Doesn't take a picture of the jacket or bring the jacket to court and then when ordered to take a picture when home he can't find it. This guy is a piece of work. Ladies get a good look at him and avoid him like the plague.

Yea I kinda side eyed the verdict because i’m like huh? The $1000 was something HE offered to her. She definitely should have(at least) gotten the $800 back. Actually I think she should have gotten all of her money back because he was sketchy on not having photos or bringing the jackets to court.

Probably it depends on whether the law considers a unregistered business with a partner as a business deal or loan sharking. I dont suppose the law makers are that stupid to leave such a big gaping loophole to allow loansharkers to get away claiming it is a business deal

“Investment” with a return; no loan ever “promises” a hefty return of profit. That’s what makes it loan sharking! Because - it also sounds as if that’s the only reason she loaned him the money (to get the profit).

Exactly. Just like the police can lie to you all day long, but if you lie to them it's a crime. Lots of our laws have nothing to do with protecting citizens.
Banks and financial institutions do not loan shark, gangster and mobsters do that.

The mobster has to loan you cash that they actually have on hand. The bank loans you "money" they create out of thin air, called fractional reserve banking. If you don't pay, the mobster might break your legs. The bank will take everything you've got and destroy your credit score so you can't get a decent job, rent an apartment, and thus you're unable to pay anything back. They will ruin your life for at least a decade.
Personally, I don't borrow money. "Legally" or otherwise. Simply because both options are horrible.
Usury is charging an amount above interest rates. Each state has set the amount that you can charge. Banks also can not charge interest over a set amount.

The epilogue is wrong. He said he had the coat. So, if now he says he can't find the coat, then an award for the value of the coat should have been given to Plaintiff. I think Plaintiff gave the coat to a different "girlfriend". LOL He says she was his "girlfriend", but they didn't date because he didn't want nuthin' serious. Hmmm. "Girlfriend" is not the right word or a woman you boink, but don't date!

the law is in place to prevent people from taking advantage of poor people. if there was no regulation against usury, one small emergency loan could indebt economically disadvantaged people for their entire life. in countries with less protections against usury, poor families can basically be submitted into a life of indentured servitude due one medical bill.
I think judge explained the Law pretty clearly. Re-watch the clip again...

The plaintiff got greedy and instead of just claiming for the $800 she lent him, she wanted the $1000 interest as well and because that's being a loan-shark, she gets nothing. Had she just claimed for the $800, he certainly wasn't going to say 'but we agreed I'd pay her an extra $1000', so she should have just been happy with suing for $800, ha ha ha. Don't people ever ask legal advice BEFORE filing a court case?...

I think it was clearly a business deal. She said she loaned the money, but also said she was supposed to get $1000 of the profits. She had her descriptive terms wrong, but it WAS a business deal.
