I saw this twice in theaters, once was a regular showing, then I managed to catch the 4DX version at the regal in Chicago, if you can see the 4DX version with the rumble seats and the water splash it's fucking awesome 👍
As of the time of this typing, I have seen this movie three times in the theatre in the span of a week and a half. That’s something I straight up never do, since I usually see movies twice in the theatre at the most. And each and every time I see this movie, I love it more. This movie is a blast and a half, and I’m glad I saw this one this year.
It was a very good movie it reminded me a lot of my great uncle and him telling me about how he was occupational soldier in Japan right after World War II just before he got sent to Korea to fight.
This... this FUCKING movie! This is my favorite movie of the year now! Talk about a late hit. This had my girlfriend in tears, and she NEVER cries at a movie! It had me in tears three times (Koichi's breakdown, Noda's speech, and the ending reunion). So yes. I did take a date to see it.

amazing film. i never expected a godzilla film to get me emotional but this film did it.

Now hopefully people of a certain community will not try to compare this movie with the other Godzilla and Kong movie coming out next year because they're two different animals one is meant to be thought-provoking the other one is popcorn entertainment.

"Godzilla Minus One" has a production budget of only 15 million USD but the overall cinematic quality is better than movies with 100 to 300 million US$ budgets. Japan is pure genius 👏 🙌

This is the first Toho Godzilla movie I've ever seen, completely, and I was totally blown away with how much I enjoyed it. Easily, one of this year's best, and I couldn't have been happier with it. #GODZILLAPLUSONE!
Go back and watch the original Japanese Gojira. It's a masterpiece, and works as a great companion piece to Minus One.

It's always cool when monster movies get to have really good themes and messages and are able to actually mean something without compromise. I feel like that's tricky to do properly.

Shin Godzilla, The Host and Monsters are good examples of movies that accomplish this well.
It’s awesome to see so many are really loving this film.
Here's hoping the film will finally be released here in SE Asia, so I can take my wife as my #GODZILLAPLUSONE.
Also, because you liked the non Godzilla parts of the movie, might want to check out the directors original Trilogy, Always: Sunset on 3rd Street. It's a slice of life series of films about a small community in Tokyo back in the late 50's to early 60's. ( Methinks the director may have gone back to the well of his early films for inspiration on the dynamics of the people.)

I saw this movie twice. I loved it. It is that good. Best Godzilla movie I have seen in a long time.
I also loved how they used classic sounds, like the original roar in parts and the end credits version of the theme from Godzilla vs. Destroyah #GODZILLAPLUSONE

Disagree at the beginning about bullets not being able to harm Godzilla. Given the usual Godzilla implication the movie goes with, that the giant monster aspect is the result of exposure to atomic testing, I'd ascribe his unnatural healing ability to that, along with his freakish size and atomic breath. At that beginning it's unclear if the aircraft's 20mm machine guns would have done damage when the rifles were not, but since he seems to be just an animal at that point, there's a fair chance it would have caused some damage even if it didn't kill him, but since it's never demonstrated, we don't know.
Also a note on Noda, the scientist character. He is a former Naval Engineer. It's not clear if he was let go at the end of the war or departed for his own reasons, but he does a lot of what he does because of that background.
Have to totally agree on all the other points. Such a damned good film!
Finally got to watch the movie. Damn, the Godzillasaurus in the movie was really chonky.
Curious to see if they make more movies in this continuation from here on out...

As for Noriko... Um. Given how injured she is, odds are she'll die from Radiation Poisoning... #GodzillaPlusOne

#godzillaplusone I adored this movie, I'm not that big of a kaiju "let's watch monsters beat each other up" fan, but I love giant creatures attacking people fan and I thought godzilla looked great in this and I was genuinely terrified of him. I think Noriko being alive at the end was a little "war of the worlds"-ish (I hadn't thought of that movie to compare it to but you're spot on) but I was so happy for the characters that I almost didn't care? I did think it undercut some of the most devastating emotional moments in the middle of the film, but I like what you said about how it is consistent with the theme of not glamorizing self sacrifice and I hadn't thought about it like that. The only thing i would say is that making a split second decision to save someone you deeply care about even at personal cost is very different than dying in a war/throwing your life away for some kind of "honor" or just being suicidal (which was the case with our main character no matter how he tried to dress it up as some noble thing). So even if Noriko had stayed dead I don't think it would have ruined the message. Also, while I loved the film and I would love to see the same filmmakers make more godzilla movies, part of me doesn't want a sequel because honestly I just want the characters to happy and to be left alone, which feels like a weird thing to say about a kaiju movie. Anyway, good review as always, thank you for listening to me rant lol

Sadly not with a date but I am thinking about going to see it with my dad. We used to watch the old movies all the time when they were on tv.
I am relieved that they went with 'Minus One' and not something like 'Year Zero' 😬.
There is a lot of anime that makes controversial allusions to the second World War in regards to Japan (looking at YOU Attack on Titan, Code Geass, Star Blazers etc etc). So it isn't surprising that yet another Anime director, following Hideaki Anno with his Shin Godzilla, is coming forth with their own take on the scaly enfant terrible of Japanese pop culture. Godzilla breathes allegory as much as atomic blasts.

1. The neighbor wasn't "grandma". They literally say "auntie" in the movie.
2. Guess you need to update your German reading LOL The mechanic did NOT install an ejection seat. It was ALREADY installed. The German text on the seat literally says Ejection Seat :)
This is a movie where Japanese people fight Godzilla with bandaged heads and broken arms, the anti-woke grifters saying this had no message are idiots. I don’t think I’ve seen a film this politically charged that was also uplifting and functional as a narrative this year. I loved the mine sweeping scene with the wooden boat. So glad this didn’t turn into a Yukio Mishima propaganda piece where Imperial Japan revives its death cult. #GodzillaPlusUltra
With this movie, legacy of monsters and GxK the new empire I say us Goji fans are eating like kings 🔥🔥🔥🎉🥳🎊
I saw it Sunday. Awesome movie! I hope they make a sequel. They could call it #GODZILLAPLUSONE.
Okay, Let me start by saying, the first half hour to 40 ish minutes were the most tedious brain numbing "get on with it" moments I've had no n cinema in a long time. Then the previews were finally over and holy shit was this not a fantastic film?!? Wow.. The story was captivating, the effects were better than they had any right to be, the acting was too notch and there was a monster destroying the city and for the first time I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Bravo!
Godzilla on land walking reminded me of a guy in a suit. (more of a tribute than a detriment) now SPOILERs!!!!!!
I caught the ejector seat right away and though I appreciated the live interest living at the end, I feel it was filmed in a way where (even in a oversized dinosaur Monster destroying the city movie) there was no way she lived.
I let it slide though because what a fucking movie!!!! A+!!

Probably the best Godzilla of this century. Seventy years is pretty crazy huh. And I usually love When Godzilla is a metaphor for a curse on the minds and souls of the Japanese people. Punishing them for their hubris, greed, and weaknesses. #Godzillaplusone
The movie is called Godzilla Minus One but Godzilla was in the movie and was NOT may I mind you was not Minus One, this is the worst movie ever and the title is bullshit it should've been called #GodzillaPlusOne instead I'm giving this movie zero stars the movie sucks don't waste your time and see this movie.
