    Coming back to this 7 years later after the announcement that a zone that is basically this zone is going into the game.... is crazy. I wish Hayven was here to do a video on it

    For anyone coming here from hirumaredx's recent video, unfortunately, Hayven passed away from complications due to his cancer on March 18th, 2017. He was an absolute sweet heart, loved the lore, loved to explore, and loved this game so much.

    in retrospect, I feel they could have used the entire A-N questing zone as a place for Death Knights to quest and level instead of going to Outlands. It would have been a good way to bridge the story gap left between the end of their starter zone and the beginning of the Northrend starter zones.

    • @lucaswm2
      @lucaswm2 Před 7 lety +6

      like a 58-60 zone, as Arthas actually fought with the Nerubians, it would make a lot of sense.

      I believe it was a massive blunder on Blizz's part, forcing DKs to start off playinf through an expansion before the current content at the time. They rectified that mistake in Legion by letting Demon Hunters dive right into the expansion.

      +Rob Alle why not, it's implied, that it spreads all over the Northrend. They could make an Old Gods related expansion in there, maybe even make a vast system of caverns all over the Azeroth a'la Underdark

      +30mmBallistic He said it was suppose to be a zone. But at some point in the Blizzard Hype machine before Wrath's release, Blizzard mentioned it was suppose to be a very large zone that takes up space under most of the zones/parallel to those surface zones on the top, somewhere in the middle of Northrend.

      Well this one is one of the biggest reasons that Blizzard can't make the greater ideas happen anymore. Azjol Nerub could be contained the whole Northrend underworld. At least they could make it more than 2-wing instances. They could have spent more time with the spider kingdom rather than wasting time and affords on ToC.

    The Chronicle says that the Azj'Aqir Empire, Azjol-Nerub's precursor, stretched all across the Old Kalimdor, with cavernous tunnels all across the continent. Also, Azj'Aqir was founded by a C'Thraxxi named Kith'ix. Kith'ix's twin entity, Zakajz, was about to wake up at the beginning of Legion so I'd say it's likely Kith'ix might come back soon as well, buried under Zul'aman. What would his return bring? A possible Azj'Aqir expansion - a whole expansion building on the ideas and aesthetics of Azjol-Nerub.

      I doubt an expansion given that there is not a huge amount of story involved, there are two raids, a failed above ground zone, and that it would be all underground. But, an underground zone in legion would be interesting.

    • @ArakkoaChronicles
      @ArakkoaChronicles Před 8 lety +3

      ***** We had a whole expansion of snow (Northrend) and sunken islands (Broken Isles). I don't see why "underground" can't be differentiated into separate zones with disparate styles.
      For example: 1. Rocky, 2. Mushrooms, 3. Old God stuff everywhere, 4. Aqir cities, 5. Nightborne/Nightfallen colony (the new drow from Legion), 6. Sunken caves.

    I'd rather have a leveling zone then the dungeons. To see such a scale of the zone. And to think you could fly through random holes leading to the other zones. And think of the hidden subterranean levels they could have made. They could have put five. In the middle, the missing Tolvir of Northrend. And at the bottom, an old god. Congrats dude for 20 thousand subs. Way to go dude :)

    Nice video! I personally would have loved an underground zone for the Nerubians. It would have been interesting to see what would happen as players delve deeper and potentially closer to Uldaman where Yogg-saron is/was. Maybe the old god would have made an appearance in toying with players - perhaps an insanity debuff the longer you are underground... A lot of potential - Hopefully they'll go back and work on this content one day. Content doesn't always have to be about end-game!

  • @ReZhorw

    If they made this like and entire expansion it would be sick, It would be as big as Northrend as stated in the video so it would probably work. Maybe N'Zoth is lurking there and he's controlling the Nerubians or something. But then again I don't know how an entire expansion with the same aesthetics in the zone would seem new and different to the players.

    I feel like they rushed WOTLK out the door too much instead on focusing on finishing this zone. People were already mad busy trying to kill the super hard bosses in Sunwell Plateau, so that could have bought then 6 more moneths to finish the zone and have that cool underground leveling zone people always dreamed about. It could have had a nerubian faction with quests, dailies and even a cool spider mount. They should have made the zone roughly the size of Dragonblight and have 2 entrances, one at the border of Dragonblight and Boring Tundra and one near ICC to keep it lorefriendly. Could have had one dungeon like An-Kahet and 2 warring factions: the scourge nerubians and the untainted nerubians, that would give quests to the players to help them progress in the war against the scourge nerubians.
    Well, instead we got 2 dungeons which were pretty cool but eventually forgotten due to the leveling process...

    I didn't know the instances were the result of a scrapped zone. Very nice video.
    It's hard to say.... On one hand I'm sad I didn't get to see the zone. On other, I hate caves. I bet it would have been a huge pain to navigate judging by the map. Then again, Deepholm is basically a cave and I think it's a neat area. Lore wise, I didn't know what the point of the dungeons were. A zone would have the story of the kingdom better justice.

    Maybe one day we'll get an expansion here. But they would really have to mix up the environments to keep it fresh. Lots of huge open caves like deepholm with lakes, light shining down from above, vegetation and stuff. Blizz's art team is so great I've no doubt they could pull it off

    I would like for more subterranean zones, like Deepholm and ofc, Azjol-Nerub and others.

    I'm almost certain we'll revisit Northrend in some form later on, probably when we have to fight the new Lich King or some other threat. When we do, I'm sure they'll work on this some more.

    My hopes is they will make an expansion with the 3 insect kingdoms working together: Azjol-Nerub, Ahn Quiraj, and survivors of klaxxi'vess.

    There was a part of Icecrown that dropped you into Azjol-Nerub, but it was not for long... like 2-3 quests.

    How do you visit these scrapped areas? Do you have (or could you please make) a tutorial or something to show how you do it?

    Few thoughts:
    There has been discussion amongst the community about future expansions, this of course has been part of that line of thought, it was a shame not having it apart of the expansion as in WC3 FT as it was a major part of the scourge campaign, first look at the old gods as well, there plans of what they included in Wrath were already so extensive dividing their efforts wouldn't do it justice perhaps, of course it still needed to be noted in the expansion. For future expansions, Bolvar sits the Frozen Throne and when revisiting this story it would be great to include this unfinished content.
    Possibly including ideas about the world soul as well and exploring the caverns in such astronomically depths and the true corruption of Yogg Saron towards this sleeping member of the Pantheon. This I believe would be a perfect idea for an expansion, our defeat of Yogg Saron I don't belive "killed" him merely forced him into an extended withdrawl/hibernation as the death of an old god can be just as bad as their living atrocities as seen when Y'Shaarj was killed but devastated the land in the process, also when Arthas "killed" a "forgotten one" back in WC3 FT were there any consequences of this action??
    Looking at the design it reminds you so much of Deepholm as you mentioned, Blizzard likes to mix it up with content so possibly including this subterranean zone would've reduced the mystique of Deepholm traveling from one underground zone to another can loose it's artistic impact

    A secret zone, I prefer this to be the RPG content of wow.
    No grind No requirement type of zone. Just an exploration zone doing puzzle and figuring out clues to find out how to access the area full of traps. While everyone is busy grinding and killing mobs with their brawn's up in northern, the smart people are busy using their brains underground.
    So my Idea of this zone is simply the opposite of everything above ground (Northern). Everything above is quest, grind, kill this kill that, beat the undead, kill the lich king. *So everything below should be like Indiana Jones/Tomb Rider type of game play*. More like crash bandicot type of game play. Reward is also the opposite, while everything above is gear, everything underground is gold,vanity items, and cosmetics.
