    If I may offer a constructive criticism regarding the vlogs themselves, while I DO appreciate you taking the time to make sure things that you and Jack didn't bring up get covered, the pauses really interrupt the flow of the dialogue/banter between the two of you, which for me has always been the best part of watching you two together, and the frequency and amount of them per vlog has been increasing as of late. I would advocate saving them for if something REALLY important needs to be covered that didn't otherwise come up during the initial recording, and otherwise just letting the vlogs come out the way they happen as you guys talk and shoot the shit.

    This whole thing tells me that in the FNAF fandom, the overlap between those who like horror content, and those who are liking extended character lore, do not have much of an overlap and the movie trying to appease both sides kinda falls flat #FiveNightsatMid

    Big fan of you Horror Guru! But I miss the days of these couch sessions where we didn't have this amount of video and audio effects to underline certain statements - I'm speaking from a personal perspective, but I find it a bit distracting with these effect puns, and it takes me out of the nice moment of just experiencing you guys do your thing (which is a beautiful thing in itself, and why I love watching these reviews!). I do love the zooming in on Benny though, great way to edge in an after-recording comment!

    Have to agree that this movie was really lacking. I guess they were still trying to appeal to the kids who grew up with the games...that are older now and probably expect more from a horror film? You just don't show grinding gears and not really use them properly.

    • @TheHorrorGuru
      @TheHorrorGuru  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Because it's a long running game series, I have no doubt there are kids who played the most recent ones. But the people who grew up with the older ones are definitely adults now. It started 10 years ago, after all.

  • @Burori1
    @Burori1 Před 6 měsíci +4

    I'm thinking on how they could have fixed Afton's plot in the movie and I got an idea: So he kills kids and stuffs their corpses in the animatronics as a quick disposal. Ok. Years later, the adults he brings in are all relatives of the kids he killed. He's trying to appease the ghosts of his victims by reuniting them with the families they were taken from as a means of avoiding getting fucking caught by people snooping about why the animatronics are acting "weird". #FiveNightsAtMid

    The games feed you the lore piece by piece. You don't get very much in the first one. It's mostly in the form of clues you have to piece together, though the stories get more straightforward in their presentation eventually as the series goes and things come together. The movie gave a lot of direct exposition off the bat instead of saving it for the sequels and i don't know how to feel about that. You're told that the animatronics are haunted by ghost kids, who the killer is, you see the process by which he dies in a springlock suit and becomes an animatronic, etc. I think it's because the movie is made for the fans first and foremost, who already know a lot of the twists the games take (even if the movie continuity moves things around like who's related to William Afton and who isn't).

  • @the-aspiring-creator4249
    @the-aspiring-creator4249 Před 6 měsíci +2

    I feel like this movie from what I'm hearing is a testament to something that adaptations really need to consider to turn out great. It's one thing to be made for fans but that can only get you so far. For instance, I saw the Ratchet and Clank movie that came out in 2016. That was made in such a way that frankly only fans of the games were gonna get something out of it. Thankfully I am a fan and the nods and little quirks made me smile. However, thinking about it with a film-centered brain? I ask what exactly it offers people who aren't a part of that fandom and as the box office showed? Clearly not much.
    With FNAF? I think there's real potential in a horror story that can appeal to fans of the game but also fans of horror. I remember seeing glimpses of this movie and getting thoughts in my head about creative kills like the cupcakes chomping on a dude or say Foxy getting to show how limber he is and hooking a guy, the atmosphere and how they could incorporate the lore in such a way that gives it a slightly psychological edge and most importantly? Perhaps make alterations to the lore that allow it to not be basically Kingdom Hearts level of dense. Basically think how the American Ring film took out the psychic stuff that was in the original Ringu and allowed for Samara to be more mysterious and creepy. I'm glad fans are liking it but with what I'm hearing? The more I'm just gonna wait for a home and wide streaming release.

    @r4z0rv1n3 Před 6 měsíci +2

    The real problem with this is that the biggest fans of FNAF were younger kids. So that's why the PG-13 rating... I will say having no jump scares is baffling using this franchise... Cause that's literally the main mechanism of fear in the games.

    I feel like having Scott Cawthon being part of scripting is a deteriment cause he wouldn't cut something that is "lore" accurate to the deteriment of the movie. Even with a cursory knowledge of FNAF lore i know its a convoluted mess up their with the likes of Kingdom Hearts. You can see how convoluted its going to get with them introducing Balloon Boy, Golden Freddy and Vanessa in a coma in the end hinting that her spirit might be in one of the future animatronics

      @the-aspiring-creator4249 Před 6 měsíci +3

      This. Creators being involved is a great way to ensure the material at least skews close to the original material. However, they're not gods, they're not the be-all, end-all and sometimes make decisions that work for one medium but not for the others. You need to be able to sometimes look the creator dead in the eyes and say "No, that wouldn't work.".

    So to explain William Afton and his motive is that his motive for murder children and security guards in this movie is that his son had been killed in an accident with animatronic due to the neglected attention while his work partner Henry Emily who which in return william kills Henry's daughter as revenge and therefore leads into the eventual events of FNAF to him killing childrennand luring them into the backrooms to be killed and stuffed into the suits while the animatronics are in repair and so therefore onward eventually he gets caught and arrested by police but then is released due to lack of evidence and soon of course in movie gets a job and soon changes his name and soon enough as he had done that he continues his killing spree by hiring security guards to go to the pizzeria and eventually letting the animatronics take care of them for William while he's out doing whatever god knows what.

  • @jjenk911
    @jjenk911 Před 6 měsíci +3

    This movie is for the fans. However, there are some good stuff and one of the kill of that girl getting bitten in half is the their best kill. Also, the PG-13 rating is holding it back, where FNAF should be an R-rated movie or have an unrated cut of the movie. And it's sad that Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video games, was a producer of this movie, and he dropped the ball. #FiveNightsAtMid If you want a better FNAF movie, Willy's Wonderland or the Banana Splits Movie is what you want lol.
    Edit: I almost forgot, Cawthon wrote YA books around the FNAF games that extends the lore and not everyone read the books. Hell, MatPat is better at explaining the FNAF lore, so go over there lol.

    Is it weird that I agree with everything you guys said but still enjoyed the movie? 😅
    While I haven't played the games, I've casually followed some CZcamsrs who've played and discuss the lore. But as someone who grew up on The Muppet Show in the 70's and has had a ladyboner for Matthew Lillard since Hackers, I had to at least check it out. I totally agree that it was too plotty/lore dumpy with not enough time with the animatronics.

    #fivenightsatmid I totally agree with your review, it was very convoluted and kinda boring. I don't really know anything about the games so I'm not the target audience for it but still i wish it would have been better. it was one of those movies where i didn't hate it when I was watching it because it's mostly competently made and I was interested in seeing what would happen next cuz the animatronics had the potential of being really creepy, and it wasn't until it was over that I was like "well that added up to a whole lot of nothing"

    This doesn't matter cuz it's not made clear in the film if this has any bearing, but in the games and books, the implication for why the animatronics really attack the security guards is because Afton used to disguise himself as one and (in their fog of deadness) they implicitly understand adults = bad, security guards = worse. It's the same reason he dresses in the rabbit suit around them, so they won't see him as a threat. (Also, in the games, you play as Afton's son who looks just like him, basically painting a bullseye on yourself.)
    But Afton's real reason for wanting to kill Mike might be a future-movie thing. #FiveNightsAtMid
    Overall, the movie felt like an episode of Are You Afraid of he Dark, which is fitting, as the novels felt like Goosebumps books. Also, I've never been scared of teddy bears and bunnies, so I'm not disappointed.

    mild #spoilers for the games
    Yeah, from what I gathered from the game's lore, it's the spirits of the kids that are in the animatronics that kill the security guards, because they despise the adults who couldn't save them, and the adult who killed them, which makes much more sense. I feel like for this film, those who made it didn't have faith in the simplicity of the concept, and they wanted to make it something that it wasn't. I know the lore of the games is super convoluted, but the games themselves are fairly simple. Just survive five nights. I really agree with what you guys said : that there were in this scenario in fact 3 scenarios that could have standed on their own. It's the mashup that made the movie a bit of a mess.

  • @MrMToomey

    #FiveNightsatMid Alright I have lots to say:
    1. First off you're gonna M. Night Shayamalan the name and say Fozbear? Really?
    2. How did Jack stumble upon some of the deep lore by accident? Yes, people are frightened so that a substance called remnant is extracted from them to power necromancy; much like the vitae from Amnesia: Dark Descent. There is a legit theory that Vanessa is a robot. Jack, are you a wizard? Wizard vampire?
    3. I enjoyed the movie and would give it a solid 6. I think the biggest mistake critics have is trying to review the movie as an actual horror movie. It's supposed to be a goofy kids movie, which I think it was ok at.
    4. Yes, enjoying the movie is HEAVILY relient on the audience knowing the lore behind everything. I would probably rate the movie a 5 if I didn't.
    ---SPOILERS---
    Some cool things that a FNAF fan would know is that Mike Schmidt is actually Afton's son and Vanessa isn't actually Afton's daughter, but someone brainwashed to believe that she is. She might not even be a real cop.
