster RAM and is CPU limited at the moment. You'd likely get similar performance with either a 7800 XT or a 4070 Super, since the game isn't making full use of any recent generation GPU. It's not a good idea to buy any PC part for just one game, though perhaps Star Citizen is a decent enough base mark for what can run comfortably.
      Overall however, the 7800 XT consistently either equals or out performs the 4070 Super in many games and has more VRAM. It also though does use quite a bit more power, some of the AMD drivers are really beta versions right now and if you like ray tracing, the 4070 Super does better. In the US the 4070 Super costs about $120 more than the 7800 XT, for effectively less performance but a couple of features that are not necessarily of much use to many.

    This is why 12GB for 4k is the standard until a few years into the PS6 era. Sure, there may be a game or two that will exceed it. That means they either will have to release a game with worse textures on consoles or wait till the next gen of consoles.

The price diff. between this and a 4090 at roughly 7-800 more for only doing 20-30 fps on average per game is terrible too, so glad i didnt buy one of those. The nitro+ is a monster but is also power hungry which need to drop the power consumption to decent level 280-300w at most and not sure if is possible. The 4080 super is less power but could drop a bit there too. RT for me is good but dont justify the jump on it when I need yo enable dlss shit and nerf resolution from 4k to a FAKE 4K which is literally 1440p in disguise. Most of my games saved cyberpunk dont have RT and I like modding , which destroy the point of "no need more than x gb of vram", thats bullshit specially in modding graphic of games. My dream was aorus master 4080 super because love that gpu design but the price is unreasonable, out any logic, even because cant even find a shop having it and who have it is adking 1500 euro like. How can you say with a straight face that VRAM is not a problem ?. No, that's not true, it's not just an optmimization problem, better textures means more VRAM used, more resolution means more VRAM, more processes (FG, ...) means more VRAM.
    We already have games that currently need 12GB of VRAM, right now, at 1440p. I'm not burning almost €700 (the cost of the RTX 4070 Super in Europe) for a GPU that a couple of years from now will force you to reduce textures, disable effects, ... to fit in its 12GB buffer.
    The first GPU that I would even consider buying (RTX 4070Ti Super) costs almost €1000. Sorry nVidia, but no, you went too far in skimping on VRAM and bus width. I will wait another 6 months and see what the next generation will have to offer.

      Because it's true. What developer in their right mind when developing a game would develop for harware that only 2% of the overall PC population has? Look at the Steam Hardware stats and tell me how any business development team would okay that. Where you see huge amount of vram issues is at Ultra Resolutions which is the least optimized part of a game. Now go play Hogwarts on a 4070, 4060ti, 3060 or lower at 1440p or 1080p and see if there is still an issue. Also how much of the shared RAM stack do you think game developers get to use on a Playstation 5 and Xbox for textures? Which is where 98% of games are developed first. It's an optimization issue that is fixed over time, and the only thing that EXCESSIVE VRAM gets you in games is the ability to run the super unoptimized version of the game on day one.

    The 7800 XT is even better value now with price cuts to $480 in the US. The 4070 Super is, a result, closer to the 7900 XT in price and should also be compared to that card. As the 7800 XT equals or outperforms the 4070 Super in many contexts, the 7900 XT does even better and thrashes the 4070 Super in many situations, except for fairly useless ray tracing and DLSS. Those are 'features' that many just turn off, which are still immature and lack any real reason, or motivating factors to use consistently. Anyone buying purely on the basis of RT and DLSS, isn't making a good decision in some ways perhaps, though it is of course their decision to make. Also, you have a mic literally attached to your top. Why the yelling?

    Long story short, the 4070 super the best value offerings from Nvidia. All this Nvidia talk is just a waste of time. The numbers tell all you need to know.

    Why does the benchmark games show This High of Numbers in games. 7900 XT, 4070 Ti are not intended for a 1080p experience, unfortunately bad review for me. No one has a 500Hz monitor .

    FSR is Trash No Frame Gen DLSS 3 is too good and their ray tracing is shitty. I don’t care how cheap amd is I just don’t like them cards. Haven’t had a Radeon card since the x700 pro I can get 200fps in cp2077 @1440 max settings with RT off and frame gen, RT is about 130fps pathtracing etc etc on.

    That was the worst buying guide I've ever seen No mention of VRAM importance, no mention of value and a whole demeanor like he was on team green and AMD was just "the other guys". I'll stick to quality tech experts like Hardware Unboxed, Gamers Nexus and Scattervolt.

    The AIB choices for amd are trash unfortunately. Pay a premium for the saphire nitro plus or have an ugly gpu with okay cooling unless you like the 2 color choices of the hellhound

    AMD video cards used to be a good budget card. But now they're just overpriced junk.

    Ofcourse this guy also skipped the blender test.
    The main reason anyone even buys an Nvidia gpu

      Except that it isn't. You just made that up. If you're trying in some sort of not very clear, or knowledgeable way, to talk about the performance of some Nvidia and AMD cards for real world work such as video rendering and editing, then the 7800 XT does better in Blender than the 4070 Super by the way, with almost any codec and format, when it comes to rendering. The thing is that Blender isn't particularly useful in itself. It's a very loose indicator when used for benchmarking and isn't always particularly accurate. Blender tests done by techtubers, are often just done as a custom, not as something that's all that useful. Like HWU's terrible and irrelevant 720p tests, that they were still running until fairly recently. All Blender tests show is how a card performs in a Blender test, not much else.
      As an actual video/3d creation tool, Blender is somewhat outdated and not very well featured now. It doesn't come close to the performance and features of the free version of Davinci Resolve for example. Real world testing of AMD 7800 XT's and up, with Davinci Resolve, which is more relevant and useful, show that the AMD cards at the 7800 XT level upwards have phenomenal performance and yes, they do often beat their immediate competitors from Nvidia in things like encoding/recoding, as mentioned. Go to any Microcenter on a Saturday morning and ask anyone buying an Nvidia card why they're doing that. I can guarantee that most won't even mention Blender. Most really don't care, or even necessarily know about Blender, except maybe as a benchmarking tool.
