      Hi jason, commenting for the third time, looks like my comments with the link to my spreadsheet were deleted somehow. Anyhow, huge fan of your videos. I planning on buying my very first gaming pc this month. Since I can't link the doc, i will just type it out. I chose the 7900x bundle from microcentre. A 6950 xt, a montech 903 case, deepcool ls720, corsair rme 1000 watts 990 pro 2tb. Budget is 1800 i am a programmer by profession and gamer by hobby. I need high cpu because sometimes I run programs that eat up the cpu. I mostly do AAA gaming, and valorant, cs on the side. ( never played Minecraft in my life and my first experience i want it to be in 4k ray tracing 😂)

      Hi Jason,
      So my budget is around 900$ max. I am trying to build a future proof pc rn. My first thought was to build a pc with ryzen 7600x but b650 mobo prices are very high in my country. Reason for choosing 7600x is because i can upgrade the processor in the future without changing my mobo.But it seems impossible rn.Also,in that 900$ it includes a gigabyte g24f2 165hz 1080p monitor but doesn’t include a gpu because i will sell my old rig and get the rx 6700 xt.
      I can take the 7500f but in my previous two builds both times my gpu died on me so i am kinda scared to take a cpu without integrated graphics.
      Can you help me with a future proof build in this price range?

      @proshantobunny5673 no such thing as future proof. Build a pc for your needs today because who knows what coming down the road. In 3-5 years you will need an upgrade regardless to stay relevant.

      Pal seriously now!? Yeah, his videos are cool, very informative and pragmatic but only for the average Joe user!! Do you even know what level of depth and complexity you learn at the university!? I don't think so because if you would, you would have never made that statement. What we have learned there is not even in the same league or weight class. Of course it's not that easy to understand like a simple CZcams video

      @@tiagonascimento4386 Apologies! Yes, university is extremely important for gaining deep and well-researched understanding. My point being, it is all too easy for me to get lost in that level of detail (especially when it comes to technology), and I feel that many people benefit from his ability to render so much of that often complicated information so accessible and applicable.

    Thanks for mentioning that cpu memory controller could be a limitation to your ram speeds. I think I told this story in another comment section a long time ago but I felt real silly buying ddr4 3600 cl14 only to not be able to run the kit at xmp with my intel 12700 and having to lower clock speed by 200 mts.
    And as if that wasnt enough of a kick in the nuts, when I recently made the switch to 4k from 1440p and upgraded gpu accordingly, for some reason my cpu's ram overclock tolerance went down even further, not allowing me to run this same kit any faster than 3200 cl16.
    Oh but it got better. Had a gpu driver problem recently that warranted troubleshooting off the igpu, guess what, now I could only successfully boot up at 3000 mts if I was using the igpu.
    Hopefully with an upgrade to a K sku 13th or 14th gen chip depending on prices I'll finally be able to run this kit to its full potential.

    • @kramnull8962
      @kramnull8962 Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah, other than XMP settings for my Corsair ram the only thing I can run is factory DDR4 3600 CL18. That's on my MSI Tomahawk z790. I'm using Intel Extreme tuning on Desktop, so with no overclocking in bios, so I don't think that is hindering me from booting at 3800.
      Crazy thing is. "Memory Try It" in bios has stupid 4800mhz CL 15 timings; which most every kit of ram on the market would crash with. Another setting is 4000 CL14.
      Those kits would cost $400 to get any amount of ram, say 32Gb x2...

    Hey, i just found your channel and it's amazing, do you recommend Ryzen 7 7800 3XD paired with the MSI MAG Tomahawk and an AIR cooler? is this enough to keep it cool and the VRMS ? at the moment i'm trying to figure what motherboard to buy and MSI MAG tomahawk seems like a good one, i have trust issues with Asus so idk if i should try that brand. Most of the motherboards are very expansive so i try to keep it close to a max of 250 euro.

    Hi! I've been deep-diving your channel in preparation for my upcoming PC upgrade. Preparing everything for black friday. I have a RAM question; For AMD you recommend DDR5/6000/CAS30. But the ram chips I'm browing through have additional numbers. Such as 40-40-96 or 36-36 or 36-36-76. Any thoughts on those and on the performance impact on that? Thanks!
    Also; Do I need to pay attention to that AMD EXPO flag?

    • @TheAshfyr
      @TheAshfyr Před 3 měsíci

      AMD EXPO is the Overclock method for AMD IIRC. So, basically the same as Intel XMP if you are using AMD. It allows you to run the ram at a higher clock speed as long as the motherboard supports the speed.

    • @TheAshfyr
      @TheAshfyr Před 3 měsíci

      Those other numbers are the clock timings, it affects the stability of the ram, not sure the details beyond that though.

    For RAM, I agree QVL is somewhat moot at this point unless you’re trying to overclock to really high speeds. That being said I tend to look and focus on chip manufacturer instead for maximum compatibility. For DDR5, Hynix is the way to go right now. DDR4 Samsung or Hynix is fine.

    • @dianaalyssa8726

      14th might be better but on 12th I've had to manually set my ram speeds, XMP has failed me on 2 boards (haven't done BIOS updates etc) It's still really fast and snappy even if the speed isn't the full rated, but 14th is supposed to be better with speeds compatibility, as 13th is also. 12th I guess it was new pains. Would still check QVL buy the same or a close kit, I ended up with 48gb kit but I can't run 6400 speed on 12900KF for example. @@onlyadel1388

    I purchased and installed 2 sticks of DDR5 CL32 6400MT/s alongside my 7800x3d, not realizing that there were compatibility issues with Ryzen CPUs and some of the faster RAM. What would you recommend for my use case? Can I anticipate better performance if I go about manually changing the timings and reducing the speed down to 6000MT/s? I should also mention that I am not experiencing any stability issues with the 6400 EXPO profile, though that did require a BIOS update. Prior to updating my BIOS, my system wouldn’t even POST when I activated EXPO.

    Local prices for ram vary WILDLY around here - a stick of DDR5 6000mhz CL30 is nearly twice as expensive as DDR5 6000mhz CL40, for example. You stated around 15:48 that slower kits offer nearly no savings, hence the recommendation.
    But under a scenario where the price difference is so large, would the performance loss of going with a 6000mhz CL40 kit be significant over a 6000mhz CL30 nowadays for a Ryzen 7600X?
    Thanks :)

    Hello Jason
    I've some questions below .
    -> MB AM5 - ASUS PRIME B650M-A WIFI DDR5
    specs is 6400+(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(OC)/ 5400(OC)/ 5200/ 5000/ 4800
    1) Can i put 5600 speed into it and what will be the speed of overclocking and not overclocking ?
    2) Can i put ram without AMD Expo into this MB that only support AMD Expo ?

    • @PCBuilderChannel
      @PCBuilderChannel  Před 7 měsíci +1

      We answer all these questions in the video so I recommend watching it. That board states compatibility for 5600 in an overclocked mode. The base speed will be dependent upon the RAM manufacturer. All Ryzen 7000 motherboards support both XMP and EXPO and there's really no difference between them.

    • @SpoonHurler
      @SpoonHurler Před 7 měsíci +1

      1) if you put 5600 ram into the system and don't enable XMP or EXPO (both are factory tuned overclocks) you will probably get 4800 speed. The ram will come with up to 5 profiles pre-tuned (generally 1-3 and some blank ones though) and you can (but shouldn't) overclock the ram manually.
      2) EXPO or XMP will not be that important unless you are trying to get very fast ram with very tight timings to run in 4x sticks then EXPO might help it be stable if you are on AM5.

    • @PCBuilderChannel
      @PCBuilderChannel  Před 7 měsíci +4

      3600 CL16 2x16GB is becoming more rare as DDR4 increasingly moves to the "budget category" and most kits at 2x16GB are now 3200 CL16 (easier to produce). $90 is on the expensive side, but not terrible.

    The QVL is still very important that you match memory that is compatible with Motherboard and CPU. I recently got burned on this picking up Memory for a B550 DDR4 from Corsair that was XMP profile rated at 3600. I should have apparently looked at Corsair’s website but that kit is just not compatible with B550 boards at that Transfer Rate. While I was able to install OS and games to the system running them was another matter. Starfield kept constantly crashing to the desktop. Running Memtest revealed a ton of errors. After dropping the XMP profile off and running at 2133 was the only time I could get the memory kit to pass. Trying to bump the rate down to 3200 still produced errors. I had to buy a kit that was confirmed compatible with the B550 Chipset. The one I had was only confirmed compatible with the X570 per corsair. After getting the correct kit was I able to run it at 3600MT. So don’t listen to advice that you can ignore QVL and Compatibility lists from these makers else you will get burned like I did.

    Hello PC Builder, mind helping me out with my pc upgrade? I currently have a 3070 pairing an 8 year old i5-6600k (obvious bottleneck) so I have been doing research and gotten advice from friends to get the ryzen 7 7800x3d. I will definitely need to upgrade my motherboard to one with an am5 socket, im guessing my ddr4 ram will be done for aswell. So im asking you if the 7800x3d is a good choice for pairing with my 3070, if so what motherboard should be good for it the b650m tomahawk? (or tell me a different motherboard to get) I also havent come to a decision on which ram I want. Is it worth upgrading the motherboard to a high end Z series (e.g. MSI Z790 Tomahawk Max WiFi) with DDR5 (not really planning on overclocking CPU though) or would it be a waste of money. @PCBuilderChannel  Před 7 měsíci +3

    • @mangatom192
      @mangatom192 Před 7 měsíci

      @@PCBuilderChannel Imo, and especially with that resolution(1080p), he'd probably see some improvements since he's more cpu bound than gpu bound. However it's only on more memory sensitive games though, like maybe spiderman etc. Though I agree that with that gpu, he'd probably barely notice it unless he has osd on at all times to compare. About the mobo though, he could have gotten an asrock b650m hdv and not the asus prime boards since their vrms are just downright terrible(the b650 ones are just downright terrible, imagine how it is on A650). It maybe enough for 7500f but if he upgrades later down the line then it might be an issue.

    9:50 Whoa... that just collided with my worldview. I'm planning out a new gaming computer and had definitely planned on either 64 or 128gb of ram. Definitely going with DDR5. I was leaning toward 4 sticks of 16gb. Are you saying that would be slower than 2 sticks of 32gb? How about 4 sticks of 32gb? Is it cpu dependent? How do you best take advantage of 128gb without slowing things down?

    • @LucyJSweets
      @LucyJSweets Před 4 měsíci

      basically think of RAM GB amount like paper and the ram slots like a table, say you have two 8gb sticks of ram, you put them on your "table" it fills it a little well, but you still allow the table room so if need be you can allocate extra "paper" to put more info/data onto.
      But if like you, are planning to go the full 4 sticks for 128gb, your "table" will be cluttered and will not have extra table space to allow running for your regular pc background processes and/or to allocate more ram to as you have ran out of "table room"
      So you have to always make sure your "table" has some space so that the processes in the background can run effeciently and well without having to sacrifice on turning to lower settings.
      Also side note having more/max ram does not always mean better, like i explained above, for example I have 16gb and while it is the sweet spot games that demand more like Hogwarts legacy eat the ram up so, 32gb if your running video sofware/browsers/just extra games or intensive games in the background, but anything above 32gb is often considered unneccessary as the huge extra ram will have nothing to be allocated to so it'll be useless and slow down your performance
      Hope this helped.

    Accidentally bought CL36 ram for my new 7800x3d build. The same day youtube recommends me this and I was able to cancel the order and buy CL30. Thanks a lot!

    I really need your recommendation!
    This is what I’m buying:
    Intel i5-12400F
    RX 6800XT
    I found a deal on the MSI Z690 for $190 but open to other options!
    What ram kit should I get if I definitely need 32gb of ram?
    Thanks!

    Good content and great advice for a build I am currently doing. DDR4 does not fit in a DDR5 slot as I tried it out today. Also believe this is an older video, but as of now DDR5 isn't too expensive. I got DDR5 2X16GB "6000" for $119 (32GB) which is about $50 less when this video was made. I was tempted to double it as there are 4 slots (total 64GB), but since I am using an i9-12900ks I will use 2 sticks as Jason advises here. I am not new to pc building, started in the early 90s....my last 2 or 3 have been factory builds. Having fun at age 67 with this hobby now that the 4070 super series came out, I had to come back!! My grandson is 12 years old and we are doing it together.
