Back when this was first released, this song was played often at parties. When it came on, we used to sit around the speakers on floor, listening to the "light and shade" and the delicate parts of the song. We especially loved when the sound jumped from speaker to speaker at the end.
"Some level of greatness"? This is greatness....period.
J P Jones bass playing on this and all Led Zeppelin is sneaky good
rockit flash We got a glimpse of what was in store on LZ 1. LZII is JP’s best bass playing album. I thinks it right in you face spectacular, not sneaky at all lol. The bass lines here are not just good but influential as well.
Always great.. bit on Zep II he walks all over the place!
and his Organ skills, christ!
Jimmy's playing makes me smile too
This is one of those Led Zeppelin song when you first listen to; you thought you got them figured out and then they hit you a switch ups. Such a fantastic song.
THIS. I think that's what surprised me most, I just wasn't expecting this at all.
Such a cool bassline on this
Love this song. Takes me back; I wore this album out.
There was a phasing effect added to Robert's vocals. It definitely adds a dreamy quality to the song. Sometimes their music is an invitation, sometimes a seduction, other times a demand that you follow and the emotions that are conjured are as different as each listener.
Henrietta Skolnick well said
Perfectly said
Imagine this hitting the air waves and blowing thousands of minds at the same time. I was there. It was a great time to be a teenager.
Yup! I remember those years: we came form Jimmy Hendrix, Santana, Canned Heat, the Stones, CSN, ect... But when these guys came out... Boy!! They where just.... WOW! And this song is perhaps one of the underestimated ones. It has everything: blues, melody, power cords and Plant's explosive voice! Defenetly one of my favorites!
Gallows Pole, Out On The Tiles....honestly I love every song on every album! Been into Zep since the 70s. Just a phenominal band, which is great to see you react to. 💜
i have been listening to this tune since 1969 (8 years old) and I am still developing an appreciation for it. almost gets better with each listen.
I love this song!
It's good to see youngsters feeling the power of these four guys...
Experimental? Oh you just wait this rabbit hole holds many goodies🎆 love your honest review. So very glad you are back🥰
Oh my, can't wait to see what awaits me!
Great use in “Silver Linings Playbook”. Led Zeppelin even more powerful with visuals.
I’m really glad you’re back doing reactions! You provide unique insight to what is happening with Zep’s music. Each album is an experience, and I continue to have these experiences through the 52 years I’ve listened to them. I really like this song. So different, so many elements.
When you relisten to the songs listen to each individual each time, youl find soooo much depth and subtlety behind the crushing power they had
This is jazz that gets to the point.
One of their best among many great tunes
This song will grow on you as do all Zeppelin songs.
So...cant wait for The Lemon Song.
And a bunch of other great songs, like Ramble On, and my favorite, Thank You, my wedding song.
You should def check out the very next track! The Lemon Song!
Steve Trowbridge let’s be honest, he needs to check every song 😁

Just uploaded my reaction to it! czcams.com/video/dyL7HzukNH4/video.html
What a 'king piece of work, never loses its brilliance..
OH DAMN MY FAVORITE!!! ❤❤❤
So awesome!
Try bring it on home you won't be disappointed
Excited to hear this one!
Regarding your comment “experimental”... I’m pretty sure JP Jones said when the band first got together they agreed to 1 rule - there are NO rules.
This allowed then to be free to play what they wanted, when they wanted, go in any direction they wanted. Perhaps each album was experimenting based on their growth as a band.
Love that.
Songs like this make it hard to pick a favorite of this album! It has a lil bit of everything!!🤘🏻
Yes, good call....you need to listen to this one multiple times and you will really like it.
This confirmed for me that Page was not only the most versatile guitarist but also an absolute master of studio effects. The Beatles needed George Martin to magically ef produce whimsical arrangements.
Supposedly this is one of John Paul Jones favorites. It's a great tune. It was funny watching your confusion about the direction of the song. Let's just say "predictable" is definitely not something Zeppelin is known for. They are so good with threatening the thunder and then when you expect things to go in a certain direction that is when they come in with the right thunder hook to deliver a KO... that's my boxing analogy. If you think things are getting strange wait until you get to the Lemon Song next. It has a great recipe for making lemonade ;)
The effect on Robert Plant's voice was possibly a flanger or phase shifter. While it is a psychedelic sounding song, it's interesting to hear that Emmanuel thought there was too much going on to give a full opinion until he listens more. I think it might be a generational thing, because to my ear, having listened to it when it first came out, it's feels like a relatively straight forward song, compared to other Led Zep songs.
Glass 24 This kid knows how to listen to music, you can see him concentrating and keying in on the instruments and structure of the songs. Yet because of today’s vanilla music , the same beat throughout, most of the younger kids are not used to a song building up and all the the different riffs and rhythms , it throws them off. They especially get thrown off by a long intro.
@@dickslinger7979 Good points.
Glass 24 I would agree in the fact that among zeppelin songs, it’s very straight forward, the drums follow the exact same pattern throughout the whole song
Please react to "bring it on home" live 1970 Albert Hall
That performance literally blows the studio cover out of the water
good call.... that whole concert was awesome
Appreciate the recommendation! I want to make sure I explore the albums and live performances in chronological order. Was this performance during this time?
Not if you are doing this chronologically, It is off Led Zeppelin II 1969, My enthusiasm got the better of me, but there's nothing wrong with doing a bit of jumping around, whatever you decide is ok with me, I shall just have to wait. @@emmanuelflores9983
@@emmanuelflores9983 Welcome 🙏 to Led Zeppelin Son.
It takes TWO YEARS for people to catch up to Zeppelin.
possibly the most powerful guitar finale ever
John Paul Jones' favourite Zep song along with Kashmir
A "groovy" song like this was only heard on FM back in the day. FM was where the cool stations were.
King Biscuit Flower Hour and Firesign Theatre, lol..
Absolutely WNEW 102.7 FM out of NYC back in the day.
@@vernhoke7730 For Los Angeles it was, KLOS, KMET and KPPC and Later it was KROQ
This is just a suggestion, on your first listen focus on the music don't try and figure what the song means or what Plant's saying just take it all in. Having said that i think you are doing a fantastic job and don't need to change anything.
Feel the music first then listen to the lyrics later
The phasing sound was made famous by Hendrix on the song "Axis Bold as love " but he said he got it from someone else.
That's the thing about zep. You cant think any one song will be the same song through and through. You can turn it to 4 different parts and think you're listening to 4 different songs. Led zeppelin is the greatest rock and roll band of all time.
This track and "Ramble On" are 2 of my favourite Zeppelin tracks. I love them all, but if push comes to shove.....
One of my favorites
Glad you’re back Dude...one of their great tunes. But aren’t they all. 😎✌️👍
One of my favorites!
Anyone who was anybody, had this album glued to their arm, often passing others in the street, with their copy!!!
Love the. Chronological approach..
It would be impossible for me to pick a favorite Led Zeppelin song, but if I had to, this might be it. It's definitely at least top 5. (Oh, and they do add a bit of flange on his vocals in parts of this song, that may be the effect you heard. It gives it that 'dreamy' quality.)
I play this one more than I play Whole Lotta Love
I’m glad that you didn’t pause the song in order to talk in between.. like most reactors do..
Also, listen to yes. It can happen, starship trooper, owner of lonely heart etc
Really enjoying your reactions! You're giving great thoughts and not being annoying like a lot of reactors.
Pick an album any album and just let it play grab a drink and let em spin
I'm not sure what the effect on Robert Plant was, maybe some kind of Leslie Rotary speaker effect.
You have got to react to Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven, the studio version. Make sure to react to the studio version before any live versions.
Welcome 🙏 to Led Zeppelin son.
Spoiler alert-all songs and all albums are good,up to and including Physical Graffiti. There are really no bad songs nor mediocre songs, they are either pretty good, really good or great and beyond.I'm glad you played this one,it's been so long and I had forgotten about it.Awesome kinky, quirky song.
Fantastic song! :)
Welome to LZ! :-)
It's like a radio top ten rock song hit, all those years ago. Masterfully funky..
Led Zeppelin II was, among other things, a precursor of grunge
amazing, dude!! React to "when the leeve breaks" pls!!!!!!! "Lemon song" tooo
Ramble On.
If you were to rank the top 6 Led Zeppelin albums number one would be their 1st 6!
I could never figure out this meaning of the song ,never looked it up but it must be about the thread here ..
Many LZ pieces use one type or other of a fanfare.
My mans looks so confused when plant starts his screaming lyrics
Try the 3rd album
This song demonstrates perfectly the inability of digital sound to reproduce the bass the way it would be heard on an analog system. (Although, your system sounds better attuned than most for hearing the bass)
Led zeppelin they are untouchable the kings of rock and roll know one can match them its over for everyone one else sorry people they can try but they know when led zeppelin came out they put a end for every other rock band led zeppelin music is forever haters admit it so do not bring me the Beatles or the stones or pink Floyd or the who nothing compares to led zeppelin master's of rock and roll
Headphones best on this song
i think you miss a lot listening to this on headphones as compared to a good pair of stereo speaker. Yes on headphones you get the crossover from left to right and back and forth. But with speakers you have this hugh sound stage that you can't get from headphones.
Watch/Listen to Rag n Bone Man Die Easy!!!!!!!
Compare it to Led Zep In my time of dying!
"Okay, okay....what?
Hello Emmanuel, you do know that entering this rabbit hole will become an obsession? :)
What is? Led Zeppelin
What should never be? No Led Zeppelin
"What Is and What Should Never Be" - The "softer side" of Led Zeppelin......... KINDA........
Can it be that you did not realise the solo was played with a bottleneck?
Great song. Love the breakdown/outro at the end with jimmy's guitar coming in left and right ear, with the gong hit by bonzo. This is a must reaction, you'll love this. czcams.com/video/Z2eTW8qZBtk/video.html
