Jimmy's fretpicking style in this solo inspired Eddie Van Halen's guitar technique.
Truth
Yep
No way?! That's awesome. Might have to react to some of Van Halen's work!
Right - it was Jimmy's double pull-offs ascending the neck (as in the "Heartbreaker" solo featured here) that Eddie expounded upon to develop the right-hand tapping technique. However beyond that, Eddie never had any respect for Jimmy's playing because Jimmy was never committed to being technically accurate. Translation: He was always sloppy.
@@DDEENY I have to side with Eddie. After years of playing guitar and watching others far more skilled with it, it got to the point where the flaws/sloppiness in a lot of Jimmy's playing became obvious. I now see Jimmy's true genius not in his technical prowess with the fretboard, but with arranging, production and engineering, and cultivating _the sound_ of Led Zeppelin, to which his "rough edges" added much character.
I wait for your zeppelin reactions! Lol
Love it! Thanks so much for the support :-)
The rhythm section in this band was truly incredible. The bass line in "Living loving maid" is masterful .
This is my all-time favorite. I love the way they tagged the two songs together. The drums on "Living Loving Maid" stand out so well they become their own sideshow.
Love that fat baseline from JPJ in Heartbreaker it's so good. They never played Livin' Lovin' Maid live Jimmy hated that song. Next song Ramble On Robert's vocals on 🔥😎
That baseline is KILLER!
It wasn't that long ago I finished following soultrainbro's journey through Zeppelin's studio albums, and I'm absolutely 100% ready to go through them all again with you my man :)
soultrain bro missed alot of songs
@@brianrussell6570 nope.. he got 'em all (he didn't post the crunge 'cause he didn't really like it)... some were blocked by youtube but they're on his vimeo or patreon.. now he's on to live and unreleased/rare tracks.
@@brianrussell6570 He did got them all now he doing solo's career stuff and about to do all their live stuff.
Me too😜STB is awesome
@@brianrussell6570 STB is still on his LZ journey
For “Heartbreaker” you definitely need to check out the live version, live at either Madison square garden or Earls Court 1975. Both versions are great and Jimmy Page crushes the song and his solo, where no one can play it note for note🤘
Yes
And if anyone would know....it's Les Paul :D
Please do!
is that where he breaks into Bolero after the solo? Oh Jimmy
“that riff just screams trouble” i couldn’t have said it better
That bass is SUPER heavy in this song.
Best Led Zeppelin songs....
BLACK DOG
THE OCEAN
OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY
TRAMPLED UNDER FOOT
HOUSES OF THE HOLY
and my favorite,
HEY HEY WHAT CAN I DO
LLM was about an older groupie that would try to follow Jimmy around NY. Both Jimmy and Robert considered the song a throwaway piece and never liked it. Jimmy was angry to hear how US radio stations would play the songs together because he felt they had nothing in common.
On Led Zep's album there's no real gap between the 2 songs which is probably why the 2 get played together so much.
It was NOT Jimmy on the backing vocals, unless I’m very much mistaken. It was Bonham. He had a great voice. Plant, who was best mates with Bonzo, has commented that there were many fine singers inBonham’s family. When Zep did their O2 Celebration Day concert in 2007, Bonhams son, Jason, played the drums and did the backup vocals, following in his father’s footsteps...doubly!
Wow, what a talented family!!
On the live version on How The West Was Won, Jimmy even throws in a little Bach! Bach's "Bourrée in E minor. And a snippet of Simon and Garfunkel in the Heartbreaker solo.
Great song. The 2nd song Great too and shows IF Zeppelin wanted to be A pop band they could have.
That bass! JPJ!!!!
Once again WELCOME BACK💖 Oh so happy you did these 2 songs as they were my first songs listen to @ 13 deep in the basement of a friend's 🏠🎶🎶But YOUR JOY makes everything extra good. GREAT reaction✌️
FM radio. Back in the day.
Great to see you back making reactions, you're getting deeper into the Zeppelin rabbit hole. You're gonna love the album Physical Graffiti
Glad you're back!
Love your channel. Led Zeppelin and The Beatles were two groups that were in a league of their own. Two perfect bands. Knowing that you love Zep as much as I do, I saw them 4 times in my lifetime, you HAVE TO REACT to Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, from the first album. One of their best all time songs. And when you get around to it, Give a listen to Ramble On from the second album and Kashmir. You will never be disappointed listening to any Led Zeppelin songs, but give those a try as soon as you can, you won't regret it. Keep up the great reactions. I love watching people react and fall in love with their extraordinary talent, presence and uniqueness. Definitely one of the most influential bands all time.
Excellent.......album...my second album i bought in 1970. I LOVE seeing your "Stank Face" when the music scratches your soul!!!!
You will usually hear a guitar solo...it was the time of guitar solos, and great guitar players were idols back then. The fans went to concerts to hear those extended solos.....and to see Plant of course.😁 But Jimmy started the band, and had pretty much already laid out the songs for the first two albums. It wasn’t until the third album that Robert really started collaborating with Jimmy and they became such a stellar songwriting duo for almost a decade.
Side note: they continued being a stellar songwriting duo in the '90s, their 'Walking Into Clarksdale' album especially is waaaay underrated.
Darnaguen agreed. It is a shame that that partnership didn’t continue, but perhaps they both felt it had run its course, and Plant went on to do his deep dive into Americana and Mountain music with Allison Kraus and Patty Griffin.....ever seeking out the new to keep himself musically sharp and stimulated. Love his work with Strange Sensation/ Sensational Shape Shifters.
Most fans aren't aware that in spite of the decades of faithful airplay received by this medley, it not only was never intended as a medley but "Living, Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" was to a man Zeppelin's least favorite number for the fact that they considered it too poppy for their taste. This song was never touched or mentioned by the band ever again, not even a single instance in concert or even soundchecks, and it was conspicuously excluded from the first LZ Box Set collection and "Heartbreaker" was presented without it.
Hey Emmanuel lovin your reactions, HA HA I know what’s coming you’ve not even scratched the surface looking foreword to witnessing your journey 😃😃😃😎
This is the first of your reaction videos I have seen. Excellent! You deserve more subscribers. I’m in. Liked & subscribed. Thank you.
It's interesting how when someone starts getting into Led Zep, they are initially in most cases (myself included...33 years) drawn in by the masterful guitar playing and sound of Jimmy and the incredible, distinctive vocals of Robert. Emmanuel I can guarantee as you start getting deeper into this journey, more and more you will start appreciating and taking notice of the exceptional talents of the two Johns. Their rhythm section helped define the sound as much as Page and Plant in that there is no drummer quite like Bonham in rock history and Jones is like the backbone of the group with his allround versatility and incredible musicianship.
I love seeing you “finding Led Zeppelin “ after your comment that you can’t believe it took you 24 years to find Jimmy Page! 🎸I found them at age 8 & never looked back!!
Thank you for not over talking during the music or pausing the video like some do.
Ramble is a popular radio play but another banger by the Mighty Led Zeppelin!! Can’t wait til you hear Bring it on Home from the same album! That bluesy sound and that harmonica! You are gonna dig it!✌️
Livin love maid is like an after dinner mint
Ramble on...Plants playing with lyrics that involve Lord of the Rings
Will keep this in mind when reacting, thanks for letting me know!
while the merging of the two songs is most likely a happy accident , it always came off to me that Living Loving Maid was a sequel to Heartbreaker even tho it is really not. so glad you listened to the two songs together as that was always my experience when I was a young girl back in the early 80's .It is funny that you mention the idea that heartbreaker is the better song. isn't the first always better than the sequel [most of the time anyway].
Agreed! LLM is solid but something about Heartbreaker just resonates with me! Mannnn I can't imagine what it must've been like listening to this music back then.
@@emmanuelflores9983 and I always imagined what it must have been like being a young person listening to great music and even attending a concert back in the late 60's thru the 70's . sadly I got into Led Zep a couple of years after the great John " Bonzo " Bonham passed away . I am grateful for folks like yourself giving me a chance to relive the excitement of discovering great music thru your eyes and ears .
you should hear this on vinyl
All one needs is one filthy riff after another and now you have a classic!
Wait till you here Ramble On. One of the great songs of all times.
Just want to hear to Ramble on next
In 1979 my drumming technique was enhanced by the sweet nuances John Bonham provided in Livin lovin maid... then Neil entered
When The Levee Breaks, Whole Lotta Love, You Shook Me
with led zeppelin you get so more than great music it sucks you in like no other. you go on a jouney.
Yeah, the guitar break was added in late in the day, but listen to JPJ on bass. That fucking stood out to me when I first heard it.
Heartbreaker has one of the only "guitar solo" solos. This song is about confidence in the face of heartbreak. Party is still going. I agree
Heartbreaker is top 5 in my book that keeps an interchangeable top 5 when it comes to LZ. It's hard to pick my favorite by this band. They have about 50 songs that are my favorite by them. That's why they are # 1 in my book. Been that way since the late 60s.
LZ had the most tracks on my, 'getting ready to play sports' on a high-quality cassette tape, followed by AC/DC and Black Sabbath.
Alimony is for a lifestyle to stay the same-I know, craziest law.
We have to do the Zepaton...

The Lemon Song is another song on Led Zep Ii you should listen to if you haven't yet.
This is the kind of reason Iron Butterfly (among others) refused to headline above them in the end. There was nothing left.
Can't really look at baby boomers in quite the same light once you hear what our music was like
After hearing both these tunes back to back, you will understand why they have to listened to this way! 😎✌️👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Dude you have to check out Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble...once you’re done with Zep. You will love them as much as you do Zep.
I've been looking to sprinkle in some new music, I'll add Stevie to my list!
Interesting fact about Living Loving Maid, Zeppelin never played this song live because Jimmy said it was too easy and therefore no fun for him to play.
True, Living Lovig Maid was Jimmy’s least favorite song.
Theirs another song about a street Walker it's called hey hey what can I do of course another great song its on the coda album he's got a woman that wants to ball all day another word for sex...again great reaction and a good analogy your my fav reactor to zeppelin
A lot of Led Zeppelin songs are about a man being hard done to by a woman, which is not true of their own lives I feel as the power was on their side in real life. However it's very appealing to seem vulnerable and I think they knew that, but they were also just following the themes of some old blues songs.
I saw Jimmy in an interview discussing Livin Lovin Maid. He wrote the song, and felt like he was too cynical. That’s when he decided Robert should write the lyrics he would be singing.
Thank You ends side 1 on the album. With 33 records, it would be like an intermission to flip to side 2. That's one way to look at it.
Ohhhhhh, that actually makes a lot more sense to me. Thanks for the info
Awww. John Bonohm..
Some consider Page's guitar solo in this to be near impossible to recreate accurately. I don't know, I might be able to get the first note or two.
Yeah I can see why it's so hard to recreate, I'd be lucky to hit more than 2 notes lol
Jimmy can definitively sing, here's a single he made in 1965, where he play every instrument (vocal, guitar, harmonica ... except drums) : czcams.com/video/GcCbb12Jnx0/video.html
Good to watch these nostalgia comments
Jimmy refrused to play living loving maid live bc he hated it so much
But he's credited with writing it?
Men if you gonna react to a live version of Heartbreaker, check out the performance in Paris 1969 on Olimpia Theater, please dude, is de best version, at the beginning
When this album released radio DJs in the USA had a hard time with the quick break between the songs. Eventually they gave up and just let both songs play. It's a tradition to play both now. Oddly enough Jimmy Page hates LLM and never played it live in concert.
I know...used to work in a big radio station wvbf in Massachusetts back in the day...
Here is the Live version...czcams.com/video/BZ7CZ7nLWZ4/video.html
Ramble on is next and an absolute classic.
I highly recommend a version with lyrics because they're great. It's pretty much the hobbits journey from the hobbit/Lord of the rings. Here's a link with lyrics.

You have my exact name wtf
the bassline on heartbreaker is FILTHY!!!
AMEN
speaking of filthy, I really got to do the dishes -I hate when they start leaning over the edge of the sink (exaggerating) but u know ....
I can't find your zep l reactions
Watch/Listen to Rag n Bone Man Die Easy!!!!!!!
Compare it to Led Zep In my time of dying!
I love the songs. I could have done without the trite, banal commentary. This thing autoplayed after the standard HB/LLM while I was under the sink fixing a problem, and when I finally got out, I was amazed at the 259-6 +ratio, and that 259 other people hung on till the end of this if they weren't trapped doing plumbing. He seems like a nice guy, and I only downvote for malice, not style or vacuity, but if he did this at the parties I go to, he would be mocked.
Zeppelin's lyrics have never been important to me. I only listen to Robert's voice as its own instrument, carrying melody lines through an incredible library of music, alongside some of the greatest players ever. Easier to enjoy music when not analyzing it.
Filthy bass on Heartbreaker, JPJ is the man.
How can you be so uninformed ?????
