  • Today we take a look on some early concepts of Emerald Dream which has been in the game files since before Wow was released (and still remains until this day). It has been 13 years since the files were added, and we are finally getting some concrete Dream content. This is the road between then and now. Enjoy!

      That's the gist behind much of WoW.
      From player housing, to what's going on behind Greymane Wall, to absent major lore figures of the RTS games making their MMO debuts, etc.
      Blizz has a knack for taking years to get to something that is otherwise simple.

    • @Malachite7
      @Malachite7 Před 8 lety +5

      Player housing? All we have are garrisons, no customizable houses. :P Too much content.

    • @MadGnomeStudios
      @MadGnomeStudios Před 7 lety +3

      +Malachite I don't think it's not that it's too much content but they said they were testing it with garrisons and wanted to carry it further and almost every expansion if you explore development builds especially in vanilla they were always toying with the idea. They've basically said its not that it won't work, it's that it won't be a good thing for everyone. See garrisons total failure and making everyone a complete recluse.

    I would like to see a bigger part for the emerald dream than just a raid or dungeon..the place is as big as azeroth just not broken so they could surely send us there to do quests and all..like to go find eranikus and save him from his corruption so he can go help ysera once again..they made a whole book about it so I think they could give us a little more especially for those of us who have been waiting years for something to come of it..

    • @SuzakuX
      @SuzakuX Před 8 lety +1

      The problem with the Emerald Dream is that it's nearly identical to Azeroth, geographically. Which means it would be a "rehash" according to many players, just like Draenor was supposedly a "rehash" of Outland.

    • @khalduras784
      @khalduras784 Před 8 lety

      But the thing is theres nothing to do there unless theres a nightmare going on which only ever happens when xavius does something.

    • @Hutschnur
      @Hutschnur Před 8 lety +8

      The Emerald Dream is a blueprint of Old Kalimdor before the Well of Eternity imploded, before Deathwing burbed his Cataclysm and so on... So it isn't nearly identical to Azeroth with its continents... it is completely different with one big continent.

    • @cmwky92
      @cmwky92 Před 8 lety +3

      Unbroken Azeroth sounds far from a "rehash" of current day Azeroth, especially since Deathwing's ravaging penetration. Emerald Dream is pre-sundering with a dash of Nightmare now. Even if they focused on zones that are already known, by the lore, it shouldn't be identical. Unless there's been some major lore changes within the past 6 years regarding the dream.

    • @silverspear21
      @silverspear21 Před 8 lety +2

      Emerald Dream expansion was supposed to happen after BC but as red sparrow stated blizz didnt think many players would like it since it would look almost identical to our own azeroth, i personally would have liked especially since it would have ties to warcraft 3 and thats the main reason i started playing wow. I mean they did "rehash" hyjal as a raid and zone after wc3 and i liked it both times.

    Not to be the uber nerd, but you guys forgot the quest in Darkshore during Cataclysm, where you have to communicate with a green dragon and enter yet another green filtered phase, so that the dragon can assist Malfurion at the stationary tornado.
    And of course, much talk of the Dream throughout Hyjal, with one mission being about smuggling out Fandral Staghelm through the dream, which is yet again another green filtered phase.
    I believe there was more talk of it in a small questline in Feralas during Cataclysm as well, but no other green phasing.

    You can see how there are four zones in the Emerald Dream and four portals in Azeroth.. I guess each zone is a representation how Ashenvale, Feralas, Hinterlands and Duskwood would look like in the dream.. The missing gaps between the zones were propably supposed to be the rest of the world OR maybe it would be blocked off and Blizzard would come up with a "forest is too thick" as a excuse to not see the rest of the world.

    I'm just really hoping that this Emerald Nightmare dungeon and raid isn't all we ever get to see of the Emerald Dream. I want to see the full extent of the uncorrupted Emerald Dream as it was intended. With development of the dream going off and on since its introduction in Vanilla, it would be such a waste to use it for this and this alone and never revisit it.

    January 2022 - I just went there on a private bfa server, which is the closest available version yet, since shadowlands private servers don't exist yet.. I was freaking amazed at how humongous this place is, and how amazing it would be to be there... there is a new grass texture and it seems like the ground textures for the terrain have been completely scrapped, so in that version the alleyways and riverpaths are completely dark, but still look very proper.
    My thoughts after going through the zone - the map is absolutely humongous and the terrain is very well developed. There are Gorges, Ravines, Lakes Caves and so much more. In map size i'd bet its around Kul'Tiras and Zul'dazar put together in size. Simply amazing, and very sad to watch this monument of Blizzard's greatness rot in oblivion.. Still an amazing sight to see.. Also one thing i saw after switching the different zones in the dream was, that one of the zones had a very bright skybox, and one of them was dark and voidy- not like the void at the void elf starter zone, more like a shadowform's mist. I haven't seen this skybox anywhere, and i played through the whole of bfa.

    Those last words in the quote "It will be exceedingly challenging". Means that it will never be released by todays standards. So the emerald dream/nightmare will end up the exact way as the ashbringer. A weapon that has been a question mark all the way from 2004. Will be given to EVERYONE just like that. Now they also know that ppl have been asking for the emerald dream/nightmare since 2004 aswell. So Blizzard creates a raid in hope of that everyone who bothers to press "join que" can finish the raid and never talk about it again. "Poof" the mystique is gone. Well done once again.

    The Nightmare also had a role in the revamped Feralas questing. Ysondre broke free and helps us kill Taerar who was corrupting the area. She then choose to live a life in self exile. The other 2 dragons of nightmare back in vanilla were killed in the novel Stormrage, as well as Eranikus (which also saw the 3rd defeat and 2nd death of Xavius at the hands of Malfurion). Also according to the dungeon journal and quests surrounding the temple of Atal'hakkar (Sunken temple) Hakkar the Soulflayer has some involvement with the Nightmare, however his involvement hasn't been explored outside of the temple itself. Which is a shame since he and Ysera have a history. (She sunk his temple!)
    Shame that Ysondre gets corrupted again in legion without any info on how it happened. Gotta love fan service.

There are several layers to the ED, with the base layer being a load of empty lands, and the topmost layer being the most corrupted, and the one we're raiding in Legion. Everything else is just a load of the same stuff. The ED is basically a world with nothing living but plants, animals, druids and green dragons. There ain't much else to do or see. It's boring.

    I think they want to make an Emerald Dream area, but its not that simple. What could possibly be there that wouldn't ultimately be... boring? You won't find a city or quest hub. You'd run around in wild nature. Maybe with some outposts but yeah. They've tried making areas like this before... No one likes them.
    I just can't think of any way they'd be able to do it that would be both accurate to the lore and interesting to play in.

    Maybe it will be a zone in the NEXT expansion? Since we're cleansing it now but that would mean the zone would be a purified dream and not the multitude of zones showing the gradual spread of the corruption which is a shame,

    It's funny. What they said about the Emerald Dream at Blizzcon doesn't seem to match up to what I've been reading in Warcraft Chronicle Vol. 1. According to that, the Dream has just sort of always been there, purpose and origin unknown.

    I'm a bit dissappointed with the tinyfied scale of the Emerald Nightmare raid we got.I'm sure we only got it as a raid to shut people up who were asking for an Emerald Dream zone/raid since early Vanilla to this day.And now that the queen of the dream, Ysera is basically dead by our hands, we can kiss that "dream" goodbye.
    Except for Druids to some extent because of the Dreamway and the Dreamgrove.But that's still just a miniscule drop compared to the "blueprint of azeroth" that should most likely be the size of the damn game.

    2:23 looks like hillsbrad foothills. 4:04 looks like the entrance to STV from duskwood. The video of the guy talking, he says that we will go in and face xavius and end the corruptoin of the dream, if i remember correctly, one of the old gods was responsible for the nightmare not xavius, so are we going to fight another old god or do we not actually end the corruption. In cata i thought we already ended the corruption or the corruption was already over when cenarius helps us out during our questing in hyjal? Unless this is an alternate timeline etc.

    • @HayvenGames
      @HayvenGames  Před 8 lety

      It all depends on the subject. Often the actual information can be found through the many great articles online, and finding/matching the in-game footage is the real challenge. Take for instance the scrapped Azjol-Nerub zone, it took a lot of time to make that part.

  • @Sambilu
    @Sambilu Před 8 lety

    I had way higher expectations for the Dream. What we get in legion is a portal room (which is very very cool) and a raid with a few bosses that take place on mostly "platforms". I though we would at least get a whole zone sized area or something like that. The Dream is supposed to be large, a place where you can get lost if you go too deep. I don't feel like being lost there. Way too small and simple. And not enough fog. Green fog, red fog, the two of them twisting, making it feel like the red is taking over the green, corrupting it.

    The Emerald Dream is shaping up to be extremely cool. We don't want to preview any of that content yet as it is *endgame* and we want some surprises for players. [...] The zone is massive and beautiful. And once the content team is done with it, it will be exceedingly challenging.

      As for the Emerald Dream, there are no plans for anything as of yet but it is a consideration for the future. The Emerald Dream opens up a lot of different opportunities and the Burning Crusade is definitely not going to be the last of the expansion packs. There are many different places and storylines that can be pursued. The story is going to keep growing and as it does so, people will get to experience it.

    I wish that we could still get into the Emerald Dream, even if we do get a raid. There's so much in that would explain places in WoW that don't have any explanation. The fae and Whispering Forest in Tirisfal, for example. Myself, along with a large number of the WoW fanbase all still believe that has something to do with the Emerald Dream/ Emerald Nightmare, and I want to know what's in it. *Sigh*

      I totally respect that. I started making the narrated videos back in november, and initially intended to phase out the old style completely. But a lot of people still prefer that, and I personally found the How it Really Looks videos to be better with just music. So I decided to make the Evolution series narrated content and How it Really Looks non-narrated.

      They decided against a full expansion due to it being bland. It would be pretty much only green with a few darker parts due to the corruption. I personally agree with their reasoning and am happy with it being a raid.
