      +Slyness69 Amen! Same here, and I've been around since the very first day of release. I had fun in TBC and WOTLK and of course Vanilla and yes, even in Cataclysm, but...MoP was kind of a moment of "...so this is what they're capable of? Amazing!" in terms of overall quality and fun. 14 months of SoO was not a problem to me personally thanks to the high quality of all the content released throughout the expansion.
      People hate the expansion due to Pandaren, yet I love them and feel like they're a part of the Warcraft Universe. The story of them and the Moghu and Mantid = some of the best stories I've experienced in the game so far.

  • @NorthshireGaming
    @NorthshireGaming Před 8 lety +6

    Actually, the two Tanaris islands mentioned in the video around the 2:55 mark did actually make it to Live. They were part of the quest chain leading up to the acquisition of the item needed to open the AQ gates. Once the gates had been opened, however, they were pretty much useless.
    Part of the challenge of the quest chain in question at the time was that the islands were placed very far away from the mainland to make it more challenging for players to actually get to them, as you had to be able to swim fast enough to get to them before dying from fatigue damage.
    Edit: Oops, you actually corrected for this in the video, haha!

The map designers first put in an outline, fill it out with a general color of the zone, and smear the name across it so every level designer knows what's what. You see the name written across Farahlon too (including a typo) although they started placing stuff on top of the name. Thal'dranath is literally in the earliest possible design stage, aka "there will be stuff here".

    As a thought, I would have to say that I wanted Faralohn. However, most of Warlords felt rushed. And if Blizzard was also spending time bringing us Tanaan Jungle in a later patch, it would prove difficult for them to actually work on Faralohn I'd imagine.

    • @josejuanandrade4439
      @josejuanandrade4439 Před 8 lety +1

      You know, i think you are right on the "rushed" part. I think what happened with WoD realy, was that Blizzard abandoned the xpac, to work towards Legion. The reazon was simple: One year and a half of Siege of Orgrimmar left most of the people already tired of the Orc theme, so even tho WoD started pretty strong thanks to the models updated, and of course cool new content, people quickly got tired cause most of the time they were fighting orcs still. I know i get realy tired when i gotta run BrF, HFC, or any 5 man with orcs, and instead i don't get so bored with Skyreach for example. So people got fed up with orcs, subs started dropping early, and Blizzard chose to not make more WoD content and instead go for Legion at full strenght. In Legion we see quite a lot of diferent races and zones, like tauren, night elf, vrykul, even murlock and nagas, and of course demons mixed in there so more variety then in WoD, obviously trying to not repeat the issue.

    I have hella screenshots from the time I explored the islands that used to be South of Tanaris, back in TBC. That said, I'm glad that some of you seem to like islands, far be it from me to hate on something you enjoy; personally, though, I'm not fond of them and I don't really remember people actually liking them when they were out. Usually they come out as a later patch to the game to add dailies or mundane stuff, because it's a relatively easy way to do that. I don't remember a soul who had actually liked the Isle of quel'danas back in TBC, it was a grindfest where you had to do ten dailies every day. As for Sunwell Plateau, back in TBC raiding tier 6 was not the same as raiding, say, Hellfire Citadel today; back then only a very small portion of the player base actually participated in Black Temple, Sunwell, or Hyjal, those were like the top 1% of players, it's not like what things are like today.
    So, saying that that island supposedly added a load of content is not really accurate; for most people it added a bunch of tedious dailies, and for a very small part of the most competitive player base it added a high-tier raid. (And now naturally there would come a load of people who would claim that they had supposedly raided Sunwell regularly back in TBC; funny how these people seem to pop out of nowhere suddenly even though you rarely knew someone who did that back during the actual expansion).

  • @marcostadeunovaishortencio1761

    Hayven, for what they said, Thal'Dranath is the first zone we go in Legion, for the starting experience, i think that's why it's not in the world map (maybe it'll be in an instance, for what they said in Blizzcon in the end of the intro experience it'll be destroyed, only some little parts will remain.
    But as you said, considering what they did with Farahlon, i'm not 100% sure that this island will ever make into launch :(.
    For the Dragon Isles i hope that someday they will add it, they can add it in the west of Ghostlands or east of Zul'Aman in a future Expansion, as they are not in the world map today, they can be holding it for the future :).
    Amazing video and explanation as usual :)

    I know this is somewhat pointless to bring up because of Hayven's passing, but I found out what happened to the islands off the coast of Tanaris
    Using wow.tools' map viewer, You can look at the minimaps for the map files going all the way back to some early WoW Alphas, the islands and their structures are there for 0.5.3 and 0.5.5, but then, in 0.6, the islands were actually moved further south from Tanaris, and the structures weren't moved along with the islands whatsoever. Those islands are actually the South Seas isles that you go to for the AQ questlines.

    Ogre Island in Draenor wasn't scrapped: it is Highmaul. That island served as a step towards the Ogre Continent (which can still be seen in Draenor live map to the Southwest), and when that continent was scrapped the island was moved to the west of Nagrand. In the versions where the island is present, Nagrand ends where is now Highmaul and that also explains why Highmaul has so much terrain well worked and unused, outside what's the raid.

    Very good video, and you have good points about islands not making into the game. That said there are more islands in the game than those you counted. More survived so to speak. Most noticably the Azuremyst Isles. Wether you count them as one or two islands, they survived. Then there are the Lost Isles. While you cannot go back to them, and only get to experiene this place as a brand new goblin, technically it is in the game, if in a limited way. I'd also like to mention Teldrassil, while it is a giant tree, it is also surrounded by the sea. The main ways to access Teldrassil is by either flight or boat, doesn't this also make it an island?
    - While you say 7.5 killed and I agree, I would state that there isn't 6.5 survived, but 9.5 survived. Or 9.0 if you only count the Lost Isles as half a point. I agree though. Islands do have a rough life. I hope Tal'dranath makes it.

It was populated by pirates, and there was a strange square fireplace structure with a burnt pole sticking out of it. After Lich King launched, a goblin oil drilling rig was added to the island. The island was removed in Cataclysm.

I don't understand why Blizzard couldn't make Val'Sharah, Aszuna, Stormheim, Highmountain and Suramar as separate islands: this would seem more appropriate for the setting. And the piece of Outland Nargand in the alpha Draenor is Garadar. Perhaps the developers used it to make the Stones of Prophecy where Garadar whould be in the future.

      you are not well informed.Tanaan was supposed to be in the wod since launch(leveling zone from 99-100),not in a content patch.And they said farahlon will be a later content patch.Thats why we are worrying for Thal'Dranath.If you have time rewatch blizzcon 2014(you have whole recording on twitch) farahlon was mentioned few times.I/we can only hope blizz will deliver with legion.So far it looks great/interesting.

      +technom8 I personally think that they just used the "1 year expansions" thing to justify WoD and the SoO drag.
      I've not heard them use it since the Legion announcement or at WoD, although maybe they have and i've just missed it.
      I think WoD was just a failed expac. Legion looks like it'll have more to do purely from the basics of the systems we've seen released in the Alpha. I'm not going to tar Legion with the same brush just because blizzard fucked up with WoD. People are still too salty from WoD and just assume it'll all be shit forever, when thats just as illogical as assuming Legion will be amazing.
      Take it as it comes, Legion is looking pretty good but there's clearly a lot of work to do yet so no sense getting too hyped.

    • @technom8
      @technom8 Před 8 lety +2

      Yes i agree.The salt from wod still exist.I am not hyped or anything about legion but i just want another good xpack like tbc,wotlk...And if anyone can pull it off its blizzard if they sort their shit out.They even have new team for features and system we all saw them on blizzcon 2015. new peoples,fresh ideas is what we need

    • @Loomx5
      @Loomx5 Před 8 lety

      They certainly seem to have a bunch of good new Ideas for Legion, now we just have to see how they're implemented.
      I'd like to see them address why WOD went so wrong at some point though, because so much was scrapped and flat out removed it's mind blowing and i'm really curious as to why.

    1001st like from me. Also there was another island north of Gorgord, west of Farahlon, the islands got removed together.

    never heard about dragon island but damn that building looked cool.
    also at this point, blizz could just make an expansion with all their scrapped stuff thrown together

      They were promised to be in-game. (Promise---Guaranteed) but arent. Though Blizzard said that Thal'Dranath would be in the game in a later patch, like the Isle of Thunder.

      All I hope is that we have an instance within Thal'Dranath, like Tanaan Jungle with Hellfire Citadel.

    • @josejuanandrade4439
      @josejuanandrade4439 Před 8 lety

      This 2 particularly were big features of both Legion and WoD respectively. Anounced at blizzcon and for a time in the alpha they existed. The previous isles like Dragon Isles were realy never addresed by blizzard, while this two were big promoted you can say. Also they would have meant a big portion of content of both xpacs, specialy in WoD that is now clasified as one of the xpacs with the less content overall. If we don't cound Tannan jungle for example, there are 6 zones of conent total, so 1 more (Farah'lon) represents a big % of the total content zones.

    My hope ... if they know what they are doing (and Im not sure they do) is that they change the island into Kul'Tiras since its supposed to be that general area of the Broken Isles and it would continue Jaina's story arc.

    I wonder how they explain the missing island, when originally there is four from history. Dreanor has an excuse of being alternate reality. However, they lack the very excuse here. So it'd be hard for them to just add a retcon. Anyway, I really would like to see Thal'dranath in full glory. Maybe RIP? :(
