    May Hayven rest in glorious peace. This video six years later is still amazing and even I learned some new things about Hyjal. Not sure why I didn't watch it but youtube randomly recommended it to me and it brought back a smile knowing that it's still keeping the spirit of Hayven with us. Hope his family is doing great and may his spirit be honored.

    Back in vanilla the entrance to mount hyjal looked really dark and spooky. Also worth mentioning, if you jump in the pool below the tree in the Hyjalfight, you will get a 30 sec silence. This was to stop players to tank Archimonde below the world tree, they would do this to bypass the fall damage after archimonde would knock them up in the air.

    In the private TBC server I played, they had turned the inaccessible Hyjal area into a boss run, placing custom bosses all the way through the area which would drop Dungeon 2 items. A really fun way to prep before heading through the Dark Portal.
    And the lair was populated with hard to kill cows that dropped all kinds of flasks and potions :D to pay homage to the rumored Cow Level. So the peeps on that server got to know their own kind of Hyjal and freely explore the place :)

    • @taavidude
      @taavidude Před 8 lety +8

      Well it would be weird if Archimondes remains would still remain. Night Elves would obviously clean that shit off their tree. Also so what if everything is on fire and bad guys all over the place? Cataclysm was a fire themed expansion so it made perfect sense to me.

    • @JoLiKMC
      @JoLiKMC Před 8 lety +6

      It's a double-edged argument:
      Most players never got to experience Hyjal post-Third War due to Blizzard's... I guess indecisiveness, regarding the zone? Outside of an instanced battle with a load of invisible walls, I mean.
      However, the other edge of that is that most players wouldn't know what they were missing, since they'd never _seen_ Hyjal as it was in-game for three whole versions.
      Personally, though? I just got tired of Blizzard crapping all over their own lore around the time of _Wrath of the Lich King_. Pretty god damn sure Arthas was just an angsty, ill-tempered psychopath who liked killing innocent people ("in the name of the Light") even _before_ Ner'zhul got in his head...
      (Also pretty sure Muradin Bronzebeard is supposed to be *dead*, but never mind.)

    This worked for the Cataclysm zones in 4.0 before they opened up, but Blizzard changed the debuff a little, and you needed to use Mind Control during a duel to dupe the debuff.

    You know, people rag on metzen, but he really was passionate about his story. And he understood it could be corny but it was fun.

    Archimonde's skeleton would of made such a nice touch. Even at the bottom of the pool.

      But it would have not made any sense tbh. Like why would the Night Elves leave some huge creepy ass corpse at their sacred tree?

    You're wrong about one part on the old Hyjal Raid: You had to go there for the quest to get into black temple

    Amazing video as always! I really wish they kept the Archimonde remains too, would have been so awesome. Also kinda wish that they put in some building remains from the Warcraft 3 campaign. I know there are night elf ruins scattered everywhere, but wouldn't it have been cool if where the bases are in the raid, there were remains of those bases? Not just the night elf buildings, but the human and orc ones too? If there are and I just missed them, please let me know lol. Can't wait to see what you do next :D

    That "time pocket" explaination is exactly the opposite of what they did in WoD.
    Which means they had to (what I believe) make something up to avoid continuity errors; since we had two archimonde battles (wc3 and WoD), despite them saying it's the same guy.
    Blizzard, as a long term fan since wc2 I think we speak for all of us when I say; stop making "what if" stories like WoD. We want old villians sure, but also New enemies; new stories, new tales. There's always a new chapter to a story, like garrosh had.
    We still have: old gods, sargaras, the other size of azeroth and many more stories to go and as much as we appreciate WoD seeing our old orc heroes again; we'd rather learn about them, through new stories and places. Stepping back in time causes a lot of paradoxes we don't need; even if its an alternative timeline.

    Thank you for this video, as you probably know America's faced a... very stressful election this year. This video kept me calm and grounded and stopped me from probably having a mental breakdown. But in all seriousness, keep it up man :-) Great vids

    It's a shame he couldn't go over the vast amount of changes that happened to the Darkwisper Gorge sub-zone after cata, which where so severe that they actually moved the entire zone from Wintergrasp to Mt. Hyjal!
    It used to be a 5-man uninstanced dungeon, a rarity in modern WoW, but it was the way shit got done in the vanilla days.
    Of course it's most defining feature was that it was the one and only entrance to Mt. Hyjal, covered by an 'unused instance portal' which was deactivated, and the dreaded invisible wall that made it impossible to access Mt. Hyjal by jumping over the Darkwisper Gorge gate.
    When Cata was released I was very exited to go back to Darkwisper George, but was really disappointed to find that the frozen bridge that connected Mt. Hyjal to WIntergrasp had melted away taking with it the charm of pre-cata Darkwisper Gorge.
    Personally, I will always consider Darkwisper to be a sub-zone of Wintergrasp and not Mt. Hyjal, you can't lie to me, Blizzard!
