How Scarlet Monastery EVOLVED Over 10 Years

  • Scarlet Monastery was revamped with Mists of Pandaria. But the four dungeons we know from Vanilla-Cataclysm were actually already a remake of a different version that can be found in the early game files. Today, we will take a look at how the Monastery has changed from this pre-vanilla version all the way up to the revamp. Enjoy!

    I loved Scarlet Monastery runs back in Vanilla. I have no problem with the newer version, but I loved getting a group together, running (no mounting until level 40) and swimming into Tirisfal Glades, and then skirting Forsaken patrols only to congregate on the road outside the monastery so that we could fight our way through elite Scarlet Crusaders until we reached the dungeon wing we wanted to run. As a mage, I preferred the Library and the Cathedral for the snazzy caster loot (Illusionary Staff and Whitemane's Chapeau).

    • @niklass1641
      @niklass1641 Před 8 lety +2

      +DrPluton I'll never forget how Horde 60's used to sit and wait for Alliance groups to run their butts off to get into the instance before they all got slaughtered. If you were on a PvP server and Alliance, you had to have all your $hit together as a group to rush through and if you got left behind you were Hordechow.

      @DrPluton Před 8 lety +3

      +DrPluton Remember dying from the outside mobs in vanilla? And then trying to run into one of the dungeons to escape them? And all the dungeon entrances would look the same inside the building (except the one with clickable double doors), so you'd wind up running into the wrong one? Or maybe that's just me, haha!

    Great video, im between this one or the scholo for my favorite one. Also i think in vanilla you also needed the scarlet key for the cathedral door. And the saddest part for me from the revamp is that, aside the optional bosses, we lost 1 main boss... I realy miss Vishas... "I'll rip the secrets from your flesh" and "Secrets... naughty secrets!" also he dropped my very first fist weapon and a cool looking dagger. And finaly, i'd like to drive people's attention to the weather effects, shown in the vanilla portion, on the huntsmain cloister, i miss that. One of my favorite moments was to raid Zul'Gurub under a stormy rain, the immersion and ambience of the moment were priceless.

    Loved this vid as well; wanted to comment that back in classic it wasn't common to leave dungeons in the middle like it is today; the equivalent today would be a bit like a tank leaving a scheduled guild raid without warning halfway through, haha. If you had wanted to do SM back in classic you would take time to get a group together and then you would all venture there: this meant that everyone in the group walked there. This is because if I recall SM was a lvl 32-40 place, and you only got your 60% ground mount at level 40 (hardly anyone had the 100% ground mount even after that (and I believe that was at lvl 60 anyway-- and it was very rare)-- and there was no flying at all). So you'd take time to form a group on your own, then every person in the group had to walk to SM (no summoning) - so it was an investment and a mutual adventure, no one would leave in the middle, especially if they had the key XD That said, I still have memories of a time I tanked it and stupidly used fear in the library, and then like a million mobs came to eat us because of that XD I also remember that this was before you had the option of rolling on loot, so if you picked something up then it was permanently yours-- and I had accidentally looted the one item our entire group came to do the dungeon to get for my friend-- I felt so shitty afterward, haha! (I sound like the worst tank ever right now, don't I? But those were more innocent times! XD )

Anyone who has only played the revamp version has no idea how hard it was to get through those three armories of trash only to get fucked repeatedly by Herod's whirlwind. The only downside was that all the mobs were 4-8 levels higher than you at the level you could enter the instance.

    I never got to run this dungeon before the cata/mists era but I can already tell that I like the vanilla version much more. Same with Scholomance. I think the first time I played wow was near the beginning of wrath (I was a total noob and had no idea what I was doing) and I really wanted to get herods shoulder from there but I always made new chars instead of focusing on my main and so I just wasn’t high enough level to do it.
    I do remember having to make the journey to kalimdor as an alliance to do the wailing caverns. I miss that feeling of adventure and having to make friends to quest with. I had great times just questing through low level areas. Blizzard really needs to bring that back not only for the new vanilla, but for current as well.

    I like both versions, the new one and the one before MoP. I prefer the new design though.

    Have to say, I wish this one and Scholomance had only been graphically updated. The original versions were impeccably designed as far as voice acting goes and layout goes. I wouldn't even have minded updating the dungeon storyline. But a complete redesign wasn't necessary, even after wotlk

    Thanks for putting these videos, very interesting to see the pre-launch monastery compared to vanilla and well newer, im kind of mixed, kind of like the newest version but feels lazy to me when re-do old dungeon to make it heroic _cough_ deadmines, scarlet monastery, etc.

    Definetly prefer the original. I have so many memories of playing this game at launch, running SFK on my undead priest with guildies, and eventually hanging out in and around the SM hall with the locked doors, looking for groups. Lots of people actually did that, it wa very easy to find groups, especially cause I would just heal even tho I was shadow specced. I think I grinded from about 35-40 there, and still remembner how excited I was getting level 40, so I could get a mount. I don't actually remember if you needed a key for Herods room. As far as I remember it was unlocked, but maybe I had the key already and just didnt pay attention.

    HEY!! Your missing Cannon Master Wiley! From the Armoury section in Vanilla. In the last hall there were 2 doors. One led to Herod...the other took you to a hallway and Wiley! I believe he dropped a set piece for Paladins.

    I just came across & subscribed to your channel. I really enjoy your WoW videos of dungeon evolution. I am sorry to hear you are in treatment for cancer and wish you the best. I myself am a stage IV survivor since 2008, and I guarantee that WoW dopamine was one of the factors that helped me overcome. Also, you have a very nice accent - where is it from, if I may ask? Again- I hope all goes well for you, Best Wishes.

      Hi and welcome to the channel! So inspiring to hear you have come so far battling such an advanced cancer. Thank you for sharing that, it gives me hope. Its a swedish accent you hear, glad you like it :)

      +Hayven Games Yes it's a very nice accent - makes the videos even more interesting :) And I am not joking about the WoW dopamine either, although it sounds funny. I was advanced (metastasized throughout lymph nodes). Some people reduced their stress by meditating and such. Although I am older than the normal gamer, [being geek-ish], I found that WoW & similar dopamine inducing RPG games that I had always enjoyed playing, helped relax me and zoned me into a world that kept me from focusing on negative stress. Visualization and Dopamine have both been studied & linked to positive effects in fighting cancer-type-diseases. As a survivor who believed in that, I can only say I believe it worked helping in my successful remission. (That, and my sister surprised me with a new puppy while I was being diagnosed, just before my chemo. Therapy Pets work wonders, even if you already have a kids or a loving family, a pet can be magic.) The doctors did not expect me to survive, but here I am, my dog is going to be 10 next spring, and I am still alive playing WoW today, and enjoying your videos. So the best of luck to you, and good success with your treatments! I look forward to more good works from you.
