      Brilliant video man, thanks for this. It's a shame they used Toshiba over Samsung. Also upgraded the WifiCard to the Intel AC-Wireless 9260 as the Killer kept losing connection. The new card also features BT 5.0. The range really does improve. Again, Thanks for a great video Matt!

      Matt, I'm really thinking to use an e-GPU such as Nvidia RTX 2080Ti with the AKiTiO Node Pro as I want to be able to do more with after effects and I like AE and PP to work as real time as possible.
      I can't find anyone who's used it with this laptop.
      Do you think it'll help significantly with previews and renders?
      Thanks in advance!

    Thank you so much for making this video. I’m currently working with a desktop build that was originally meant for short 1080p videos. But as my career has expanded I’ve been in desperate need of a computer upgrade. While I did upgrade the desktop a bit more by adding in a new i7 processor, I knew I wanted to make the change to primarily storing on the desktop and having a laptop as a my main computer. I was sooooo tired of being locked away in my room like the hunchback of notre dam. I wanted the flexibility of being able to at least be in the presence of my family as I edit, and this new laptop will give me that. It should be coming in within the next few days (i did opt for the 4K touch screen, but I’m mainly the most excited about a shorter rendering time, hallelujah lol). Sorry for the ramble, but I say allllll this to say THANK YOU for making your channel. I get so much value out of your content. Stay awesome

    Fantastic review Matt. I have the previous model with i7 2.8 Ghz processor (4 cores/8 threads), 32GB RAM and HD 630 grahics + GTX 1050 vid card. I'm getting really decent performance still with Da Vinci Resolve Studio grading 4K footage. I'd love to upgrade to a 6 or 8 core version, but cost is huge so may have to wait a while longer. Appreciate the depth you went into with your review, very helpful.

I've been thinking about getting a new laptop for on the road editing but had bad results with a very fast beefy MSI gaming laptop which totally bricked from a firmware patch but now that i learned about your proxies video i might consider getting that dell laptop. Do you use proxies when editing 4k or many edits and transitions in a timeline on your dell laptop and does that help it to be smooth editing?

    You're able to edit 4k footage in Premiere Pro even with some effects on it, without it lagging...? Do you use proxies? Or native 4k from camera? I have the same laptop (with 32GB Ram), and when I create a Premiere Pro Project, and import my Fujifilm X-T3 4k F-Log footage and place it on the timeline. Playback is very laggy, stopping every couple of seconds... Any idea?

    Hey man, doing some research on a new video editing laptop and I came across this video. Hopefully you see this comment since it's been a couple of months now.
    But would you recommend the new Surface Laptop 3 with the 10th gen Quad Core i7 over this? It's slightly cheaper

      @@whoismatt I have an old hardcore Dell Latitude E6420 (work/research computer from my hospital) - that has managed to render a few videos, but I admit, haven't pushed it :-)

    Hey Matt!Love the video! I bought this laptop over a month ago but I've actually had problems with the color calibration as every photo i edit on this laptop tends to look under saturated on any other device and those color calibrating programs are not cheap lol.

      @whoismatt  Před 5 lety

      Hey thanks! I would look at the "Dell Premiere Color" settings on your laptop. Dell has some weird color stuff that software can mess with on your laptop, and that may be why you're seeing different colors.

    I know your channel and video are focused on video editing, and the video editing aspects of this Laptop. I have one for the same purpose, and I love it! However, it must be noted that the audio drivers, sound card, and Waves software on this laptop are BUTT! After a deep dive, many people on the Dell support pages and Dell subreddit have this problem. There's a lot of unnecessary latency, which leads to crackling and static. MaxxAudioPro is also enabled by default, which makes dialogue and vocals sound like they're being spoken into a Pringles can. This actually can be an issue during video editing too, but this is most obvious using DAWs and other audio production software. More reviews on CZcams should point this out!
    Thanks for the review Matt. Good stuff.

      I agree. Did you find a solution to these issues? I've been using a Dell docking station and running the audio out from there. Seems to sound better. The headphone jack straight out of the laptop sounds awful.

    hi, does anyone here have a serious banding issue and bad mid-tones in Dell XPS 15? It was a recommended laptop for photo and video editing, 4k display, awesome colours hurray, but stuff like that happens. I have BIOS and drivers up to date, downloaded Dell PremierColor, intel graphics settings and nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this or have better laptop in mind? Thanks a lot

    Do you edit video or store photos on a thunderbolt drive? The internal drive isnt large enough to hold many projects. Id like to go this route if rendering off an thunderbolt drive is still good performance. I dont want to have to be copying projects to and from the internal; drive to seal with its Fast; but finite space

    The exhaust fan is located behind the hinge, it looks cleanner, but the screen is actually blocking the vent out. I got my unit for little under 1200$ for i5/8300H/8GB/256G and I plan to upgrade RAM and SSD later, and i dont think you need that 8750H because it is going to thermal throttle anyway.

    Just got mine after trying to edit 4K with my MB Pro from 2013. And I got it totally loaded. I am very happy that I got it. Having used Mac forever and apple produces I could not see spending $2000 more for something equal to the machine. Apple is just trying to make us pay way more so it looks like there profits are still up to their stock holders and they are selling product like they use to do. I’ts time for people to quit kissing apples sweet core (he he) and get one that is cheaper but better. One thing you did not mention was it is up gradeable. Just unscrew the back!!!!!! Congrats on the beautiful baby.

  • @Daniel-ls1gb
    @Daniel-ls1gb Před 4 lety

    The upgradability of this laptop is also crazy too, upgrading the RAM to 32 GBs is something that's easy to do yourself and you can pop in a 1 TB Samsung EVO that would be faster than the stock SSD as well. 4 Lanes of PCIe through thunderbolt also means that you can easily attach an eGPU better than the highest mobile 1050 inside it if you need the GPU performance which also helps the longevity of the machine.
