Side note: You (who ever reads this) could cloned the drive using macurum reflect before swapping out the SSD. To make it easer, get a external M.2 empty case install the new drive in said external case then plug it into the USB port. Clone the drive, then swap them out (take the drive out of case and take old drive out of laptop then swap). Then take your old drive and install it into the external case and now you have a portable M.2 drive. Also you can help friends out if they want to make the swap later on using the external case.

Wow. I really love this video because I did the same update on an XPS 9530 around the same time you created this video, and I also did the same thing you did with the 500GB SSD that came with the laptop (I used it as an external hard drive). If I had seen this video before doing the update, I would have felt more confident about performing the update, but in the end everything works fine. Thank you for being just the way you are... I was a certified technician for a variety of brands for 10 years and am now a consultant for research scientists (but still do plenty of pc repairs and upgrades) and there is no reason to disconnect the battery for these upgrades. so long as you make sure that the computer is off before you begin, there shouldn't be any risky power going through any parts you would be working in and around. so long as you don't go licking traces, you'll be fine. m.2 drives, ram, and wifi cards can easily and properly be installed without disconnecting the battery.

There was no need to physically REMOVE the battery, but it is prudent to DISCONNECT the battery when swapping out any MB-connected hardware. It just isn't worth the possibility of any current to flow through the system while working on it.

I enjoyed the video; simple, informative and fun. I actually plan to do the same with my older 9560, including an undervolt and cpu/gpu repaste. It would’ve been nice to see you do the same while you were in there. The difference it made to my spectre x360 was surprising.
Also, you’d have had a much easier time by just cloning the drive and writing the iso to the new drive.
Additionally I’d like to quickly counter a point you made around the 1:00 minute mark; the existing SSD is *very* fast, and whilst the incredible 970pro you installed is significantly faster, you wouldn’t notice in normal operation, only in very specific workloads, and synthetic benchmarks.
One nitpick aside it was a dope video, so thanks.

I use up the whole 16GB RAM with just Lightroom and Photoshop open at the same time so expanding to 32GB will prevent it from crashing. For vid, Premiere Pro, having that expanded and faster storage space really gives a boost in loading media and editing.

Does upgrading affect any files or document on the PC or are they on the SSD you just took out

I have the XPS 9550, the 2016 model. Im interested in making all these upgrades because i desperately need them for the programs im running in college. Is it worthwhile to upgrade from the i7 processor to an i8 or i9?

Does upgrading void user warranty with Dell? Also does the new 7590 have the same upgradable options? Thanks!!

Question for you XPS 9570 experts - the aluminum back panel on my 4K screen has some cosmetic damage. I'd like to replace it, and I've found the suitable part online being sold by a number of sellers. Does anyone know how to separate the aluminum backing from the screen without damaging anything? I know it's possible because the backing is available for purchase separately and people do purchase them.

Sarah. Did u experience that latency issue with your XPS? I was thinking buying an XPS15 to produce music but a lot of people are telling me it is the worse choice because of this issue...

Is it better to format a new SSD before installing any windows? Does this hardware scan while booting for first time, do the same thing as formatting the SSD? I've bought one myself and I'm concerned. I Appreciate anyone's reply! Thanks

Hi Sara, I ordered a Dell XPS 15 last week. I was on the fence about it, but your video won me over!
Could you do a video about which mouse you use for Windows? I love the Apple magic mouse (especially for the gesture controls for it in Adobe), but I'm not sure if anything is as great as that for creators specifically. Some suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

I've opened every laptop I've ever owned to do some sort of upgrade, but I'm still *nervous wheezing* every time.
