its amazing how minimalism means more functions, less functions, as well as no functions, all at the same time
And can also be luxurry and superfluous
The air-purifying table being featured in this video irritated me so much. Like, by the standards of an air-purifier (a fairly non-minimalist thing to begin with), it's pretty much normal. And by the standards of a table, it is everything but minimalist. So weird.
I think the idea of minimalism is not buying things, so this video feels a little ironic.
Moreover, many of the products had some added gimmick to them, which in my opinion is not the point of minimalism. You would want all your consumer products to be stripped to their bare basic functionality. He was buying things marketed as "techy" more than minimalist.

East asian product design is typically minimalistic or multipurpose to help conserve space since the home sizes are relatively small. It is crazy though that a lot of the imported products are twice the price we can get them locally.
As a coffee nerd, I did want to point out to anyone who is like Arun, that you can buy ground coffee (including those fancy places, they often will do it at the counter if you ask). So yes, you can buy a whole other setup for grinding your own coffee, but you can also just buy the coffee already ground for you, so you just have that machine.
P.s. drink your coffee however YOU like it, not how others think you should have it.
Do you clean the coffee maker stuff daily? Surely it must be an annoying task.
Also, i want to mention that the kettle he showed is pretty overprized for a premium gooseneck kettle. Take the Fellow Stag EKG for example, which looks better imo, has precise temperature control and a timer and costs around $165. There is even the Fellow Stag EKG Pro for $195, which adds a color lcd display and a couple of smart features, as well as the Studio Edition with a glass base for $225. So all of those are significantly cheaper and have more functionality. (i'm not trying to advertise Fellow specifically, they just have the best looking kettle imo)
He bought a gooseneck kettle. All he needed was a 15 bucks v60 and a scale to make good coffee.
@zan1971 I personally use an Aeropress, which is much more manual and does 1 coffee. But it's essentially just a plastic tube you press down on. It's not a machine.
And then I chuck it in the dishwasher.

Just a bit of machining correction, zero tolerance parts arenât actually just cut into two pieces, but start out as two blocks that are then cut very precisely down to look the same.
That's exactly what i was going to say
If I recall correctly, the toy parts should, if they're "doing it right", be interchangable with any other same toy. Swap middles between outers. Also axially symmetric, so pull out the center, rotate any direction to align the spines and insert. Even reversible, so pull center, flip, insert.
i was wondering that. Im not familiar with the process but I cant imagine any form of machining/cutting where you don't lose any material. Maybe someday we'll have the capability that we can make cuts a couple molecules thick but we're nowhere near that now

My favorite? The record player. I am not even a record guy but when a product is just so well done, you can't help but respect and revere it.
I'd want a Vestax sideways turntable meant to be played strapped over your shoulder, like an 80s KB solo makin' Lead singers & guitarists look even cooler, hehe. They claimed most of their decks would play sideways but sadly I never found out. That pamphlet introduced the worlds only DIY Vinyl Lathe to cut test-press/one-offs from special "12in blank records" (~$20). Iirc it had big Temp indicator and Pressure dial for you to keep temp in green for best cut. Opposite that was a normal tonearm+stylus to check if your 'freshest cut' came out. Cost like $3-6k did not do well as high cost limited it's penetration & Vestax gear had NEW features but plastic build quality did not compare to $800 military grade technics 1200s. Also soon after this $1k Final Scratch was announced and scratch demos sounded good. Allowed mixing, scratching ANY TRACK (mp3s or even video!) Make every DJ setup into a controller via $30 Timecode Vinyls on your current mixer, etc! Burn free Timecode Albums to add a CD Decks to your controller. Thx man made me all nostalgic bro :D

Yes, there's no way you really like coffee if you drink instant coffee everyday. đ
The cheapest, most manual and most tasty in my experience is doing hand grinding + pour over directly into your cup.
Using instant coffee as your comparison for a 700 dollar coffee maker is wild.

This was an incredibly fun video to watch. Definitely some gadgets I'd consider getting if I just have extra money (the fan, the tea pot, the coffee maker and the cooker) and a whole bunch of items I'll gladly never own. The pan and the toy both seem like the companies are laughing at anyone who buys it.
gooseneck kettles are a scam unless you're specifically making pourover coffee. You'll scream with impatience while you wait for your teacup to fill up. the pour rate is so annoyingly slow, the capacity is stunted, and the boil time is always slow. No point.
Also fun fact, all kettles in the US boil half as quickly as they do in the UK
Why is it slower? By law or by the wattage of outlets? I've heard the outlet thing multiple times as an explaination but then why can my pc run just as well with half the wattage of an european pc?
â@@Draconic404American outlets run at half the voltage vs many other countries and they dont have higher ampage, resulting in lower actual power for, in this case, heating.
bs. americans dont use kettles, 80% dont even have one. half of these dont even know what it is. they use the microwave XD

Just a bit of context for you.
Your PC runs at the same wattage as mine, were both not using everything the outlet can provide. My outlet just has more to spare, which e.g. a kettle can fully utilize.

The "zero tolerance" gadgets are 2 separately machined parts. You can get insane precision with EDM, but the "cut" width isn't super small. It is incredibly consistent though, that's how you can get such nice tolerances (by including that in your model). The grain is essential to the illusion. You put the two separately machined parts together, then machine their surfaces as one.

As described by Steve Mould in his video "How these impossibly thin cuts are made", zero tolerance parts are made by using two separate parts. First, you cut the hole, then you cut the part that goes into the hole,. It happens submerged in liquid as well.

â@@Ballistarius-nx4dwThe inside gear was not cut out of the outside cylinder. The inside material was removed from the cylinder and thrown away while another cylinder or smaller piece was cut into the shape of the gear with no tolerances. You have two pieces of metal made to mesh together.
